Football in NZ is on the cusp of something grand!

Even though I'm now living in the UK I've been lucky enough this year to go to RWC, League Tests and AWs vs Wales games.
I've felt let down by them all apart from Wrexham (when we drew with Wales).

After watching the cricket yesterday and hearing about that stupid game we call netball (NZ males must be the biggest poofters in the world some times) I've come to the conclusion that of all the major sports that NZ takes an interest in only football has delivered this year:

*The Knights went out with a bang
*The Phoenix have been doing well and better crowds then Rugby plus massive deal with Sony
*The AWs (apart from the central America diversion) have been doing very well
*The Womens world cup
*the U20 and U17 tournaments
*Watakere winning OFC and heading of to Japan next month.

I'd like to think that 07 will go down as the year that NZ woke up to the fact that we are actually pretty good at football, and that its time we stopped worrying about minority sports that only the UK, SA, Aust. and NZ take seriously, remembering that all these countries humped us this year in these sports too!

Hopefully the All Whites will start going forward instead of stagnating or going backwards now.

interesting!

I'm heartened by the fact that two of our more 'sober' posters are seeing the same thing that rose-coloured specs types like me have noticed.

NZ Football is on a roll!!

YES!!!!

"Sober" how very diplomatic of you!

There's a long way to go, my specs aren't as rosy as most.  The standard of footy, the behavior of some supporters and acceptance of the game as more than a fad still need work, but if we continue on the curve we're on at the moment it can only be good.

Island Bay winning the Masters div 1 !
