Off season recrutiment/season predictions

Normo's coming home

I realise that squads are not yet finalised and the season is still a way off.  But which club has impressed you, which club looks like it will be in trouble and who is going to make the top 4?

Also, which coach will get the sack during the season and why.

Yours please

I predict Miron will become the first coach to be sacked before losing (or playing) a game... as, whilst heavily under the influence of a cocktail of 5 bottles of Ice Break and 8 bottles of Red Bull, he'll respond to a question from a member of the Glitz Coast media with a one sentence answer.

The ensuing interview therefore is published on Page Five of the GC Bulletin and Mr Dollars banishes him to the lower reaches of SE Qld coaching obscurity and appoints Warwick Capper as the new Head Coach!

Perth to finish last again.

Queensland have made some interesting signings, and they were pretty good last year. Be interesting to see how they go.

A lot of people in Melbourne don't like Ernie merrick. He could go

He will if they repeat last season's effort.

Newcastle to go from champions to last place... their manager (I forget his name) to be sacked. El**ch to fail miserably again, Adelaide will be strong... Adelaide vs the nix grand final

Haha outrageous predictions there quite possibly

Nix, QLD, Sydney and Adelaide to be the top 4 I think, strongest looking sides IMO.

Sydney and Adelaide's recruitment has been impressive.

CCM and Perth look like they will struggle.

Newcastle a bit hit or miss - they look a bit light weight if Patafta and Song start.

i'm gonna go for perth to be last, and Lawrie mccinna(sp) to be sacked first, when everyone sees swapping El**ch and kawsnik was the biggest managerial mistake ever and on the pitch performance demonstrates this, with CCM far below the top 4

adelaide and sydney will be up in top 4, nix hopefully. melbourne probably to round out the top 4

McKinna wont be sacked.

Merrick maybe. Kosmia maybe too because it is Sydney after all.

sydney have recruited well - their accountant must have been fairly creative

be interesting to see how the pineapple shovers go with their o'seas signings

Perth to struggle

managers to go - it's a lottery but sydney don't seem to know the word loyalty so as someone above has hinted kosmina better do ok up until december

not sure if i agree that Van Egmond is in danger, surely he must have earnt a bit of lee way after last season's efforts

van egmond should be safe, kossy better make the top 4

would say kosima to be sacked but he has a nice looking squad, the nix, adelaide and qeensland will make the top four and sydney will just edge ahead of melbourne for fourth spot

You know we belong together...

Perth to finish last, all their signings have been mediocre at best. Although i was impressed with how they turned things around at the end of last season with their current coach.

Harnwell to start in the backs and then move forward when they realise Dadi is a DUD!

Nix second behind Sydney.

The keeper they recruited looked decent, and the Argie Bargy they got seems to be the goods.

Eugene Dadi, however... is.... horrible

Perth are always predicted to be utterly dire, but they seem to go on small runs and are always compeitive.

sydney seem to have signed some decent players, i guess it will be how well kosi can harness them into a team.

Ernie Merrick will be gone if he doesn't lift his game. He should be anyway, if he doesn't get Melbourne into the top 4 this season he may as well sign up for the dole as soon as the last game of the season is over.

He deserves it for wasting the quality midfielders he had last season by playing long balls over their head all the f**king time. No doubt Fabiano won't even get on the pitch because Merrick has some strange fetish for that donkey Allsopp. Muscat can bugger off too.

Sydney have probably been one of the most impressive recruitment wise, and obviously we have done quite well. You know, apart from letting Melbourne get Michael Thwaite :) heh.

GVE is a pretty good coach, has a stupid chairman to deal with, and has always had competitive teams even after losing key players in previous seasons. Song and Patafta could rip up

Agreed, especially with (as much as I hate to admit it) a decent striker, in sackwhacker, up front. I certainly wouldn't write off the Jets - they'll be hoping North doesn't find a contract overseas, mind.

nix will be top four but no better. but 09/10 will be when they really takeoff, they have the quality but it will take a while to click. Kosmina wil be the first to go because he has such a short fuse and with bridge aloisi and colosimo big things will be expected and i cant see the owner being patient.

They could in terms of ability, but they are both stuck in 10 year old  body's. a Dodd or Sigmund stuck on them and getting a bit physical you wont hear a thing from them

GVE being sacked wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. Newcastle will really struggle this season - so Egmond could be cast as a scapegoat by a Constantine wanting to denounce responsibility.

Sydney and Wellington will make the playoffs, as well as two of Adelaide, Queensland and Melbourne.

lol yeah that sounds in the realms of possibility tbh, i can see Constantine competely screwing up newcastl,e culminating in joel griffiths leaving, which in turn means adam will leave

just saw this on the a league website and it gave me a laugh, according to the latest A league poll: Sydeny, Melbourne and Adelaide have all recruited better than the nix and Central Coast's recruitment is rated the same as Wellingtons.  http://www.a-league.com.au/Default.aspx whatta Joke

Every clubs fans have to believe they have the best squad, otherwise you are going to have a pretty despondent season.

Good call.

Botafogo - Rio de Janeiro and Wellington Phoenix, my two teams til death do us part.

Personally I think we have recruited exceptionally well. Some may say that we are a bit short on another striker, and missing a right back.

On the striker front, I think Kwasnik is going to be a great foil sitting behind Smeltz. He's hard working and has good pace. And if there is injuries we still have cover in Covs and Costa.

Right back does seem to be a bit of a problem but as has been stated many times specialist right backs are difficult to find.

What for me is really in our favour though is the fact we haven't filled our roster fully. So in case of players not performing as well as hoped, we have a large scope for extra recruitment duriing the season. We still have 3 spots available, and 2 of them could be overseas players if needed as we only have Daniel and Gao as imports. Also the marquee contract has not been used, nor (to my knowledge - someone correct me if I'm wrong?) have we used our U-23 marquee option. So we are in a very strong position compared to other clubs who have little scope for change.

Is Gao an NZ'er? I'm not having a shot or anything, I dont actually know, but I assumed he was an import.

The rest of your post makes perfect sense though. Time for a Marquee right back?? We could steal Neill from West Ham. Seriously though, you're right, we do have options there and its probably a bit early to panic.
