Less than two weeks to go, and ownership issues behind us, I think it is time to focus on the football side of things now. Here's what i will be happy with as a starting lineup:

          Paston

Downey Dura Siggy Lochy

Bertos Muscat Lia Pantelis

      Greeny     Iffy

Bench: Warner, Satellite, Brown, Pavlovic

I hear there is going to be some sort of oval ball game being played at our beloved RoF while this game is on...

My pick for what Ricki will go for, pending the new arrivals.

Not necessarily what I would pick, but that's what Ricki will be thinking along the lines of.

Wish I had work off, going to miss the first game of the season, but think we have a good chance of rolling No fans/kids only fans.

        Paston

Muscat Siggie Durante Lochhead

        Lia
             Sanchez
        Brown

Daniel    Ifill     Pantelis

Bench: Bertos Greenacre Niko/Downey/Pav Warner

Based on Tauranga and Heart game I think this gives us our best current 11 players on the field. Harsh on Greenie and Bertos, but they've a chance to make a good impact from the bench. martinb2011-09-27 09:39:27

Is Sanchez capable of scoring goals from the midfield?

and can he hold up defensively?

im kinda hoping that will Lia and muscat being able to patrol that centre and one of them dropping back to help out defensively that Sanchez may be freed up to be creative ( I did say i was hoping)  and of course into that equation may come the long ball hoofing style of play that was common in recent seasons in which case my team selection may mean nothing

I was thinking how good it would be if both Brown and Sanchez were goal scoring threats through the middle of the
park...

i'd love to see Tim return to his goals coring exploits..problem is with the squad being less than having any great depth can we afford him?....he does go missing in action a lot and then we might get murdered in midfield

Still mulling this one over, and trying to learn how to park the Ferrari (I told her the roof box was a stupid idea....)

If I was more technologically minded, I'd put a humorous, yet appropriate picture up in reply to this, but seeing as I'm not, anyone interested in a trip down memory lane will have to click the link:

Hilarious.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

God that's a depressing line-up.

Roll on the new signings.

Of that side, I would say Durante, Muscat and Ifill would make it into other A-League starting lineups.

Possibles are Paston, Downey?, Siggy, Bertos, maybe Greenacre.

But thats not an ideal situation is it

I reckon. Theres nothing wrong with that side, line ups not too far off that have been the back bone of the 'all but two' unbeaten run at ROF. Replace Downey with Hearfield, and you'd probably find that this exact squad has played before, a few times, and made for some good results.

This sort of hammers home one of my points though.

We havn't exactly strengthened the squad at all, and those results you speak of surely would need improving for us to finish higher in the table.

Not many of our players are getting better over the years, maybe Muscat, Lia, Siggy perhaps, but the majority have peaked I feel

I agree with this..plus...the other sides have in the main improved their squads and brought some better quality players in

Not really, nothing wrong with the home results. Its that annoying away form that gets us, the same away form which gets other teams when they play here.

But yeah, we need to strengthen the squad at some stage. Given whats gone on recently, Im just pleased that we've got the core of the last couple of season. The strengthening will come later on Im sure ...
