Ifill and Leo up front in first half.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

wow, Leo as a striker or attacking mid with Ifill upfront on his own?

Sanchez was up front as well- sort of tagging in and out with Leo?

Bit of both.

Sanchez also in amongst it.

To be honest shape was a bit hard to tell because Wests were camped in their box.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Fantastic to head along and watch the lads back in action. Points I'd note-

Nix were in total control of the game, Wests weren't able to string anything together, and goal came off a quickly taken free kick. So it's worth keeping in mind that the opposition weren't up to much...

Downey is as quick as anything, but final ball was a bit crap on occasion.
Bran- reminds me a bit of Steven Old, a bit of a meat-axe out there, but did a tidy job. Would be interested in watching him mark better and quicker players, but did a good job. Played well with Dura.
Tsattalios had a really good first half at left back, pretty quiet second (he pressed a lot less). Looked quality in the first half, good overlapping runs and much quicker than Lochy. He was playing pretty far up field in the first, more as a wing back.
Pantelis was absolute quality, a number of good runs and both his goals were very well taken. Visibly a step above most out there. Good option from the corner as well, whipping them in beautifully with his left.
Manny and iffy probably the best out there. Manny doesn't do a thing wrong, and, well, we just know Iffy is class. Iffy scored an absolute ripper from about thirty yards, beat a couple of men, wound up and smashed it from 30 yards into the bottom left, gorgeous.
Sanchez looked tidy enough. He was a bit all over the show, a box-to-box striker if you will... Didn't see enough of him to say yay or nay, but was surprised to see him off for the second half.
Brown played pretty well, a few nice touches, and a hell of a run to beat the offside trap for his second.
Keepers didn't really have anything to do.
None of the others really stood out for me, either as playing well or poorly- good to see Leo you there.

Severe lack of strikers, playing with Daniel up front by himself in the second half is never going to be a good option for the season!

Also, great crowd http://yfrog.com/klm4dcjj . The photo is a bit crap, but clubrooms were also packed, easy a couple of hundred there.

Ahh totally didnt realise this thread existed!!!!!!

Sounds promising from a few aspects. And the fact Pantelis is doing well is a really good sign.

So has Mr Travis returned home?

Great summary, Bigtobz. calm night helped with the turnout, was chilly but.Awesome coming down Adelaide Road to see the huge number of cars both sides and the new lights blazing. Two spanking new artificial pitches side by side, top asset there for Island Bay,and compliments to the club, well organised crew in kitchen and bar meant we were well looked after.
I rate those toasted sandwiches,btw

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

First time at Wakefield Park..great setup.  Agree with assessments above genrally.  Thought Bran loked solid and very comfortable on the ball..ability to cope with pace not tested but knew where support was all the time.  Fitted into passing game well even irf it was a little frustrating at the slowness to move forward first half into what was a back peddaling Wests team.

Tsattlios loked okay but was never really a left back..rarely was he in the Nix half first half.  He stayed left of me on half way and made some good runs.  Not tested as left back aka Lochys role.

Downey had a good first half pace and crossing wise but didnt do much for the part he was on in the second.

Manny in command as usual and Ifill warmed up as the match went on.

Out and out strikers non existent but we are used to that

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

so from this summarry we are still on the look out for one or two real stikers, obviously Greenie fils one spot, but you need at least 3 locked in for the season - bear in mnd I see Ifill as an attacking midfielder as opposed to a striler.

Queenslander 3x a year.

I'm liking the looks of Pantelis. He always runs at players and doesn't always use his left. Also Brian bran doing very well as cb. It might just be that he is playing alongside dura though. Downey looking pacey as. Brownie and Muscat good as usual. Nick the lb has a great first touch.
Not liking Sanchez. His second touch invariably makes him turn into his man. Fill looking rusty too but hassling
He's a bit short though don't ya think?

Good to hear they banged 6 away, but it is no more than should be expected from a professional team playing against a local central league side second or third? in their league. All the same well done boys

Great to see the boys again.Agree with the points above.Pantellis is a real short arse but he looks like he'll add a lot this year.Sweet left foot , I was impressed.Ran Manny very close for my MOTM.Downey is very quick and has a hell of a motor.Up and down that right side all night.I thought Bran was OK; did nothing wrong but was being directed around the park by Dura and Paston.Ifill looks a lot fitter than last year.  I did think Wests were average so all comments need to bear that in mind. However , some of the passing in the first half was excellent.Manny owned the park.

My highlight of the night- overheard a conversation where some very cute blonde was relating being wet at the gym ( I think that's what she was saying). If I'd had a beer  I'd have choked on it.

Wests were fairly average but you have to take into account most of them were kids, i'd say 80% of them won't have been near a cenral league start yet. In saying that, the young lads held their own for 60 minutes and tried to play.

Fuck this stupid game

To give Wests some credit that was half of their Reserve/U19s side playing as well.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

yep  , agree. Several steps below the Phoenix but absolutely the right attitude and did try to play when they could.Goalie made a couple of very nice saves in second half.Quick thinking for their goal , too.

Keeper also got honked three times at his near post...he made a couple of fairly straight forward takes look spectacular though...I wouldn't get carried away.

Distracted by Vince Lia then?  Coz that is also acceptable

he's probably my height mate! :) I know, I'm not the tallest lad on the block.
However both myself and Pantelis prove that you don't have to be tall to be a great footballer. Well perhaps he proves this point a bit more than myself...
