Perhaps not as exciting as what's turned into the D Day Landing thread but as well as the NBR and the Dom Post, another publication landed on my desk today, featuring the Phoenix as its front page lead.

For some, it may be 'Soft News,' rather than Hard but I'll share it anyway ... this was the four - nil win.   There's also a nice photo of the players with their fans, who're not  the only group the Nix have hosted in this way.   Groups like this dont ask for much, or get much recognition, so I say ...

Stand up for the Phoenix!

Wellington Down syndrome Assocation - March 2011 Newsletter

WELCOME NOTE

"We've had a busy few months since our last Newsletter. One of the highlights being the Phoenix Football game at the Westpac Stadium.  We were lucky enough to have been invited by the Wellington Phoenix Football Club to attend their second to last home game for the year. What a treat it was.  We were given our very own room at the south end of the field on the 3rd floor along with reserved seating directly in front of this room. In addition, the Phoenix also supplied us all wth what must have been some of Wellington's best pizzas along with soft drinks to help wash it down. Before the game got underway we were visited by some of the Phoenix team members for an autograph and photo session. All those who attend the game enjoyed it immensely. WDSA would like to thank the Phoenix football club  for this truly memorable opportunity."

This is one of many reasons why I am proud that it's my club.

I think it's great they allowed that mental defect teenage midget with really bad acne to hang round with the team for the last few months.

Cronus, thanks for posting this. If you have any dealings with the people behind the newsletter, steer them to this thread.

People living with Downs Syndrome, and their families, deserve all the help and support the Nix - and YF - can provide.

Wrong thread for comments like that. Imagine if you were the parent of a Downs kid and you came on here expecting the same support our club gave them?

What a great read.

With all the other threads about Marco finally pissing off , Nipples and his man crush on Terry etc , just lovely  to see this about The Phoenix. 2 years ago my little boy had his birthday party at Westpac. We were just expecting the room and a bit of food but they treated him like  a king  ; players not in the match day  squad appeared for autographs ( including Pasty , Lia , Mulligan and Daniel)   So , like the above post , a major reason why we're both huge fans.
Great stuff Phoenix
