Packed Stadium?

my friends, f**k the tv coverage this annoys me, I hope we arent all NZ about this PC bullsh*t at games. I'm taking drums and horns etc...

It's nothing to with PC.  The plastic horns suck and drown out the noise of any real crowd.  It took the Knights to 12 months realise that in order to keep 50 kids amused they ostracised people who would otherwise have paid full price.

I'm all for drums, and if you have skill with a trumpet bring it down, but just a single note plastic horn sounds bloody awful.

I'm taking my voice and if I have any voice left at the end of a game I consider I haven't done my best.

But really, the only real way to get a packed stadium in the early years of a club  is to not only get results but also play good football, and market the games well (unlike Sydney) and try to get positive media coverage.

All these things need to be covered to get really brilliant crowds like Melbourne last year.

I totally agree, but on the other hand if we play average football, but entertaining football i think we can draw in the crowds...as long as our performance is up to par.

Listen guys if you want to pull the crowds in you'll have to appeal to the 'lets go to the game before heading down Courtney Place' crowd.

These people arent necessarily diehard football fans but generic sports fans (Rugby, Cricket etc).  These people usually have a fair wad of disposal $$ in their back pocket too so ticket prices are largely irrelevent (remember people will pay huge dollars to go & see dross like the Red Hot Chillie Peppers etc).

Singing songs, clackers & horns and all that stuff wont appeal to this crowd - you have to produce a product that will make them come back next week & that means goals so buy some Strikers......................

At the end of the day theres so many crowds you have to appeal to, and if we could fish in all of them then that would be fantastic...but, you cant make everyone happy...

Hopfully we establish a solid fan base in the first season and hopfully build on it in the next few seasons, i mean, rome wasnt built in one day...

i would prefer 500 die hard fans than 5000 bandwagon fans, the 500 will out chant 5000 anyday. Although i do believe there are people out there who are slaves to rugby and dont give footy a chance and if we can convert them into the beautiful game those 5000 bandwagons could turn die hard.

I would say around 8000 for the first game, then an avergae of around 6000 for the season would be good.
But I don't live in New Zealand so wouldn't be a good judge on that.
Good luck getting a good crowd I will support your team in every game unless they are playing Sydney of course. :)

Good grief Uncle Steve, Rome took 70 years to build.
Wellington has a decent chance because the Cake Tin is so close.
North Harbour is a slog for most Aucklanders, except me, who lives around the corner.

That's just because they're Italians and they spent most of the first 30 years at extended dinners. And playing football.

out of the knights 21home games in the a-league i watched 18.willing you on to a win.the horns did nothing but drown out your chants distroying the atomsphere.a drum to chant to yes .leave the horns at the rugby league where they belong .lot more up and go at this forum than the old knights so i will go out on a limb. game one 15 to 18 thou season avg 8 to 11.remember ban the horns so your chants can be heard and people watching on tv will want to come and join in.

flares create an amazing atmosphere, make a fkn loud noise when they're set off and in nz that would be awsome

I Believe WGTN will get in behind the phoenix, but one thing about the stadium concerns me, even when there are 15000 in there it still looks empty because of the bright YELLOW seats....

Another way to get more people to the ground in WGTN would be cut live coverage for the region on sky then if you want to see game you are forced to go to ground - it works well in Aussie i believe..

Anyway thats me thoughts for the day, looking forward to hearing the signings as they are announced

I dont think cutting off live coverage will solve our problems, i think youll just get disgruntled fans writing death threats to the tv agency!

...and cost the club a minimum of $3000 in fines from the League.

You'll need to start saving.

The whole point of being a footie fan is that you support your team through thick and thin, not just coming along when things are rosy. The glory hunters might help to fill a stadium but they rarely add to the atmosphere.

Theres no doubt that  the first gme will have an impact, and with the signings already, i think we can expect a 10-15k crowd a game.

Well the YF forums are past 800 members now. I'd say 700 of those are Phoenix Fans (and 100 mostly other A-League team supporters from Australia). So that bodes well for a decent size Hard-Core of around 200-300 peeps I would say.

We really need to sort out our pre-match meeting place, and perhaps a preseason gig or two to get the ball rolling.

Some more press for YF would be good too  . . .

I think that the timing of the games will be important..... with the potential for the weather to turn to custard late afternoon kickoffs (after all other football has finished) would suit the fan profile. Also for the first couple of seasons things like group concessions etc could be worked out for tickets with local clubs where if they sell a certain number of tickets then they get a small fee to go towards fund raising or something like that

I agree, i think what we would need is a preseason gig somewhere to test our the power of YF, any one got any suggestions???

Some interesting comments here. Spoken like true football supporters. I managed to get to Highbury last year and the atmosphere blew my lights out. It sounds great on telly but you have to be at one of those games to really get a feel for it. As said before, the crowd entertain themselves. No 80's rock classics to keep you amused for the 15 seconds while play has stopped.

I can't wait!

I think a key for this club is the support from ethnic communities here, there are a huge number of football mad communities that live in welly and if they get on board i think that the phoenix could pull crowds of 12-18,000.

yea mate european fans are better, i hope we can make a stand like them.

im keen for a gig too, itl prove who the real psychos are...jokes. It would be good perhaps a preseason game or a random gathering in civic square to arrange chants and practise

And yet the A-League itself is succeeding by getting rid of the ethnic ties.

How about a get together by the fans. We can have a game ourselves and then go on for a few bevvies. Just need to be sorting out where is the Fans prefered bar. The courtney arms is a great venue and they really support football.

Well the vote on the other string was for the Thistle, we could arrange a meet-up there to discuss which area to buy tickets etc. It would also be good to get a 5 a side or Sunday League side fans team formed. Mabey one for the youngsters and an over 35's team, anybody interested?

i dont mean all the italians support one team and all the greeks support another, I mean collectively support the phoenix. Because in NZ most of the ethnic communities are the footy fans.

this aside check this out....

I hope to see this at the stadium.....I wonder what would happen????
