How well did O'Sullivan play? I always wondered whether he would be more use to the nix plying on the field rather than coaching.

Certainly not out of his depth.  I know they were talking to the FFA about getting his status changed as currently he counts as a 'foreign' player.  That way he could be used for emergency cover.

Not sure if it was ever done.

sounds like a reasonable idea, especially for the games that clash with AW's  fixtures

I wonder if the Aussie club's would hypocritically whine about using a player outside the salary cap

Who cares if they do - as long as the Nix benefit from it..

Injury cover falls outside the cap anyway.  It's how the Mariners have signed John Aloisi.

Everybody say Loophole.

How's my driving? - Whine here

Yea true, but who do we have who's injured whom O'Sallivan could replace?

I think we're more talking 'if we need him' rather than sign him now.

We've also got 23 players so couldn't register him as a player anyway.

Pics from the TW vs Nix XI game are here if you want them: http://picasaweb.google.com/feverpics

Sorry for not using the gallery but the effort of uploading 40+ pics one by one was too much for me.

Neat photos DS - was an enjoyable game especially as the Brazilians could show their skills without getting hacked to the ground - Felipe was particularly impressive, like he was playing on another level and he linked up well with George. I notice Felipe got annoyed with Brown(?) when he tried a 1 - 2, but the ball didn't come back to him, so there's still a few communication problems. Ferrante was solid in the centre but a couple of attempts on goal were as per usual - high, wide and handsome  (I wonder if he's thought about NOT aiming for the goal, he might have more success?). Paston was good in goal in the first half, but the second half goalie looked very uncomfortable on a couple of occasions (one goal attempt was a repeat of the CCM second goal - just lucky it wasn't Petrovsky on the pitch).

Spoonley. He did the right thing though. Not appeal for some non-existant offside. And they didn't score.

George played alright, but you could see the rest of the Phoenix team getting frustrated with him. Brownlie told him to "stop being so f**king lazy" and Johnson was shaking his head because George couldn't understand any English instructions.

yeah I saw that too. In the first instance, Brownlie had a point cause he was running back and forth like a mad man and George was only caring about attacking (2 goals though!). In regards to Johnson getting frustrated, maybe he should go play in Brasil for a season or two and see how good his Portoguese is after 3/4 months....

I'm a foreigner and I can tell you that trying to understand what someone is telling you on the pitch whilst still trying play your game is one of the hardest things there are. Plus, some of you kiwis (no offence) have a thick as accent - I still can't understand 100% some of my mates..and for Pete's sake I've been here for 3 years!

 - it was interesting to hear the banter between players, not something that can be heard at the RoF. Just hope the team isn't going to split into three - Brazilians / Aussies / Kiwis - due to background and language ....

I don't think that's going to happen. They seem quite good together and everyone loves the brazilians..I mean you don't mess around with Clebo cause he can knock you out cold, Felipe and Daniel are by far the most talented players in the squad..
George has yet to prove his skills, but I've seen him play and I reckon he only needs to be in the right place  at the right time to become a Phoenix idol

Sometimes I think we have unfairly high expectations for Brazilians. We should give them a bit more time. Inter rocks2007-10-26 12:22:04

I agree. Plus, and this doesn't happen in all the A-League Franchises, two out of four of our Brazilians have already stepped up and are playing really well.
George is in between, and as I said I'm sure it's only a matter of time before he explodes.
Clebo needs a bit more confidence, and he certainly needs all the support we can give.

Have you seen the other Brazilians?? Juninho is on crouches every second day, that black guy who plays for Queensland (I think Reinaldo) missed like 5 goals against us that I would have scored with my eyes closed...

I think we gotta thank the Almighty for our Brazilians.
Plus we got Elrich - who isn't very 'Australian' especially given his skills, Aloisi who's a true midfielder, Smeltzy who scores (say what the f**k you want but he can bury the ball!!!), we got the best keeper in the league....

It's an awesome start, and the results will come.
If they will come now or at the beginning of the next season is for nobody to say
