Anyone else checked out the official site lately??

As the link to the questionaire didn't work I visited it just now. I clicked on the latest poll and got error messages. I checked out the wallpapers too, not too bad, good way to grab the club emblem!! I also tried the clubs screensaver which had potential but there's friggen jellyfish and omebas all over the place. DOH. Sorry but this site has NOT improved since last August. I am really disappointed with this. I was hoping for something much better by now. The Commuinity section hasn't been changed since july last year - not a mention of the XMAs present drop offs by the nix and other sportspersons. The shopping pages offers three items only. The fixtures and results page has up to date tables and results but instead of listing goalscorers, you have "Leading Attempts".

Your views?? I am so thankful for this site. My verdict on the club site = SUCKS

i must say the site does suck very badly and i would think that a lot of the public think this is the official site because the official one sucks so bad.

yeh I haven't visited the official site for ages because its been crap all the way through. Although the format is provided by the FFA, I don't think it is totally run by them though. Look at some of the other A League sites and the quality varies heaps. I think the Phoenix are meant to have the biggest input.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

i have to own up and say i applied for the job but was told i didn't have the required skills. You choose - The official Phoenix site or http://www.qpr.co.nz (As an example only, not as a replacement)

The official A League site itself is worst than the club sites. Agree that the FFA needs to sort it.

To be fair to the Nix and other A League teams, the clubs themselves should be allowed to do their own sites, their own way, just like picking kit manufacturers. To this end I do sympathise with all the A League clubs and you are right the Official A League site also sucks!

I completely agree on all the points you made there LG. I think the reason it's like as it is is because it is a very young league and once it has become more established, say in 10 years, clubs will have more independence. I hope.

It's quite common for the FFA sites to throw a spaz around gametime. I guess they get overloaded or something? Nah, that can't be it - the FFA run sites are so poor that no-one needs to bother with them.

To be fair, there's a similar problem with generic site formats and Premium TV with the lower division clubs in England so it's not just a FFA issue. Premium TV have improved greatly over the last three years or so, but it is disheartening to see all club sites look the same.

Another thing about the site- it still has player profiles for cleberson and george in the team section.

Hmm - just because all the sites have to be the same doesn't mean they have to be so crap, for example, MLSNet looks much better than the A-League site (that said, I'm not sure what sort of live game info MLSNet has - but it can't be worse than the A-League, and you can stream MLS from the net anyway)

edit - obviously I'm stating this is mostly the A-League's fault, not a fault of the nix. That said, a lot of the content is outdated and they're probably not doing the best they can with the layout.

Check out Melbourne Victory - the page just seems a bit tidier, and everything is much more up to date - using the community example mentioned, Victory's latest article is 15/01/08, and before that, 19/12/07 - Wellington's is 30/7.aussienixfan2008-01-19 12:41:40

LG's site is much better, apart from all the QPR stuff on it. Maybe if it had Everton stuff on there...

The site needs a massive rehaul, especially for those who have yet to learn the true internet presence for the Phoenix is yellowfever.co.nz.

Oddly enough robb the layout could be done for any club. And yes, I did have the grass background first! hehehe.

Seriously, the official one looks like a government document rather than a football website. parts have not been updated since july last year.

I claim rights to the grass background, having created one for www.summerleague.co.nz  for whom I do the site.... where a certain Frankie Mac used to play before going overseas.... now I know where YF got the idea. (Although I use an over-contrasted green pitch for mine).

You jest right? Good on ya LG for creating a site that brings a passion of yours to the world but http://www.qpr.co.nz/ over the 'nix site? As modern way of bringing information to your fans?- c'mon.

The 'nix site ain't perfect but it does the job (even if the info is a bit outdated)

CMS based sites always try to jam a lot of headline information into a small amount of screen real estate to varying degress of success - I'd score the 'nix site a 7 given the boundaries that it is no doubt working within.

The official A League sites pretty much suck in general Cosimo. It's fan sites setup like this YF one that look so much better. Maybe there's a lesson in that ? The A League officials, don't alwys know best!

LG - couldn't agree more re: the YF site.  A little bit of work on the gallery and it'd be spot on. I think the boys have done a great job.

Regarding the official a-league team sites I really don't think they suck that much - are they great? No. Are they acceptable? I think so, not perfect and there's room for improvement but they do a job.  I think that sites like YF are always going to appeal to the fans mainly because of the content (which sucks on the official sites in fan terms), luckily the design here works well and they've done a good job.

Im not a complete idiot, some parts are missing!

We do, every day.

Heck, they're probably so glad YF took off like it did that they find us thanking them a bonus!

The official one is crap. I taught myself via a few books from the library, and came up with this one for my cricket club...

http://www.lpwcc.co.nz/

And i do that in my spare time, not as part of a fulltime job as someone in the Marketing dept would have in their job specs...

Well done Dougie, looks very good. The YF team have fortunately given us all a place to air our views and the info provided is hot off the press in comparrison to the A League and the official Nix sites.
