Online highlights?

Now that the big bad Premier Media Group have intervened and taken all the A-League highlights off of Youtube, is there actually anywhere online where we can see the highlights?

Very annoying not being able to view the Phoenix goals online as I send links to my dad back home so he can see the goals etc. And I like to watch them the day after the game too and can't always catch them on TV.

I found some excellent highlights on skysports.co.nz. They do all the English ones and some a-league. Not sure how quickly they get put up there however. Couldn't find last nights game there.

Oh, are you watching from overseas then, apologies.

I have heard of people changing their IP address so you can watch overseas video. Here is one way I found to watch US.
I haven't tried it tho.

Wow, exposure to the league has just dropped. Well done A League and whoever just copyrighted all the videos

Thats a big bag of dicks. Why the hell should past tense sports highlights need copyright anyway?

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Not happy with this.

I was trying to show my mate highlights from our finals campaign last season and couldn't find it.

Not sure where I'll be to see those ever again. =(

Waits for the a league to offer a highlights package to people who live overseas.

Exactly Sanday. Its one thing to block them if they are offering a comprehensive service with all those same highlights available to all including those of us outside Australia..but hello!!

As CboZ says, A-League exposure worldwide surely drops.
By restricting videos on one of the most globally accessible sites in existence it seems to be a classic "cutting-off-nose-to-spite-face" action.Well done to all concerned.
Love to hear their reasons why for this.

A league suck. Most major live sports in aus are free to air. A league still isn't till 2014 I think.

No place for highlights=fail, but the broadcasters will be whining.

GREAT.

www.the-afc.tv has highlights clips, presume they might be geoblocked in NZ as well though.

Agree it is piss poor on the part of the league to restrict their own coverage.

P.S. Also the official A-League site has goals highlights under multi-media on the home page.

What an idiotic move. It's like the A-League don't WANT any exposure. Ever heard of word of mouth? How about social media? f**king ridiculous.

Does any other football league in the world do this?

Good luck find anything Premier League on Youtube.

Still a completely ridiculous decision especially as they aren't doing f*ck all else. It's not as though they're trying to bump up the audience on their own website highlight section or anything. So incredibly lame.

Surely I can't be the only one who thinks that its not unreasonable for a company who has paid millions of dollars for a product to ask that they are the one's who have the right to decide where it's placed?

I don't think it is unreasonable. They absolutely have the right to do this, and who knows, they may have been pushed by the rights holder (Fox).

My only issue with it is that there is a great chance it is actually counter productive. Robb mentions not understanding social media and the benefits that can come from it. Old highlights don't have much value to rights holders, but can be great for promoting the game and the league when talented amateurs who have the time and the love to put something together are allowed, or even encouraged. The A-league (among many other sports organisation) are reluctant to embrace it at this stage.

Instead of embracing the social networking phenomena and using it to their advantage, they have gone down the "shut them down and control them"path.

Perhaps its about maneuverings to corral and position the football product that is the A League, prior to re-negotiating broadcast rights in the near future.
Maybe its just the exercising of legal commercial rights, and makes commercial sense.
That's very frustrating for those of us who have come to rely on the free access to clips we have enjoyed and shared up until now.
I would certainly welcome a stronger and financially viable A League.God knows, most of the clubs are crying out for it.

Yet shutting down the access without providing an equally user friendly and accessible alternative, risks turning off fans and alienating customers, which makes no commercial sense at all.

What a useless site: A-League highlights not available in Australia!? Yet Australia are part of AFC...

Contrast the A-League stance with that of NZ cricket...just saw a great piece in the Test lunch break on NV Interactive who are developing a  new site for NZCricket. They are able to provide highlights for users for every player.. or every team..whatever the customer wants... in a cross-platform site blending media footage and social networking. Magic. check it out, FFA decision makers!

Also, how does this decision go with the 'Fan Made' campaign that the FFA have been supposedly running?

Yeah but they are not really providing any alternative are they?

I now can't post videos on Facebook of Phoenix for people back home to watch (and some people do watch them). They can't watch the 'official' highlights because they are not available in the UK and while there is a highlights show in the UK, it's highly unlikely that anyone will watch it if I say 'oh make sure you watch the A-League highlights at 10am on Wednesday morning on Sky Sports 4'...much more likely that they see a video on Facebook and watch that.

As aitkenmike says - counter-productive.
