It seems we have many Toronto FC supporters on these boards.
I think that agreements that we had gave teams first option on our
players and we received a fee and a bit of a name drop. With
Charlton, the Knights got their logo on the sleeve, great
bonus!!
...'Big Ben' Burgess on loan from Blackburn and he went on to
be golden boot (I think) in the NSL that season (wonder
what became of him?)
He plays for Blackpool
The knights had a deal with charlton from the EPL and from memory
had the chartlon logo on there sleeve.
i rememeber watching young knights and they said that players
who are young and talented and need experience would come over here
to the knights on loan..
Is there any chance for any big club and the 'Nix to do the
same deal?
it would be extremly useful
Kingz - Chelsea
Knights - Charlton
Northern Spirit - Rangers
Sum total of advantages for the team in this part of the world ? A big fat nothing.

But if we got some of the talent comning out of the uk... but it
would be import spots i guess
The problem is the kids don't want to come here. Why would
they come here on loan when they can go to an English League 1 or
League 2 side and still be seen by scouts and managers from other
English sides ?
Come out here and the chances are you'll be forgotten.

true..football here needs to be put on the map.. everyone knows the
ABS but noone knows the AWS
the chances of getting one with a EPL team are slim to none, not
that it will help (for reasons previously mentioned
...also, why would a team like Reading (just an example) want to fly half way around the world, play a game against a team very few of their fans would know about, and then fly back, when its just a short jump across to the european mainland where there are an abundance of top clubs with more $$$$$, friendlier tv times etc etc...
i'd rather see us try to get a strategic alliance with Toronto or another MLS club or even better for us, one with a respectable Asian club...it would be of more benifit IMO and also more realistic of getting 'help' (money, tv rights etc) from it

We should talk to Port Vale - get Robbie to play up front!!
Why would we want a deal with a big EPL club if they got to take
our best players? That would just hurt the club wouldn't it?
It seems we have many Toronto FC supporters on these boards.
The fans do seem to have some connection going on between
Toronto FC and the Phoenix.
But what are the advantages really? They wouldn't want
to lend us one of their top players and we wouldn't lend them
one of ours when both regular seasons are in full swing.
Maybe there are some opportunities in between seasons. Or if
we are in a postion where the likes of Costa isn't getting game
time for us. He could be lent to Toronto to gain extra experience.
Different training styles, different atmosphere. He may only get a
5 -10 min run every second game in Toronto, but I am sure even that
would be a great experience and good publicity for the
Phoenix.
Likewise we could take on board a couple of their youngsters
with the look to giving them 5 -10min runs where appropriate. Or
the just experience the training and different styles.
It would be great exposure for the individual players. It
would make them stand out even before they get on the field. Then
it is up to them to play their hearts out.
I would stay away from the big sister club options of the
Chelsea etc. We wouldn't get anything out of it.

Stupid idea. What exacty were the advantages that the Knights received? 0.
Yeah - Charlton weren't so bad (nothing promised nothing
delivered), but do you remember the Chelsea debacle with the Kingz
- we were going to get all these Chelsea reseve players on loan
weren't we? pffft.
The only time I remember this kinda deal benefitting a club in
this part of the world was when Northern Spirit got that kid 'Big
Ben' Burgess on loan from Blackburn and he went on to
be golden boot (I think) in the NSL that season (wonder
what became of him?)
The Kingz did get something out of the Chelsea deal. Two young
players got to go and train in England with young Chelsea
lads for a couple of weeks.
The only possible benefits from the knights deal was that players
might have seen the knights as a feeder club and been more likely
to sign with knights and it got them in the news for a day.
But yes a big fat waste of time basically, better off focussing on
the local market and not begging to the EPL.
He plays for Blackpool
I think we should stay away from Big named clubs for the
obious reason that, if a couple of our youngsters, aka, Costa,
Spoonley and other up comers, were invited in on training sessions
and were thought to be half decent, they would end up recruiting
them.
Theres no benefits in it for us in the long term, Good players
move on, Its the cycle of football. Not untill the A-League can be
recognized as a solid cometetion and NZ internatinoal football gets
their sh*t together (players, but thats not our fault we have no
quality) will people start to look at NZ seriously, and thats IF we
do any good in the AL.
get in touch with PAOK in greece they need money and they'll have
players who will PAY to play for us as they are too scared of their
fans hahahahahahahahaha
