Has been discussed elsewhere but is apparently this coming Saturday at Newtown 2.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Chocnut - Nick Carle at his finest. Nice.

It'd be nice to have a bit more info on this - if people on this site are still unsure about the plans what hope does the general public have? hmmm. Hopefully it all goes ahead OK.

Pignata said a Phoenix/celebrity side would take part in a special charity match against a Chinese club side from Christchurch this weekend. The Sunday afternoon game, run in conjunction with the Wellington City Council, will kick off at 2pm at Newtown Park. Gold coin donations at the gate will be donated to the earthquake relief efforts.

Herald doesn't actually mention Newtown 2, however I can confirm it is Newtown 1 at 2pm on Sunday, people can come along from 1 pm onwards. There will be more publicity about the whole thing during the week.

60minute game?  now there is a challenge for you feverish -  Are you able to see the red mist in a shortened game.

I made that team on Saturday.  Well, it was the yellow mist actually, but it would have turned red if I'd stayed on.....

Indeed. There was a wager in the stands that you would see red...we saw it coming.

I usually get more fired up as the game goes on. Fine at 60, boiling over by 90..

Varsity!? Red card!? But...why?? *shock*

Could've taken something from the game 'liverpoolfan1' - maybe a leg, forearm? (points...)

On the match:

Seriously good cause, be quality to see some 'commoners' with hopefully a good handful of the actual squad drifting in and out.

Fantastic to see Terry Yao ('volunteer co-ordinator') involved - watch out if he gets a run for the Chinese side...

Can't wait to see Tony Pignata pulling on the boots!

Should be entertaining.

Does anyone have any idea which Phoenix players will play? I kinda want to see what the new players are like(obviously Gao will be on the pitch, you'd think). I suppose not...

A good laugh this afternoon.....our mighty Feverish scored two and ripped his shirt off in celebration to reveal his Retro Ricki and got a yellow card for it.....classic

Tony P got on the scoresheet too (kept his shirt on!), as did Leilei Gao for the Chinese (he played a half for each) and Mickey Ferrante.  Daniel was using his complete bag of tricks to bamboozle the Chinese selection and set up several of the goals.  Not sure on the other scorers as was watching through very blurry eyes and dark shades......BigDunc....you're bad bad man!!!

Very good crowd too, stand was full and plenty standing around pitchside.  Good to catch up with a few of the Fever and can see everyones buzzing about the new season.

Highlight was Smithy ringing Ricki in the dugout during the 2nd half and asking him to swap Greenie to play on the left so he was closer to us and so Smithy could get better photos (and so Greenie could hear our abuse) and Ricki duly obliged.....

Outstanding.....

Agree, a good kick around, a few laughs and a bit of dosh raised for a good cause.
Lets hope we will now get a few more Phoenix supporters. I'm sure quite a few of the Chinese in the crowd may never have been to a football game before.

Chairman Wow scores two, one a stunner with ehad- set up by Daniel ' Personality of the year" cortes- greenie got two, the two press guys were just a tad useless- Chinese team had plenty of chances but squandered them all.

Comedy moment- WUAFC ball boy gets knocked over in front of 1000 people, nonchantly replaces divot to general applause- ah, we train em well at Newtown Park!

2nd Comedy monemt was Pedro the ref baine an*l about goal celebrations and yellow Carding lei lei and Greenie for showing t-shirts after scoring

Lei Lei's said  I luv China, Greenie had a YF shirt!

Yep, top entertainment.
I thought Fred Woodcock looked pretty handy ...

Now, we have to learn that Chinese chant for "c'mon" to encourage Leilei.
I can't remember, was it something like "Tan-yow"?

That's probably wrong though ...

Great bit of fun that match was, daniel consoloing the ball boy who was taken out by the chinese united guy was lovely, Daniel and leilei ripped up the opposition, (the nix defence couldn't handle gao in the second half) and Tony P, you were outstanding!!!! (in a way...)
You know we belong together...

Chinese team were average- probably not gunna win any fans for stating the obvious
but a bit dissapointing. if thats a CHCH 2nd div team, then Wgtn certainly has depth in numbers in its grades- cos i reckon a div 5-6 team would've challenged them, especially their ropey keeper

like i said, telling it like it is won't win fans

Yeah I felt bad for the Chinese keeper, poor guy.

Good day out which I enjoyed, and good to see some of the new nix guys on the pitch, although I made it to the ground just after kick off so had a bit of trouble identifying some of the players. Good to be watching some football in person again too.

Great fun, really enjoyed it. I think we've solved our striking problem, Tony P should just sign himself. Stunning header for the first goal I thought...

Also, I had a couple sitting next to me who weren't too sure as to who was who on the pitch (they thought that Plodder was Lia of all things...) and among other things, thought that the Illustrious Leader was one of the new Phoenix signings and said something along the lines "that looks like money well-spent"...until I explained the situation. Hope this doesn't go to Greenie's head...
