They even say we are sh*t, but do not go so far as to say they were worse in our games this season

No voice this morning , stinking headache but SO HAPPY!!
Come on Heart , I don't fancy a trip tp Perth.

Crowd numbers sh*t but the atmosphere was fabulous. Just a wall of noise from the Fever zone and environs and the rest of the place got into it.Great night.

Just want to say a HUGE congratulations to the fever zone for their stellar effort last night. Despite the low attendance, and 45 minutes of decidedly average football, that was probably the best nix game I've ever been to.

The fever were in outstanding voice in the second half especially, and those last 15 minutes were so intense! The disbelief after Sydney's two quick goals, then the elation at Ifill's penalty, but not before a hugely nerve-wracking minute as he set it up and waited to take it. It felt just like watching the penalty on November 14 actually, with the stadium virtually silent before erupting into noise.

This is what finals football is all about! If we were all football fans for the sake of watching beautifully fluid passing football, we'd all be in living rooms watching Barcelona. But we're not, because it's not always about technically pleasing football, it's about the passion and the emotion of the game, and that's something that the nix and the fever really know how to deliver!

Thanks again lads, and COME ON YOU PHOENIX!

A few idle remarks after watching the replay: (1) 4 goals in 6 minutes - can't remember anything as dramatic as that in the A League before. Sydney scored their 1st just 25 seconds after the restart.

(2) It's like rolling a dice with Chris Beath. You just never know what he's going to do. Pings Lia for a perfectly legal, non-contact tackle from the side, gives Jamieson a harsh yellow but fails to follow up with a second for a much worse foul, inexplicably fails to give a yellow to Manny for blatantly checking Chiannese when he had got around him near the byline.

Also, how long did it take him to blow for the penalty? It took so long I swear it was actually going through his head, "Hmmm, everyone knows Ifill has been denied two of the most obvious penalties on record this season - if I don't give this one I'll never get out of here alive!". Either that or he is just a terrible ref because it didn't need thinking about.

(3) A goal for Siggy but also an assist I presume, since he headed the cross back for Brown to score.

(4) Yes, he should've scored, but, wow, Greenacre is an incredible glutton for work. He was everywhere, just an absolutely mighty display from the old fella.
Idle yes Stop Out, but all good points. The wait for that whistle seemed forever, Ifill had time to look back at him then the lino, then back again. Was he waiting to see if there was advantage? No. Was he just catching up with the play? Seemed to be running from miles away.
Greenie is a bloody legend, like Siggy. He deserved to score as well.

We aren't privy to the conversations going on between linos and ref as to who saw what before he makes a firm decision, but I admit to thinking exactly this ^^ above top.

Havent read the whole thread, but a couple of thoughts on the game...

cracking, absolutely cracking match

almost glad sydney equalised just so we could go through the euphoria of a winning goal all over again (had previously celebrated both brown and siggy's as if they were the match-winners!)

When the linesman pathetically failed to wave his flag for the penalty, i looked at beath, he was a f*cking mile away, i seriously thought sydney were guna get away with it. When he finally pointed to the spot i was so goddam happy. Knew ifill was guna bury it, just knew it, he looked the most calm man in the stadium.

We sat right behind the goal, and from where we were, yellow fever were absolutely immense. 3 full aisles, top to bottom, jumping, chanting, going f*cken mental, a heaving mass of awesomeness for the whole game, what a performance. Crowd only 10k but it felt like 30.

I bow down to everyone in the fever zone last night, you guys bought this one home for sure.

Next year my season ticket will be back in the zone, 3 seasons out of it are far too many. See you all soon...

I definitely think the line judge was consulted on the penalty, it seemed to take a while for the call, and right after it was made SigmUnd (I think) was applauding that line judge and was mouthing off (er saying something) towards him.    Initially, I thought it could have been costrued as a dive, as Ifill appeared to lose control of the ball beforehands, but ultimatley it was very heavy contact - so a fair call.

