Who do you think our Peno taker should be?

was a bit nervous with Daniel on it, though I think he's got a good record. Apparently Ricki wanted Greenie to take it or thought he would anyway, but I wouldn't have felt completely confident then either.

Who should it be?

What are our records with penalties?

If Ifill is on the field, he should be the one to take the penalties. Here's the order I would go with:

1. Ifill
2. Greenacre
3. Daniel
4. Sanchez
5. Vukovic

I'd go Ifill top, not sure about Sanchez but you would think he would be decent.

Number 5 would be an interesting debate.
Id trust Ward or smith more than Leo, Brown, Lia or Muscat. Maybe Durante as he was the one who took one vs perfplaywithFire2012-01-06 15:08:42

I've never seen Sanchez take a peno, but he seems to be great at the free kicks, so I'm guessing he will be a handy peno taker.

Siggy would scare the keeper into submission...running in from half way...straight down the middle

I still have nightmares about that penalty in Perth!!!

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

I still remember the penalty Daniel missed against melbourne in our first ever game before we had ever scored a goal. I was very nervous seeing him take it. Ifill seems a touch reluctant but I don't recall him missing one. Sanchez and Smith seem like they would be good choices.

Vinnie Lia. He'll do a job for ya! *

* N.B. This may not be an entirely serious suggestion

Tim Brown. Something that you want from a penalty taker is experience - and he's one of the most experienced we've got

Within reason i'm OK with whoever is feeling it at the time. Very much a mental thing. You could see on Wednesday that Daniel wasn't giving that ball up for anyone.

When Dadi had his moment, Ricki said that the plan is for whoever is confident to take it. Vuko had to ask Daniel for the ball before he scored his.

Pretty sure other than then, if Daniel has been on the pitch he's always taken them. Greenacre has taken one (vs Newcastle) and failed.

Surely you look to your strikers to take penalties? After all, aren't they meant to be the best finishers in the squad?

If you aren't confident in your strikers (I'm looking at you, Greenie) to put away a dead ball from 10 yards out then they shouldn't be in the squad.

In the play-offs almost two years ago the order was:

1. Ifill
2. Dura
3. Timmy (with head bandage)
4. Caceres
5. Not needed

Dadi was hoping it didn't go beyond 10 penalties...

indeed, but it's those extra 2 yards that cause the problem

Yeah Daniel has been the first taker since he joined the club and Ifill seems to have a go when he is on the field.......
Daniel is a dead ball specialist and Sanchez would have a lot to offer with taking peno's too.

Ifill IS our peno taker though. If hes on, he takes them. I thought this was common knowledge? Ive heard Ricki and the squad mention it numerous times.

Victory should have dropped Archie and Allsopp then as Muscat was long their taker.

He'd probably deliberately hit te crossbar so he could rise up and nod it into the back of the net.

What you said is stupid, hence the ensuing facepalm. Your pen taker should be the player who is best at taking pens, whichever position they play. End of.

So is it general consensus that taking a penalty is far different to finishing inside the box in general play? If it is, fair enough, I'll accept it, that's why I asked the question. No need to call my statement stupid if you disagree with it.

Yes, yes it is. Why else would Durante take one of the penalties when (at the time) he had no scored a single goal for us?

Fair enough then. I thought those players who spend their time in front of goal in general play would be the ones who would be best at pens.

But I suppose that's why I'm not a professional football coach/manager.
