Older fans??
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

At the ROF cast an eye out for older people. I mean those aged seventy plus. At most you'll see a handful. There are a few reasons why they are not there in larger numbers. One is that they may not have anyone to attend the match with. If you know anyone older who has no match companion think about doing a good deed.

This isn't going to go the same way as 'Hug a Ginga' went is it?

Hope not. More thoughts. My father was eighty two when he went to his last Phoenix match. He asked the question about where do all of the people his age get to.  As he said "we're not all dead".
Since then I've looked about and the older fans just "ain't" there...
Execpt for my mother. I think she must now be our oldest (near) regular.

They are very much a generation (if they are long term NZers) that have lived Rugby.  Are there more of them at Lions games ?

We need to start playing like they did in the old days.
Maybe pay some old time music when we score

I saw her at the game on Friday. She still looks quite spritley. Next week it should be your turn to sit with her. It's not just a job for daughters DairyFlat.  My son sat with me for 45 minutes until the corporate  box beckoned.

Both parents, in their 70s, are season ticket holders. Father was a rugby head but enjoys the football and both love the atmosphere.

Football supporting - a great outing for the whole family - three generations in our case.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Reminds me. I'd have to say that there is plenty of respect shown to my mother. Some people, and YOUNG people at that, really look out for her.

At the Newcastle game she was struggling with the heat. At half time my sister and others, took her into the shade of the concourse,  got her a wet towel to keep round her neck. Guy behind us, mid-twenties, asked what was up. I told him.. and he went  and got a bottle of water to keep her towel damp for the second half.

Sean gave me a lift up to the Uni on Wednesday. I hope that was some sort of customer service and not just doing an "old fella" a favour....

I am not surprised, it probably just gets to 20 in summer.
Should have asked him--who hung the monkey?

Is there any way we could get them to put the match on in black and white?

shame there isn't a game around Fathers day, could have been a good marketing spin for the Nix.

I don't want to lip your young fellow, or whatever you young kids are calling it these days.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked

Concession is still there if you bought a season pass every year. My mum has come to every game (well might have missed one or two), and still gets concession price for her season pass.

Hell no! We'd look like Newcastle then (United not Jets). I'm not sure I could handle that.

Its a shame they didn't continue with concession prices past season 1.  There are alot senior fans who didn't buy season 1 memberships and now have to pay full price.  Last year the semi finals had concessions and I know senior citizens who came because it was cheaper than during the season.

There is a concession price for Seniors for season tickets (same price as students).

There isn't a Senior's concession price however for single match tickets - which seems a bit dumb and should be sorted.

P.S. Just checked GCU and Sydney ticketing sites (didn't check any others) - they both offer concession prices to Seniors for single match tickets.

Come on Nix - raise your game - not looking after our elders and getting bettered by GCU and Sydney - not good.

I'm with the generational thing... go to a Lions/AB's game and there's thousands in their 50's, 60's, and 70's... Hurricanes not so as they're some mickey mouse johnny-come-lately outfit that nobody really cares about SurgeQld2010-08-17 19:44:01

There should be a "Grab a Granny" that permits a Granny in at a concession price so long as they accompany a child. Twice the attendance and a cheap babysitter for the parents!

Hey I can get Senior rates for meals at Dennys. Come on the Nix match that.
Permalink Permalink
over 15 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
The Nix should charge senior citizens $10 a game. At the end of the season add up the number of $10 tickets sold and divide that by the number of home games played that season. This will be a very handy calculator in working out the average number of senior citizens attending each home match. You could also do it by only charging $5 a match and make the neccessary calculation adjustments to come up with your final number. [Apologies to Viz].

At the Boca juniors game there were two "senior citizens" sitting behind Dairyflat and me. They were obviously new to football as they asked me why the game was longer than 80 minutes. The look on their faces when the YF boys and girls took their shirts off was priceless. Hope they come back.
