LOL, In regards to Siggies. "making space 2" just doubled his bid against himself. it wont put any interrested busniesses off bidding for it. I thought it might have been for the CHCH fund rasing but it isn't

I had an early big, but can't match $500. It's a shame because I can't afford anything close to what these jerseys are going for. So many in regards to #eqnz. Anyone know where Winston Reid's auction is?

I just went for those cool Paston boots. Nix logo an all. No doubt I wont win but I do have a figure I am prepared to go to. Wife is going to kill me but...in the name of a good cause and a good player.

Pity its the AW shirt, Mrs Iffy has been trying for months to get hold of a Phoenix keeper's shirt. Would be willing to pay accordingly...

If I had all that memorabilia, I would find it very hard to part with it. Especially world cup jerseys.

Hands off Pasty WC jersey please (oh, and please don't tell the wife I'm bidding on it. She wasn't impressed that I came home with a $3k road bike last week)

Its no longer a problem.

That's a great contribution from Dan. Interesting though, I think there are a) some players who are big on memorabilia b) those that aren't and c) players that aren't but collect it anyway in case one day they decide it is valuable to them. That may or may not be the case for Vettori but either way, collecting it has turned out to be massively beneficial for the people of Christchurch. Awesome

Somebody from NZ Cricket was saying on the radio yesterday that Vettori is very big on memorabilia, the history of the game, statistics etc, and decided to do this completely unprompted by anybody.

Huge gesture to put up his entire collection of gear up for auction.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

That makes it all the more impressive then. All the famous athletes etc doing this are outstanding, 'the kiwi way' and all that...

Is it also the kiwi way to not give things away for free (the punters I mean)? For example, would the guy paying $20k for an AB's jersey have given $19,850 away to the Chch fund and bought an unsigned one or do we always want to see something for our money? I make generous donations to many causes but always feel a bit better if I get something back for it, ie a piece of memorabilia. Is that heartless?

Its no longer a problem.

A good question Toffeeman. I gave $20 to the red cross, and felt good about it, but then I stumped up $80 for the nix/'canes hoops event tonight without thinking- so maybe that is a psyche thing, you can get more if people feel they're getting something back directly.

Now that is a very question on whether he'd have donated the $19K.

I don't know if it's necessarily heartless, I think it's human nature, for most people, to want your contribution to be recognised in some way and to have been seen to have done something. If it wasn't, things like selling wristbands for charities wouldn't be so popular.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Yeah good point Toffeeman. The way I see it, there are types of people that would invest in something like the rugby jersey and there are others that simply wouldn't for whatever reason. There are people out there with money for that type of thing and the fact it's for charity takes the edge off letting go of that amount of money.

You dont pay heaps for autographed boots to play in them, you put them in a cabinet to protect them. Lonegunmen2011-03-03 18:30:48

Says who?

1. Ultimately its money to a good cause, so im not 'wasting money' as its going into the pockets of people who need it.
2. How many people get to say they play in a pair of AWs boots?
3. I dont care.
4. Its like destiny man, Ive been looking for these forever in US 10.5 (i have the FG version already), and here they are

I understand your rationale but they are autographed boots. A collectors item. You sure are correct - it is for a very worthy cause.

Eh, theres probably hundreds of people in wellington with common items signed by Pasty. Something exclusively player issue i would treasure but yeah. AW match worn shirt with Fifa badge, or official training gear that cant be bought anywhere... etc

Id still keep them forever anyway, whether the sig's still on em or not. Il always know that theyre Paston's boots

Thats the pre season shirt from the inaugural season. I have Tim Browns one.

I also have Richard Johnsons Nix shirt from the 08/09 season. Not parting with it though.

I don't neccessarily think it is wrong, but I bet the person spending 20k on the signed All Blacks shirt would be thinking that it would be possible to sell it for that amount in a few years when the team has won the world cup.
