Of course I read that game. He was referring to playing Lia instead of Smith, which seems to have been a smokescreen for disciplinary issues. I ask again - how tactically did we play differently? My answer: we used the same tactics, it's just that the players weren't up to it at Hindmarsh.

So much of the "RH is negative" stuff recently has been based on the idea that he left Smith out against Adelaide to be "cautious", which seems to have been a totally wrong idea.

Also, we didnt lump in all crosses from useless deep positions as we constantly did against Adelaide.

+1

this was actually a very noticeable difference.

Good point. I kind of doubt RH was telling them to lump in crosses from useless deep positions in Adelaide, which would bolster my argument.

Jeeze Doloras.....do you suck on a lemon everytime before you post?. You seem to see a conspiracy in everthing! Why can't you celebrate a great win like everyone else?

Excellent game, great entertainment. Big crowd, sunny day...what more could you wish for!

Siggy was huge, on attack and defense. Muscat was also fantastic he seemed despirate to finally get a goal. Loved Sanchez's goal and his general play. He was cramping late in the game which slowed him a bit. He brings the best out of Daniel as well.

We did seem to get opened up through the midfield(just like against Adelaide) Need more tracking from Brown especially. Not surprised Greenie got hooked off, probably his quietest game for a while.....we need more pace up front. Pav is coming along nicely.

All in all a great day to be a Nix fan. I had lots of out of holiday makers sitting around me. most were newbees. They are all Nix converts now!

no but, we played much more on the deck in the attacking third which he must have stressed more today you would think. Or perhaps Danny, Dannyiel and eMannyiel had better games...

ON A GRAPEFRUIT, ACTUALLY.

Or perhaps more likely I deliberately don't put smileys on my teasing one-liners to see who thinks I'm dead serious.

I agree with Ricki. It was OK. We had patches of goodness and very goodness interspersed with patches of FFS. Sydney just had more FFS than we did and also liked hitting the woodwork more than us.

Happy with the 3 points and the team's overall effort. Think the crowd was rather poor considering probably half of them were free.

Hopefully next Sunday will be 90 mins of exceedingly goodness.

As I saw it, it was still essentially the same "wide ball crossed in" game. I was a bit frustrated in the first half that no-one could get on the end of one of those crosses. But there was more on the deck in the second half. No goals from crosses in from wide - one from a corner, one penalty, one from a good intercept and one piece of Ifill magic.

just back from game

massive

dodgy moments at the back but hugely made up for with siggy and manny's performances at the attacking end. Couldn't count the amount of times siggy appeared from nowhere maruading through or down the wing, legend

manny, goes without saying, week in week out, our best player imo

sanchez = the no 10 ricki has been looking for forever

fixed

Oh yeah? Explain exactly how we played differently (tactically speaking, rather than individual performances) today than we did against Adelaide. Assume that Smith was left out against ADU for disciplinary reasons as has been rumoured. If it's a psych factor among the team that they just don't do the business away, there's little RH can do about it.

I thought today we attacked deeper to the byline much more often before we pulled it back/crossed/won a corner.  v Adelaide I'd say our crosses were from a lot deeper and more aerial more often.  Pretty hard to get on the end of those more aerial crosses from in front of the defence when their CBs are big guys and we can't match up well - and I think we saw that again several times today.  Also today I think we ran more balls into the box and we played more balls in behind the back four to the edge of the box today.  Just my impression.

Not sure why you suggest it was disciplinary issues re Smith for Adelaide, but you may be right, I just took Ricki's comments at face value - and it did seem to be reflected in our play that day imho.  And in his subs.

Today seemed significantly different to me.  Same formation, but we got further forward, crossed later, kept it on the deck more and kept more attacking players on the field later in the game.   So it still seems to me Ricki IS more conservative away.  A bit less so than in the past maybe, but I'd still say so.

Any case a good win and like you say, we ARE scoring a heap of goals, at least at home.  Just woudl like to see more of that away.

bit worrying conceded 2 goals   again that's 4 goals in last 2 home games. but when you score 9 in that time i guess it doesn't matter. i really think sanchez is the goods, hopefully he can stay uninjured.

Not too concerned about this to be honest.

Pulsating game today. Felt really good to get the win - playing a good brand of football at home.

Can we play a bit more like this away from home a little more?

Perth on Sunday - another must get three points. Big trip across for them.

as a toon fan for 16 years, I can verify that all out attack is entertaining, but it does not win league titles.

but I still find it very enjoyable.

Actually the consistency in which we did, particularly Lochy makes me think it WAS part of his plan, in sofar as "Don't commit too far forward in case of counter attacks" mentality.

I eat humble pie about that....8400 was a very good crowd. Lots of out of towners too. Recent stats show Wellington is high up on list of tourists visiting.Walked part of the way to the stadium with a lovely group of Sydney supporters(elderly) wearing all the Sydney gear.

Maybe we should play more games at 3 pm on a work day

Really enjoyable entertaining day at the RoF today. We brought two first timers to the game and they certainly enjoyed it.Looked like there were quite a few visitors in the zone today with regular Feverites..good to see.
Great the Nix got the win, here's hoping for another on Sunday too.
Loved Sanchez's work, and nice chip over Reddy for the 2nd goal.
Daniel does seem to work well with him and now seems more productive and lively.Well taken penalty..surprised to hear that was the Nix's first penalty for the season.
Cracker goal from Siggie and another pearler from Ifill.
Manny Muscat..pretty good game overall.. almost more luck shooting for his own own goal (!!) after a couple of missed attempts at the other end.He copped that headbutt from behind then wrenched back the headbandage mojo for the Nix again.Legend!

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

Maybe.  It was sloppy body positioning of the defender as he jumped blind, the ball coming from behind him unsighted & caught him on the hand.  The rest of the game he was lazy.  I'd like to see Smith given more game time.