Nice one Paulm, it all happens in the Zone!
Last night we had our Friday night "game faces" on.(read, more of us p*ssed than Sundays )
Straight from work for many, end of the working week, another 1/2 hour drinking time before the later 8pm start, two days to recover etc, etc.
Couple that with the do-or-die finals football tension = plenty to chant and yell about!

I think the funniest moment of the night for me, was talking with this muppet on the bus to courtenay place.

He asked me what the score was.

I told him 3-2.

He said something along the lines of "Oh yeah not bad, was kind of hoping they'd score 25 or something though"

I said "um...yeah..that would be pretty awesome I guess..."

Muppet: "Yeah, you know, if they can do it in rugby, I dont see why they can't do it in soccer. Its the same game, just with your feet. Instead you get people diving all over the place instead of scoring"

I just said "They score 25 points sometimes, not 25 tries you muppet"

That got a few laughs from other people on the bus. And the guy shut up.

Watched the replay late when I got home. As you say, a heavy contact, looked like Ifill swerved right in front of his path. It also helped that Ifill maintained two swift touches on the ball in quick succession as he went down. Mastery, clutch player demonstrated, right there.

I just watched the second half again. Brilliant 45 minutes of football.

Having initially thought Paston has done pretty poorly spilling the ball for their second, I noticed that it actually deflected off Lochhead's heel, which is why he ended up parrying it to his right instead of his left.

And just how incredibly bad was Michael Beauchamp last night? No wonder he looked like he was going to cry at the end. He was directly responsible for our last 2 goals. Didn't even bother challenging SigmUnd at the corner and his challenge on Ifill was just laughably clumsy (if I'm being charitable I could say that Ifill appeared to lose control of the ball slightly which may have contributed somewhat to Beauchamp just running straight into him but still).

Typically an AR wont flag a penalty (ARs can't award penalty, but can assist the referee in his decision making), but will give an indication to the ref by his positioning what he thinks by running to the corner flag if he does think it's a foul in the box.

When Ifill was tackled, I noticed Beath, who was behind play looked at his AR, who had began a sprint to the corner flag, it was then Beath awarded the penalty.

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

That'll be me kicked out of the maso.. cough.. refereeing fraternity for exposing the craft secrets  ;)

I've actually found somewhere that has similar guidance written down (as it's usually coached to refs and A.R.s as it isn't in the LoTG or other manuals)

http://www.wikihow.com/Understand-Soccer-Assistant-Referee-Signals

"Watch for the penalty kick signal. This can vary from region to region. Generally, if a foul is called by the referee and it is inside the penalty area the AR will move toward the corner flag. If the AR stays where they are then it indicates the foul was outside the penalty area. The referee can then determine the appropriate restart. Other possible signals for penalty kicks include holding the flag horizontally across the chest or running to the corner flag and hiding their flag behind their back."

Evidently, in the case of last night, the AR's positioning was guidance to the ref that he felt an infringement had occurred, and not just as an indication as to where the foul had occurred

still buzzing from last night,

time moved incredibly slowly before the match

during the game time did some wierd stuff and i killed my throat

after the game time flowed gently along in a kind of cruisey amber way

and now time is dragging until i find out who we are playing and i expect it will almost grind to a halt as next weekend's match gets closer

still utterly stoked by that result and our ability to make a sh*t-load of noise

Fantastic win, feeling a bit worse for wear today (still) but worth it.  Only the crowd size was poor and that the players pretty much went straight into the tunnel. It's most likely the last home game of the season and they don't do a lap round the ground to thank the fans.  Do they care about us at all?

Thats a bit harsh, they started at the halfway line and made their way down the ground applauding the crowd. What do you expect them to do, parade around all the empty seats?

Muppet moment #1 for me was seeing a couple of wags with their kids (ifill's missus was one of em, duno who the other one was) come down to go on the pitch and celebrate with the team, dopey security guy wouldnt let them, said they have to ask his boss. They were not happy, by the time the boss ambled his fat ass down there the players had gone down the tunnel... security ftw
