Yip I'm thinking if we did see another Striker Blossom - eg Costa, Ricki would just put Bertos back into thewide mid role. BUT would it really be fair to drop a mid player when they are playing so well? Who would be dropped?

I just think that any striker other than Smeltz has an Impossible job of trying to break into this teamplaywithFire2008-12-04 12:59:58

No, you don't. C'mon. Be serious. You don't.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I agree. It's hard for them. However, they will sooner or later get their chance. If Smeltzy's form/health don't keep till the end of the season, they'll have a chance to get a run and impress Ricky. If Smeltzy's form/health keep till the end of the season (as I frankly hope), then they'll have to wait for the next pre-season. It's hard for Costa/Drapes as they're so young and chances are we are going to get some new strikers for next year.
However, I'm sure that Ricky holds them in high esteem. Or else he would've loaned them out and would not have capped them of the AW's. But sooner or later these youngesters will have to get some proper game time, that's only fair on them.

Covs..well, what can I say? I think he's a great player but I doubt he has great goal scoring abilities. I would use him as a second striker, a feeder who can also score if you pass me the term.

Yeah with the definite arrival of new strikers then it must be hard.

Loaning them? I dont know if we could do this, but would we be able to loan Drapes or Costa to a NZFC side? I mean in terms of them still counting into our youth players - and I guess that the side would have to pay their wages (so Waitakere or Auck). I wouldn't mind seeing them play for Team Wellington - but that just brings up our strong need for a youth team. It should be a top priority if we want this club to blossom.

We also need to look at what is best for the actual players - because regular game time is what they definitely need.

You can't loan players out to NZFC as it would be an international transfer that takes weeks. If we need them back for any reason we would have to wait and that isn't in our best interests

If we had another good striker I would drop Ferrante and put Bertos on the wing in a 4-4-2.

Well we did loan Costa out to a NSW Premier league side in pre-season did we not?

And now that the season is in full swing would we not want him and Draper training with the rest of the squad full time so they can learn off players who are further on in their careers? What would they learn in the NZFC?

On a different note, Australia Network are showing tomorrow's game live at 6pm Hong Kong time for anyone else like me who is in this part of the world (just in case any relevant persons should be reading this).

It appears not many if any.

That Wellington v Waitak was a game played in the last international break and by george are those Waitak guys good, Adelaide would be well advised to rest their best players this Friday if you don't won't to lose your first game in Japan.

What I dont' get is why Dodd has been flown over as cover when he has a one match suspension?

Adelaide weren't great last week, but at home, they are a tougher proposition.

They could have an eye on the Club World Cup, but it's Waitakere FFS, they will smash them.

So, we must be on our game. Considering our horror past against Adelaide, I'd take a point - depending on the situation.

tonight is probably our best chance to beat these guys, they are still recovering from the ACL games and may still be tired. If we play as we did against Melbourne and run them early in the game there could well be some very late goals for us!!!

Hopefully they leave Cristiano on the bench again. Dodd is pretty ineffective up front compared to how he plays on the wings.

Apparently Cassio will be back, and Cristiano will be chomping at the bit, ready to backup his comments in the papers, when he gets on the field.

Will be an interesting match, they are focussing on it as a must-win.

It is a biggie for us also. Cant wait till 10.00pm

I havn't heard but Its too late to send anyone else over to replace them now

I find it funny how our arguably our two most attack minded players could be out- so we send over Dodd ???
Ricki could always play him CDM of course playwithFire2008-12-05 14:59:21

Neither. Dreamed the other night that tonight we'd lose 0-4.

I'm taking it as a good omen - every time I've felt bad about a game, we've won

I've got a bad feeling about the game, but my superstitious side is more optimistic.

Agreed, it usually takes about 5 minutes to figure out who's gonna win and by how much, and how the goals will be scored, and what post-game speeches will be like, etc.

Great call.

Wow I didn't realise you could see the full outcome of a game in the first Five minutes? I usually can just get a feel for the game and get a good look at the tempo of each team. The first 5 minutes of a game usually shows both teams intentions. Might take ten.

But wow 5 minutes and you can see all that? You should teach some of us...
