Had the fortune (or misfortune) to go to an early Kingz game at
WestpacTrust Stadium (around 2001 I think).
One thing that was apparent that night (I noticed this
last Saturday at the Canes game too) is that the wind at the
Stadium is totally random & swirls all over the
show...this had a detrimental effect on the game as an
overall spectacle.
This alongside the fact that touchline is 30 meters from the
crowd removes alot of the 'intimidation factor' smaller niche
grounds provide...

This is Wellington - it's like that all over town!! Pity the sideline is so far from the pitch though - would be better if they'd built a football stadium and forgotten about the cricket.
Swirling winds may encourage the teams to play a possession game
along the ground and detract from long ball tactics. A
blessing I say.
