We've heard a lot about the Phoenix support this
year. Because I've got too much time on my hands and
also love a good stat, I decided to make some comparisons with
Europe and see just how well supported the Phoenix are.
Looking at highest league attendences and highest average
attendences, we come nowhere near any top flight clubs in England
or Germany. However, we have a higher crowd (18,345)
than three French clubs (Nice, Monaco and Auxerre) and a higher
average than five clubs after ten home games of their
season.
In Serie A, we have a higher average than Empoli,
Atalanta and Livorno. When you drop down to the Cocal Cola
Championship, our highest beats nine clubs and our average is
better than four based on 13 home games so far. In
League 1 only Leeds, Forest and Swansea (just) have better
averages. What that means is that we are officially better
supported than several clubs who have been in or around the
Premiership in recent years such as Barnsley, Oldham, Swindon,
Luton, Millwall etc.
And remember that Wimbledon survived in the premiership on
average crowds of around 11,000 for many years.
Defintely something to be proud of and let's make sure we back
it up next year.

All good until you brought the "MK Dons" into it....
Point taken. The thing to remember is that their average
included home games against the likes of Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea,
Arsenal, Spurs etc - all with big travelling support. Pretty
much any team in the prem would take at least 1,000 away
fans. We get four old men and a couple of dogs from
Sydney. Or in the case of Perth, one strange geezer with a
big flag.
