Only complaint about the crowd yesterday

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

I thought the crowd was excellent yesterday, but I do have 1 complaint - when we missed the penalty, we went very quiet for 10 minutes.   That should have been the time we took it to the next level.  At the next game, if something goes wrong (conceed goal, miss penalty), let's step up the noise to make sure the team know we are still behind them.  It is easy to chant "I'm Phoenix till I die" but you have to prove it as well.

Apart from that, to everyone who got involved.

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite

Good Call Frankie Mac - a consistent and positive crowd makes all the difference!

Closing in on the last 15 minutes, the boys produced some champagne football with no deserved outcome, this lifted the crowd to new heights which, in turn, inspired the boys to that magic last few passages of play which saw us almost grab all three points. The significance of the crowd not only on our players, but, as an intimidatory force to the opposition, should never be underestimated.

Too right Frankie Mac, we're finding out feet and voice but did an amazing job of bringing the boys back into the game......and all the media and players are acknowledging that today as well.

Was definitely a quiet period there but now you've brought it to everyones attention.....may it never be silent again......

Great crowd, great voice (not today though), great result and a great start.....MIGHTY PHOENIX!!!

our little yellow stadium is shaping to be a horror for visitors, with lads like you behind us, we're on to a winner.  Big ups all around.
perhaps the imaginative ones amongst us could get together and formulate a chant along the lines of "that's alright, that's ok, we're gunna win it anyway"...for when there's a mishap.

Blimey, Bloc 5 would've come straight back at them.  Yep, time to start singing, 'time to get INto it...clap, clap, clap, clap', overlapping chorus.
Then again, the pub I was in was still talking about the Warriors.

you're spot on. But I think that's where yellow fever gotta be steppin in to rark up the crowd. I was quite pleased with the support from us. and you can just tell that most people there are anxious to sing and chant but cos it's not really typical at new zealand sports events, they tend to sit back.

as the game wore on tho, you could see rest of the crowd following suit with the yellow fever (especially for the easy phoenix chants) and raising their hands in the air. I think it'll take a bita time to develop for the whole crowd to be in full swing, but definitly feel yellow fever gotsta be leading the way in the situation you bring up frankie.

If I could bring up one more complaint tho?

The chant that went "same old aussies, they're still cheaters" or something to that effect was quite catchy. but I don't see how we can really sing that when our skipper is a flippin aussie!

FYI - Ross was officially adopted by the Wellington City Council, thus making him an honourary Kiwi for his time with the 'nix.

People were starting chants during that period, but no one was joining in.

well its not NZ versus oz each week. why can't we just sing and support the phoenix, barrage the victory but leave the national ties alone

the singing was great! however at some points it seemed the top half of 22 were chanting and singing different things then the bottom half.It would great to see everyone standing up a chanting in unison!

I won't. and settle down dude, I wasn't even angry about this, just reminds me of budget as chanting that the old rival high schools came up with. but we are all represented by the crowd. and when something goes awry then we ALL get labelled and are responsible for it. so excuse me for saying something about it.

but enough  of that political bs. its just a stupid chant

gee didn't think i'd generate such debate here haha and I promise this is the last I'll say about this k!

I promise you the crew i was with were not so crazy about that chant either. So i can guarantee that at least 5 people didn't like it! And typically if there's one (or 5!) then there's someone else somewhere else who thinks in kind.

and just to clear up for the new commers to this mini debate(!), I just thought the chant was silly cos we got aussies in our side. and of course our skipper is aussie. adopted kiwi or not, I'm sure he doesn't feel like a kiwi(?). I just thought about the whole race thing after. I realise its a harmless chant but we got aussies in our team!!!

But on a personal level, I recall another 'harmless' chant that those charming st pats silverstream boys would chant at sports excahnge, "show us your passports" directed at the pacific island boys of the opposite school. being a pacific islander at st pats silverstream, did not sit well with me...

k thanks for listening ya'll!

haha yeah that was funny! hey how come the yellow fever are where they are? would they better serve the rest of the stadium if they were more central?

and being a liverpool fan, I'd love to see us sing (da da da styles) the tune to ring of fire (if we are going to dub the stadium 'the rign of fire')

nuh the corners fantastic (i think anywho) specially when those guys got the goals down our end in the second half, you've got most the vocal fans there celebrating with ya!

I reckon we are in the best spot we could possibly be. Being next to the players tunnel is gold.

The Melbourne lads weren't too happy about the lack of acknowledgement from their team by the way.

yea that's true! was just thinking for purposes of leading the crowd and stuff. so when yellow fever grow do they consume more aisles and stuff? shucks, it'd be awesome if they grew so large as to take up the whole end of the ground ala the kop.

Don't bring Liverpool into this, they're sh*te.

As for the "same old aussies..." chant, its brilliant. Probly the best chant of the day. Many people i have spoken to who didn't go to the pre-season games have even commented on it being a highlight. Its gold and may it continue

I am in favour of the 'Same old Aussies' chant. It wellington versus 7 australian teams, the aussies in our team will realise they are playing for our team so they have to get over it. I am sure they couldn't give a f&&k

As for seating, being behind a goal I reckon will lift our lads. What more inspiration could you need than scoring a goal right in front of all your supporters.

The team yesterday were loving it

Race ?  Australians are not a race they are a nationality... that's a pretty fundamental and huge difference.

Here, here... completely different.

Someone starts making Monkey noises at a game I'll give them a slap, someone starts chanting a Dingo ate your baby and I'm singing my lungs out... Baiter2007-08-27 14:08:58

 Oh well.
Better make that two Frankie.  I am a Kiwi, lived in Aussie for a decade but back now.  The one most obvious change when you get back here is Kiwi's sports "fans" going on about how they want to beat the Aussies and (especially in Rugby) booing an Aussie kick or whatever.  It's crap.

Looking from both sides it just makes us look like little brothers, unable to cope with big brother.  I hate this in us!  Let's grow up.  We don't have to look up to Australia .. just be ourselves and proud of it.

And anyway, this is not NZ vs Australia.  We're in the A-League, A for Australiasia.  They are all professional clubs, not country teams.

We want to win this competition.  That's not the same thing as beating Aussies.

i ask this of you Smith, what do the australian teams think of us? are we just another club in the competition or the kiwi team?
