Aside from goalkeeper surely CB is the one position on the field where experience really counts and a player can get away with being a little older and slower.

Can't see a problem with the length of that contract myself.

Patrick Zwaanswijk? He's 37 and one of the leagues top defenders.

Not sure Nelsen is the happiest example here, he hardly played last season and is onto his third club this year already. Will be interesting to see what this next season holds for him.

It will be but in the mean time he still appears to be still considered good/fit/able enough to be part of premier league club.

Who knows how long he can keep it up or how much gametime he'll get from this point on but its impressive enough that he'll be there for at least the next year.

Not saying I disagree, but JD's comment about pace of decline of some players struck a chord with me having seen a couple of CBs recently go exactly through that. But I guess it's very much an individual, and it's not something that can easily be predicted when they're still in good physical shape and good form.

Agree, I don't rate him but I accept I am the minority. I think he lacks pace and he is limited to CB because his skill set on the ball is poor (classic clear it out defender really) However with no import sports left, no young Kiwis or Aussie good enough, it's a good signing especially when you take into account the rest of the leagues players he is up against as strikers, and fellow defenders. In contrast to my thoughts against him, I do admire his tenacity and that he is effective with what he has got to work with.

Pretty sweet signing

A good move that was expected. Strengthens the team where it needed strengthening, plus gives another Kiwi player a chance to show his worth in the A-league. A win-win situation really.

Exactly what we have come to expect from our club- bringing kiwis back home. Adds depth and competition for our CBs and also his best is still to come!

Fantastic signing

My only problem is that's it's another All White who will be lost to the Nix during the WC Qualifiers.

Other than that, i thinks it's a fantastic signing for the team. If we can be the most miserly team from a defensive position, thn we can make even more from whatever we get going forward.

Sweet!

Will be interesting to see how our backline lines up this season...

3-4-3 back on the cards you reckon? That's one way to avoid signing a RB!

Interesting to see the article dated 10 July. Was this kept in the dark for almost a week?

I'm pretty happy with that. He was awesome against China, not quite so good in the recent games but he hadn't had any recent football which can be tough so I'm pretty confident he will end up as a very good value signing. Only drawback is he is a CB and might not see a lot of gametime.

Brilliant signing. Wonder if he can slot in at RB?

Not necessarily, the squads for those games won't be more than 18 players. Boxall, at best, is the 5th CB off the rank, and don't think there'd be much point to taking 5 CBs in those games. It would get tricky if the likes of Nelsen/Reid/Smith started picking up 'injuries', but hopefully everyone's learned their lesson by now.

And this is significant in what way?

BTW I am very disappointed that there is NOWT in the way of angst.  This forum has gone to the dogs.

Great. Decent signing. Liking the ever increasing numbers of Kiwis at the Phoenix.

Personally would rather play Boxall or Lia at RB than play 3-4-3. Doesn't look so bad on paper but never seems to work out all that well in game.

We don't really have the correct wings to play it either, I don't think Lochy has the speed nor the fitness. Not sure how well I'd trust Leo or Brockie in one of those positions either.

Good signing ricki, a vast improvement on our past reserve centre back and in a position where we were very lucky we were not tested more by injuries and suspensions last year

Auckland will rise once more

agree on both counts =- pleased to see him in the squad

3-4-3 reminds me way too much of the days of Old (the player not the marker of time)

though if we had a player skilfull enough to mark that slippery little bugger I'd be well pleased

Why is it a brilliant signing if you have him lined up to play a position he has never played in professionally?  If we need a right back sign an f___ing right back!

Personally I'm glad to see another kiwi at the club and I think we've done the right thing in signing him.  Just don't try and shoe horn him into a spot out of position.

Hard News needs to stop hanging around Danny Nay.  Kind of over Greenacre's tireless work/4 goals a season.  Surely, Totori would be cheap as peanuts?  As long as he "pulls the trigger" often.  I'll be fine.  Skillz.  Gordon Watson knows his shit.  Just need a marquee.  Sweet.

Scott Basalaj ineligible to play for #wgtnphoenix Griffin McMaster signed as injury cover for Glen Moss

Let's drop Paston though. He's been shaky the last few games.

Simon Hampton @simonhampton9

Basalaj ineligible as international transfers cannot be registered outside of the transfers windows.

So I guess that means all the FSE kids at TW can't be called up as injury cover.

What a balls up. So typical of Moss to injure himself without even having featured this season, and also makes a slight mockery of the school of excellence if Basalaj cant play due to a technicality.

Im also guessing no Spoonley as ACFC dont want to lose him for an extended period?

Spoonley is an international transfer also. Until the window opens in January, its Aussie based injury replacements. None of the FSE kids can get called up. The Jets game that is affected by the AWs call ups is outside the Jan-Feb transfer window, so someone has some work to do to fix this.

It almost makes you think they didn't look at the rules around it. This is horrendous.

When does the ASB Premiership finish? Maybe we can get the FSE kids registered at an Aussie club before the window closes in the middle of Feb.

March 29. If you figure that Team Wellington are going to figure in the play offs, then it would be an international transfer back to NZ or tell Calcott to suck it up.
