I'm not connecting anything. If you have playered the game you would/should know that regardless if it was a foul or not, good sportsmanship says that you would go over to see that the player was OK. Maybe he is just a prick, I don't know.

I'm not having a go at him, as he seems like a great guy... but could someone who knows more about football than me (I haven't played the game since I was a little kid and don't claim to have a good footballing brain) explain why Greenacre is rated by so many people on here?

To me he is a striker, but hardly ever scores goals, does not set up goals, gets the ball less often in attacking positions than our midfielders (brown), has no pace, is too short and weak to win the ball from corners and crosses... surely next year there is someone better who can replace him?

Am I missing a lot of the good work he does because I see games on TV and not live (I do not live in Wellington)? For example off the ball running, etc.. I really don't get it and seriously would like someone to explain to me why they think he is of A-League quality.

Posting in this thread because it seemed like he did nothing all match... Is he only in the team because our back up (Pav) is the worst player in A-League/NSL history?

There are some valid points there. You obviously know more than you think.

Since the age of about 15 every defender attempts to impose themselves physically, without the need to label it as intentionally dangerous. I thought it was a damn fine tackle, with unfortunate outcomes for Rojas. But that's professional sport.

Lets be clear. You dont have to go and see if anyone is all right. It doesnt make you a bad sportsman if you dont.

There could be several reasons why he didnt. It is ok not to.

Looking at the video, paused 46 secs in, Marco hit the ground really hard, slammed into it, connected with his face completely unprotected. Who knows if the damage happened there or through Mannys brush off (Not clutching at straws, honest )

Stuff are reporting that "Phoenix defender Manny Muscat is free to play against the Mariners after Friday's challenge on Marco Rojas escaped the attentions of the match review committee".

Can someone confirm that this is in fact the case?Turfmoore2012-03-19 08:13:17

It is in the Dom Post, so it must be true. Plus Ricki is ok

"Phoenix defender Manny Muscat is free to play against the Mariners after Friday's challenge on Marco Rojas escaped the attentions of the match review committee.

Former Phoenix star Rojas has been ruled out of the Oly Whites Oceania qualifying tournament for the London Olympics after his jaw was fractured by Muscat's elbow.

He was also concussed and had no recollection of the incident after being taken to hospital.

Greenacre said Muscat had "sent his condolences to Marco".

"It wasn't a pick on Marco kind of thing," Greenacre said.

"That's just the type of character Manny is, he's a really quiet, gentle guy away from the field but once he steps over that line, he really puts his body on the line and he's committed 110 per cent.

"I think it just spices it up a little bit because Marco's a friend of ours and an ex-player at the Phoenix so it's been heightened by that."

An A-League spokesman said there were no reported incidents from the game, although Herbert is expected to be reprimanded for failing to front the post-match press conference.

A coach and a player from both teams are required to talk to media after each game but reporters had waited 50 minutes before learning Herbert had left on the team bus.

The press conference is supposed to be organised by home team officials and a Phoenix spokesman said he had written to the A-League explaining that the Victory had not fetched Herbert from the changing rooms where he was chatting to the Melbourne coaches.

The A-League spokesman said it was unlikely Herbert would be fined but there would "probably be a reprimand that it can't happen again"

If it was Kewells Jaw would he have escaped sanction?

If it was Kewell's Jaw I'd have taken the image and made a t-shirt.

Right.  So the referee who was closer than any of us saw nothing illegal in it, the match review committee have looked at a hundred times and seen nothing in it, even our tame VIctory fan see's it a legal tackle.  Case closed.  Perhaps now we can stop laying in to our own players and try supporting them.

Hope Marco is good for London if we make it.  I love the lad.

Unless Manny had a rearview mirror mounted on his forehead I don't see how that could be judged a deliberate elbow with the intention of causing injury.

However judging by the censorious tut-tutting of several of the Fox commentators this one is being watched and he will definitely go down to protect the image of the game. Meanwhile the Heffernans and Burns's of this world chuck deliberate elbows with merry abandon and get away with it.
I think you might like to think again?

Pasty is up for save of the week again!  Well done.  He also won save of the week for Round 25 game against the Heart.

I wouldn't look at the goals of the week... 2 Tard goals out of 5 choices.

Smith into midfield, Leo/Ward in for Brown and either Sanchez behind Greenacre with Ifill on the wings or Leo/Ward in for Greenacre and Sanchez behind Ifill.

I call that a bit out of line. He's a w**ker at times, but ...

Cahill or Grella have already (as Kruse did on Leo) waived their description as footballers and if it were them I wouldn't be grieving.

I very much doubt the Manny challenge would have escaped the attention of the match review panel. The stuff article is just making it news. The panel will have reviewde all footage and deamd it a fair challenge for the ball. End of matter. But unfortunate out come for MR and his U23 call up.

http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/news-display/Herbert-warned-over-press-dodge/46319

Wellington coach Ricki Herbert will not be sanctioned for his failure to turn up to a post-match press conference last Friday.

Football Federation Australia have confirmed that it will speak to both Wellington Phoenix and Melbourne Victory about Herbert's no show following the Phoenix's 3-0 loss to the Victory at AAMI Park.

"Both clubs will be given an informal warning and will be counselled on press conference requirements, processes and management," a spokesman said.

Journalists were kept waiting for over 50 minutes after the match before it was discovered that Herbert had boarded the team bus and left without fulfilling his mandatory requirement of fronting the press.

It is believed to be the first time a coach has failed to attend a post match press conference in the A-League.
