I think it has been indicated that playing for TWs puts you in Rickis sights,as such it would be good to watch those games vs the Nix

3-2 loss.
Zucco scored both goals for Nix. He looked good. Strong, good first touch and he scored off both feet.

I got there a bit late but line-up was:
Paston
Downey, (Some TeamWelly CB), Musa, Tsattalios
Fifi, Lindsay, Smith, Luke someone (another triallist)
Ifill
Zucco
(apparently Fifi came on early for Pav and Ifill started on the right)

1 nil down at halftime - looked a pretty soft goal from a free kick. Left footed from centre right - went low, must've been around the wall and beat Paston at near post (looked like it went under him).

Changes at half time. Ifill off, Smith off.

TW then went 3 nil up. First goal of half split Central Defence (might've been a turnover so disorganised), 2 on 1 - Paston hesitated coming out, and when he did the striker just went around him and slotted it in.

And final goal was long range from right side, Ethan(?), not sure if it was a shot but with wind snuck under bar with Paston almost getting there.

Phoenix goals were other end of the field from me so hard to see what happened but first looked like Zucco out-muscled defender on left then finished accross body. For the second I think he found a bit of space then rifled one from centre right, across body again - keeper got a hand but shot too powerful.

Phoenix dominated possession and chances. Ifill went close with a couple - both tipped over with good keeping. Zucco should've finished a one on one with keeper but delayed then hit keepers legs. And there were a few others straight to keeper or missed crosses.

Zucco also gave away a peno, at 0-3 down, which looked very harsh, but the TW lad smacked it over.

So 90 mins for all the lads that needed it and considering the Phoenix only started with 7 contracted players, soon 6, and only 4 in the second half it was more of a TW squad match. And apparently the Phoenix lads had already trained that day too (before you all go doomsday on it!)

Oh and forgot to say Lindsay looked quality too.
And when Tsattalios was defending the corner I sat in he defended pretty well.
And they used Downey and his pace for quick counters - especially from defensive corners where Paston came and got, then released Downey early.

Not sure you can actually draw that conclusion given that the 4 in front of him tonight are definately not our regular Back 4

Yeah Paston probably didn't do himself any favours, I'll be surprised if he plays this weekend. Don't get me wrong, he did some good things too - one very sharp save to his left and very good coming for corners.

If you're looking for support for him, I doubt our best back four would give up the second goal. The first could well have been the walls fault (my view wasn't great) as they are supposed to shield the near post and he probably got done on the last one, but it was literally inch perfect - I think he might have even got a finger to it but was basically falling back in the goal himself.

Would be Ethan Gilbraith. Tall dude (over 6"2'), blonde with quite big arms? Is an u20 playing with TW and lower hutt/petone?

good on the ball for a tall bugger. Lives opposite one of my mates with Musa and Lucas, schooled us big time in a small kick around hahatpmyhill2012-01-11 22:13:49

Must say I was impressed by TW. They have some good players. They played a very good short passing game which really suited the weather conditions(howling crossfield gale) Their keeper looked great, made some excellent saves. Lucas got a nice goal around Paston and impressed with his footwork. Galbraith moves well for such a gangling guy. He completely skinned Tsattolis in the corner.

Nix looked disorganised which you would expect with so many ringins....they didn't play the conditions...too many hail mary passes and loopy crosses. Ifill was Ifill. Lindsay stood out....he looks composed, passed well with both feet and beat players. Downey was lively at LB....tons of gas and took the right option most times.

Zucco looks like one of those strikers who appears to not being doing much and then bang bang...two excellent well taken goals. He is a solidly built player, strong in the hips(maybe carrying a few too many kgs) he didnt have a high work rate like Greenie does but would probably be better with a season of physical conditioning. You would not complain if he took a under 21 slot at the Nix....could be a good prospect.

cheers for updates lads. Sounds like Lindsay and some of the TW lads really need to be given against A-League level to really figure out their quality

Luke Rowe scored the free kick and missed the peno, heard Calcott revoke his penalty duties post game. Downey is rubbish in case anyone didn't already know, Fifii ( ) had his first game in 4 months, Galbraith made Pasty looked stupid from 40 metres or so.

Zucco looks good, should have had one in the first half though. Dakota Lucas put his hand up again (definately holds the ball too long).

Anyone know who was on the left for the Nix, at centreback next to Musa or the bearded striker who came on for TW? Also wasn't sure who came on for Smith.
You know we belong together...

On the left for the Nix was Luke someone. Apparently trialling

Not sure about the rest.

Was a freakish goal.....Galbraith wellied it from miles out....I thought it was a cross at first coz it initially looked headed to the corner flag(though he was prob shooting) The gale caught it and bent it back and it just droppped in top left. Pasty looked non too pleased about it. The TW guys were pissing themselves.

Sounds obvious but the drop in class is massive once you take out the pro's. I only watched the first half but TW definately lokoed stronger. I quite like the look of LIndsay in Centre Mid though. The left winger trialist for the Nix (Luke someone?) was not up to it.

Still like the look of Dakota Lucas though
