Miracle needed.  Tardistan maybe 8th on the table, but our record is sh*te against them this season.  Need a big performance from all if we are to get our 3rd place back.

Let's hope the week staying in Tardistan helps.

We have never won in Melbourne! Mini-judas will be wanting to screw us over.  If Archie scores against us again I'm going to spew.

Thoughts?

If we win, entire team should line up in front of Archie and perform a Haka!!

A win would be huge, but we'll need to play much better than in the last few away games. You get the feeling that we may have used up a good chunk of all our luck in the games against Sydney and Heart.

^^^ Not sure, does Piney know?

Also how many of Victory's goals have been penalties?  They seem to get an awful lot of them?

I think the key variable in this equation is how the Victory players react to their season officially being over and their manager publicly stating half of them should be shown the door.

Will they be fired up and ready to prove a point? Or will they simply roll over and die?

The Nix will show up and put in a good solid performance either way.

They have scored 6, 3 each for Kewell & Hernandez

Hopefully Magilton starts looking toward next season, and plays some of their youth players.

A agree, and without getting either overly optimistic or overly complacent, I think there's a chance they might just roll over and die. Morale seemed to be at record lows already, and Magilton's statement will surely only make things worse.

Fingers crossed.

^^ In the same way as GCU in particular and Adelaides season is ??   I dont see them lying down.

I wouldnt underestimate the Tards. We have a poor record there and will be lucky to get a point (as we were on Saturday). Not being pessimistic, more realistic

Generally speaking human nature has a built in survivor kit, so I doubt very much if the players are just going to roll over. I would suggest that they will go out to prove to the coach that he was talking through his hat.
For us to write them off would be a big mistake.

The assumption that you are making, however, is that the Victory players have some character, some personal pride that having been pricked will compel them to lift their performance.

I'm not so sure that's a valid assumption.

Exactly. I'm not saying it's the case for all of the players, but a lot of them seem to have such big egos that when someone says that they're underperforming they're more likely to pack a hissy fit than acknowledge that said person might be right, and lift their game accordingly.

I also think it's different to GCU and Adelaide. GCU seem to have formed a core unit that has grown from the adversity (read:sh*tfight) that they've been through. The team unit seems stronger as a result, in the same way that the whole Terry saga has arguably helped the character of the Nix. Adelaide I suppose aren't much different to the Victory, except for the fact that they haven't been publicly embarrassed by their coach, and don't seem to carry the same egos that many of the tards do.

It seems you were on to something there, he's been released from the last game for Melbourne and will join the rest of the team on Friday's game.

Ah. No.  He was their one decent attacking player on Saturday night so he stays to burn us and then Perth don't have to play him ?

Bugger the good stuff.  Demand he play Friday.

I'm quite looking forward to seeing him play against us. First game he only came on when we were down to 10 men? And then he didn't play at all in game 2? I still believe their team is unbalanced with too many attacking players so it is not that much of an advantage for Melbourne. I don't believe Kewell, Rojas and Hernandez should all be playing.

And I am glad he is putting his hand up for the u-23s. He probably had to request that himself and Victory are not obliged to release him.

Roar are on 43 points and us on 40.  Roar also have a far superior goal difference of about 20.

Yep Magilton's certainly drawn a line in the sand with the public flogging  and I hope it backfires on him. Who knows though ?

Yeah, not sure 'rolling over' is a state of mind to have when they're playing in front of their stabby fans

I would tend to think the only chance of them "rolling over" would be if we nicked a couple of early goals, and then had the good citizens of tardistan turn on them booing them every time the touch the ball.

But seriously, while they have been poor as a team this year at times, they not been that bad overall. They have lost the same number of games as us and have drawn a sh*tload, many of which they have given away a late goal for the draw so they reality is they have not been all that far away from having an ok year.

With the amount of individual talent they do have on offer, if everything clicks they definitely have the ability to tear most teams a new arsehole.

Treat them lightly in any way, we will be in trouble.

Victory could still play part despite loss
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/soccer-football/news/article.cfm?c_id=86&objectid=10791633

"Melbourne Victory became the third team to have their play-off hopes dashed when they lost 1-0 to bitter rivals Sydney FC on Saturday night, but the Jim Magilton-coached Victory could still play a major role in determining the make-up of the top six"

If you lot don't smash us on Friday, (in front of 10k, tops), then you should just fold the Nix, and go and support the 'Canes. We are dead in the water.
