To me it simply looked like all these strikes on goal were more or
less over eager snap shots where in one case Ferrante trying to
knock the netting into The Fever Zone.
I find the players look tooo hurried or rushed when they
get into scoring positions in the Penalty Box,trying to be "The
Money Man"...ie Logan Swan-Warriors v Parramatta (excuse the League
analogy)
I think it's a case of over zealousness & no cool heads
where required.
Unfortunately,it is only the trained eye which can see The
Phoenix aren't The Kingz/ Knights but the average punter in the
street only believes what he sees on the league table/results

The Phoenix are far better than the Kingz/Knights the results
will come and the fans/supporters with "the trained eye" can see
that, just hope the results come sooner rather than later

I agree, there were alot of chances in the game that were blown
because they rushed it.
Daniel had one where he broke into the box and fired straight
away without taking his time to look at all his options, becoz if
he did he could ave easily ave passed it across goal to an open
Smeltz.

Playing one striker in a home match wasn't a clever idea. Smeltz is playing ok but is currently short of a strike partner.

Screw the result. Phoenix looked damn good and I was proud to
support them. They deserved to win from their first half. Phoenix
obviously flagged by the end of the game, but Newcastle were lucky
to win from that random deflection.

Damn right. The first two games Phoenix took a while to get into the game; this time they were into it from the go but getting tired by the 60th minute. Still, it was a great game despite the result. The results will come.

Well we looked GREAT in the 1st half BUT we kept trying to walk the ball into the goal we wouldn't shoot, we pitter patterd around for half and hour making a small decision. AND then in the second half we did shoot we had quite a few shots but none of the stuck. Almost every single one went over the top. Their was one shot i remember quite vividly where their goaly was down and the goal was open and whoever the player was punished the ball and it went straight over the top.

our defence was sweet - hardly any long balls, composed, solid

I like tautologies because I like them.

yep, had the chances, apart from a great Mossy double save in the
first half, and their free kick, we were all over them, defence
very composed
it'll come!!!

Yep, now Ricki has that sorted he can work his way up the field to the strikers!!
How good is Lochhead eh? Has been great so far. Christie looked quite comfortable too and O'Dor was good in his normal position. Dodd is solid but he's a bit firey for me. Looks like he's having an aneurysm most of the time.

After watching every Knights game there ever was.. and all the
Phoenix games to date..... The Phoenix are no knights. We played
beautiful footy at times and a pleasure to watch. We dominated.
Unlike the Knights, where on the rare occassion we did win it was
through counter-attack

I was really impressed with our defence today aswell. It wasn't the shambles that was last friday (shivers to himself while thinking of what happened at right back in that first half...brrrr).

Dont worry too much.. I am a 'average punter on the street" and I can see that the 'nix are different to the kingz/knights.
sad as it may be, it helps that they aren't from AKL. Massive anti akl feeling in nz. Not to mention you always go the feeling akl didnt give a monkeys toss about the kingz.
Wellington will support them, and seeing that, football fans around the country are more likley to support them too.

Ferrante.
I almost cried. But yes, overall we looked a lot better for the entire game than the previous two, and a lot better than our opposition. Such a shame that the finishing let us down - seems like something different every week is letting us down.

Haha .... all good people. Amazing to see comments comparing the
'Nix to the Knights/Kingz when it was the Jets that did a classic
smash and grab ala the Knightz!
What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?

I've seen parts of two Knights matches and none of the Kingz, so I
have no basis to compare :P All that matters to me is that us
Wellingtonians have a team and I'm gonna do my best to support it,
and will be there win or loss (but hopefully mostly the wins!).
Now hopefully enough average punters will be wise enough to see that we're NOT Auckland's teams - we're an expansion franchise, not a relocation. These early results are not necessarily indicitive of our final form.

No.
Dont screw the result...
and DESERVING to win isnt good enough in thie league...
Results are why we are here, we want to contest for the title,
i dont want to be too harsh as its only our 3rd game but if we dont
finish off chances against the jets at home we will have no chance
to call our selves a mid table team.
All the best to our boys, hopfullt they step it up against
sydney and take the three points back home to the capital with
them.

i couldnt believe some of those shots....was a bit dissapointed
with Dodds (?) headed attempt, he did bloody well to get there, and
it looked like it had a bit of force behind it, but dang that went
flying....as for Ferrantes shot...

Results are not why I am here. It goes without saying that wins would be great. Of course. But we didn't win, and may not win in future. I'm not going to get cut up about things over which I have virtually no control. I take consolation from the general quality of football I saw and, despite the loss, I loved the game.

The unfortunate thing with this club is they need both results and
attractive football to be played.
Because of failures past, to your average joe blow that doesn't follow too closely, if they lose, they get referred to as typical kingz/knights. Last night they lost but they played good solid football. Your average joe blow wouldn't know that and hence we see the odd "Knights in disguise" post.
Now if they win and win ugly, your average joe blow turns up to watch and says "This football game is rubbish/boring" so in essence, you can't win.
Now I know that all this sounds negative but to a team that needs supporters, they have to get the entire model right. Because this backwards little country of ours is a rugby nation, the product has to be attractive and get results for it to compete. Its why the Warriors are on a high right now because they have been winning and playing well. Its all over talk back radio about how bloody boring rugby is and the usual "Yeah the All Blacks won but it was tough to watch"
I want to see good football, and I am from this team. To get the average joe blow onside, unfortunately we need results as well.
