Sunday News reported Steven Old is on his way out? Is it true?

Heard from a pretty reliable source that it's true

I pretty much cried when i read it! I'm not sure I understand how you develop young talent if you give them all the flick

He has had two years at two different clubs and still hasn't really stepped up. I reckon that's quite a long time to develop someone

John Mathison the reporter is anti-soccer and that Sunday News is full of speculative misinformation. He's the same guy that says that NZOC wasn't going to veto the U23 to China. He's in his own world. He stirs up even the best of the reliable sources himself with his twist and turns. Sunday News is looking for the quick sell of any rumour.

Tony P said the article is way of the mark. Old is staying put for a wee while longer.

I'm sure he is waiting by his phone for your apology call.

So far all he said in the article has happened. If we get Porter and Mulligan, he will be 100% right

I think it's good that the Nix have helped him get a place at another club, shows he's still part of the long-term plans if he can develop.

Well, I'd like to wish the boy all the best. Yeah, we all know that he wasn't up to it in the A league but maybe this is what he needs to get back on track again.

Good luck, Steven.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I think it's smart finding him that club and getting him games.
If we get a defender injured and out for a month or so we can loan him back in - the club knows him - he knows the system here and he'll be coming back with more games under his belt and more experienced.

Agree with comments about the way the club has handled this, it keeps a lifeline open to a player who may well step up in the future.

I imagine he packed into his bags a few tips from the boss on areas in the game that he could work on, seems an amicable parting for now

Wonder if they'll do something similar for Spoonley? To that end is there an argument here for the Phoenix to sign up a feeder club agreement with an Australian Premier Stateside? Do Canberra compete in the NSWPL? Could tie in nicely with the Youth set up if it happens. Be a good way of getting around the "no reserve side" problem.

About two hours longer.

I'm happy that we've let Old go but made sure he is at a club.  I'm looking forward to seeing Hearfield play.

Wish Old all the best. He copped a lot of flack, some of it deserved, some of it going beyond mere criticism of his game. Struck up a random conversation with a woman outside the stadium once who ended up being his Mum. She asked me if I was one of those people on the internet being mean to her son. Kinda hit home then that he was a people too...

But, was the right time for him to go, and good that he left under amicable terms etc...

Really looking to see how this young fulla Hearfield slots into our midfield as well.

Straight on to bench to come on as a:
*Replacement for Bertos
or
*Replacement for Daniel
or
*Extra attacking option with a defender taken off
