On the upside perhaps this chance is what Crowther needs and all of a sudden Paston will find himself as #2 again due to circumstances outside his control :P

Not likely, but you shouldn't write off Crowther just yet.  This may work to our advantage since Sydney may be likely to have a few goes at him and if he's the goods we might throw them off.  Plus it will force our defense to work harder knowing they don't have Pasty there to hold the line :)

With the news of Paston I must say I am very worried.

We are going to go back to the old days when the other team scores many goals against us and forces us to make many saves. Only problem is that Crowther is not as good as Moss was at cleaning up the mess he created by diving around like a circus clown.

It was only a matter of time I guess.....I'll do it:

And you've seen Crowther play when?

Paston had no control over the fact that his wife is giving birth?

Can someone please explain the birds and the bees to me again?

Yeah a few people manged to watch the full game online at the time. And people will have seen him training. But I think he will be alright. Obviously its not likely he will be the next Van der Sar, but if he puts in a good performance, then we will be again spoilt for choice.

If I  were Paston's mum I'd be looking forward to a grandson, instead of worrying about my boy's replacement.

The little genius "Marco" will raise a few eyebrows if he gets on. Will be the hottest property in the A-League by end of year!!!!! What TAB odds on him scoring the winner???

Reece Crowther gets his chance this weekend.....Mark Paston is staying home because his wife is due to give birth.

Assistant coach Jonathan Gould is RGK.

jeez!  I hope they don't get him to catch the baby!!!!!

Is he really in shape to keep in an A-league came?

We'll find out soon enough!

No....hopefully we WON'T find out...

He's an old pro, he wouldn't make himself available if he wasn't up to it. He probably still throws himself around a bit when he's coaching (??).  Anyway, 40 isn't all that old for a keeper. However if Ricki ever ends up on the bench I'll start to worry.

I heard good things about crowther when he was at QPR, the only reason he got the flick was that they have an even vetter 18 year old coming through the ranks. At practices he looks good. I noticed he is pretty hatsh on himself if he makes a mistake. To me that said he wants to do and be the best. A good sign and attitude.

Good luck Reece, good to see you get a game. Good luck Mrs Paston I wish you a safe and healthy delivery of the new member of the Paston family. I just hope your hubby doesn't practice by catching dirty nappies afterwards.

Pretty long i'd say considering he's just in the extended squad and wont be on the final teamsheet save an injury or two

Would like to see Marcos get a go, but do not think it will happen, no one deserves to be dropped from the squad.

When the club issued new shirts for sale at the shop, did you go home and cry because the goal keeper shirt wasn't available to buy? I bet it just doesn't feel the same to you wearing the black and yellow stripes with '1' and 'Paston' on the back does it.

What disappoints me is that for someone who professes to know more about GKs than anyone else here, that you wouldn't take the opportunity to enlighten us and say something positive and educate us rather than run down the reserve whom hardly anyone has seen and pretty much hasn't had a run yet.

Seriously dude, you should drop it. Your propaganda/agenda got old a long while ago...

Crowther is a quality keeper. Sit back and watch.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

this is shaping up to be a very interesting game, for a variety of reasons.
First and foremost, a win away would see us climb veeery high on the ladder, given the latest A-league results. Second, after many complained about Paston's performaces, Crowther will get a chance to prove what he's made of, so good luck to him.

I'm sure the Phoenix could have easily signed a replacement keeper from the VPL for a game or two if they wished to do so, and the fact that they haven't is reassurance that the 41 y.o. Scotman will do well.

Last but not least, Marco Rojas travelling with the squad......that could be really interesting if he actually ends up sitting on the bench.

Have you realised you are the only one on these forums saying this? We are talking about organization not defending. Understand the conversation and stop being an ignorant fool.

Royal to answer your question I have seen only 1 game but that is more then most on these forums. Of course all question will be answered and I look forward to seeing Paston command his area in the next game.

Agree with all of this. A win here would be amazing for us. But I'm scared that the team is starting to feel a little over confident because it is Sydney.

I'd love to whip them over there and then come back and whip Adelaide because honestly, I think we are capable of both. Sydney may be a little harder though

wellyphoenixfan - it appears to me you have not even seen Crowther play.

i can tell you I HAVE !!!!! (a number of times) i could tell you about my friend who has a friend who knows a Crowther relative, but i won't bore you with that story.

my point is Crowther is more than capable of stepping up to the job. He is also capable of being a no. 1

but i will save that argument for a rainy day.

To win I think we are going to have to score 2 maybe 3 goals 2moro.  They have a good attack and tight defence so it will be an interesting game.  Crowther looked good in the pre seasons I saw at Porirua so I have faith.

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

I have seen him play once as I said before. Regardless it does not matter. If he plays crap tomorrow (Most likely) I will tell you, if he plays good tomorrow I will not deny it like most of you do when Paston plays well.

you don't have faith in your own team ?

How ironic considering 99% of people on these forums have zero faith in Paston. Lets drop this until after tomorrows game, no more can be said that will help the argument.
