I went to the open day today. I t was a good experience and a chance to meet current and former heroes.

But two things stood glaring out of place - which were in fact missing completely.

1] There should have been a kiosk there for the Yellow Fever to recruit new members and make them aware of this website and the involvement with the club.

2] There should have been a Merchandise shop open for fans to buy jerseys, tee shirts, hats, flags banners, coffee mugs etc as per most professional clubs.

These two items missing were I believe an opportunity left going begging. Now is the time to rally the troops before the season kicks off.

The players and staff present were a very BIG credit to the club. Their attitudes, friendliness and willingness to have a chat with fans young and old, left me with the impression that things are very much looking up.

I hope to attend as many games as my shift work allows. This club deserves us to get behind it. You'll see me wearing my Hoops, no glory hunting fan here. NZ born and Bred but a Hoop for life!

Welcome to the YF site Lonegunman. The points that you make are very valid ones.  Those two things have been a worry to me, as all professional football clubs provide this kind of service to their fans and it brings in revenue.  I'm not sure how much of this is being controlled by the Aussie A-League authorities rather than the club themselves.  Great first posting.

I don't believe the Phoenix have any merchandise to sell at the moment either, all strips, t-shirts, polos etc are manufactured by Reebok, earliest date for strips is early Sept.
I think the other stuff (towels, mugs, key rings, pins etc) is organised by the A-League so it may be a while until the manufacturer gets some Phoenix stuff off the production line

Thanks Kiwi hatter (Good luck this season, furs WILL score for your team). I went to the open day to grab a collection of autographs for myself and my nephew and everyone came to the party. I wanted to buy some items and was very disappointed that neither party had come to the party.

Can you tell me where I might get such items as coffee mugs, jersies etc. There has to be a place somewhere. And where can you see the home and away kits? What i have seen is a majority black kit - too much like the all blacks and predecessors, the kings & the knights. Verticle black & gold Stripes would have been nice but I reckon the 1986/87 Watford kit would have bee perfect and their away kit of red would too have been good.

Phoenix dont have any merchandise.

YF didnt ask if we could crash their big day by setting up our own kiosk.
Feel free to head to Champs sports for a t-shirt though.

Cheers for the note Phil

So far the only YF merchandise is the Retro Ricki T-Shirt - available from Champs sports in the Left Bank of Cuba St.

It may be a wee while until there's a Cove like catalogue of supporter gear (scarves, caps, polos, t-shirts) but seeing YF is still fairly new - I'm sure that'll come in time

the players were all freely available to talk to. We did an interview with Mossy (stupidly near little kids who were screaming in the background).
He said if this weeks match is in Chch, and if Da Selecta can't make it, then he will sit in goal with a laptop and do our online game updates.

Rest assured guys there will be a great range of merchandise available in due course.

As explained before  the issue that the club has had is the short turn around time form the announcement of the franchise happening. As far as merchandise goes to give you an idea of the normal turn around of a line that we carry in RYOS is the Adidas All Blacks range.

This gear is  viewed and ordered by retailers  generally 6-8 months before it arrives instore..this is a fairly normal length  of time to allow for manufacture and shipping, the same applies to the super 14 gear.
I suspect that this is the same with the manufacture of the Phoenix range they willl be doing well to get it in the short space of time that they will.

As far as revenue goes yeah it probably does seem a shame that there isnt anything available at open days etc to purchase, I think you will find that the club will have its hands tied with official licences therefore not allowing them to sell or produce other stuff outside the a league official agreements.. so it will be a matter of just waiting..Im sure it will be worth it

Thanks lonegunmen, yes hoping that we'll bounce back to the Championship but all of Blackwell's signing seem to be in their thirties! The Hatters can claim the title of Dad's Army!  Not too impressive form in pre season, and injuries picked up too!  Nothing wrong with the merchandise from their club shop though! Brought a stack back from the UK when I was over there on holiday.

I do find the merchandise question a real pain.  there are fans just waiting to spend their hard earned dosh to support their club and there's none available til September!  Imagine telling Millwall fans that!!!! I would have preferred yellow and black verticle stripes too, but Reebok's templates can't cope with that it would seem!

I can't believe the A League mechandising? Does the word "Rip-Off" sound familiar?

Hows this for an example?

Caps should be $20, Coffee mugs $8, posters (Individual A3 & Team A3) $5, Playing Tops $80.00 (Strong currency is ours) with Numbers $2.50 each and Lettering $2.00 per letter, Scarves $20, Flags $10 etc etc

Get the jist? Fair pricing too. Keep things cheapish and a lot of people will buy the stuff. Keep it at the current type A League prices and few will buy anything. Who wants a belt buckle FFS We're not Cowboys. But we would like to show or loyalty to our club!

maybe I should have gone into marketing?? LOL

Interesting to see that the official belt buckles vary in price - with the Bling one naturally being the most expensive at A$407. It doesn't even include a belt! Do they actually sell any of these oddities?

Time for the A-League to ditch Reebok I say!  I wonder who the marketing "genius" was that thought about the belt buckles! For god sake we're not in Texas!!!  I wonder if any fans were actually asked what they would like to see in the way of merchandise????? Somehow doesn't seem likely does it?

It wont be a "reebok genius"  that brought in the belt buckles and the like they deal in apparell!!! You will find that this type of club merchandise is made and sold  to a particular market i.e australian team supporters  it tends to appeal to the greek, croatians, and italian supporters

Im pretty sure you wont see to many phoenix belt buckles

I'm not so sure Ryos4phoenix!  After all Welly does have a Greek and Italian community. Heaven forbid buckles!  The jewellery was pretty gaudy when I last looked too!!!! And affordability was nowhere in sight! lonegunmen has a valid point about affordable merchandise.  Big thumbs up to YF for the Retro Ricki T shirts.  Done better than the club has, and good price too!
