I spoke to a current player recently, and he said that they had to organise a sweepstake themselves. Ricki did nothing.

Wrong - Ricki was teaching them to think on their feet, and make right decicions!

Pretty fair summary. It'll be an interesting game for sure. Surprised moss isn't getting game time, but perhaps it's not worth risking losing your reserve keeper to injury? Boxall has just come off 90mins and probably doesn't need the match fitness. Thought they'd give lia some minutes, but he did travel to Melbourne, and maybe is pushing for a starting spot this weekend?

As this Phoenix A side is going to play each of the ASB premiership teams this season in a challenge series it's certainly going to be a good workout for the Nix reserves, academy players. It's probably the best NZF could do as they can't officially enter a team of technically professional players in a technically amateur competition. Should be a good series for football fans.

That backline looks very, very vulnerable.

Phoenix players probably need to fly back same day. I agree it's not the most convenient but if spectators really wanted to see it, most would be able to make it.

Thought Doyle was more of a midfielder than a CB? Would have thought Lindsay was more suited to playing CB as a fill in. But maybe better that he gets time in his best position

Does he know what his best position is in Ricki's eyes.

Was going to make his debut at CB wasn't he, and has also been training as a back up RB (or was that just to fill a potential injury hole), but after a year and a bit has not had a look in yet in a DM or CM role.

Specialist squad player??

A lot of youngsters on the field for both teams. So many changes it wasn't a very cohesive performance by either side. Thought PA showed some resolution going forward and ACFC sometimes played too many back and square passes that hampered forward momentum. Totori tried too often to dribble through defenders, thought Clarke showed some nice touches. Sanchez only on as second half sub (I think) so didn't have much time to prove himself. More of an even match in second half.

Thought the player who shone was Tade, scored two goals for City, one a beauty. I shouted at Chris that you can't have 'im! Spoonley solid in goal and Albert Riera good in midfield. Pleased to see young Simon Arms and Dan Saric get a good workout for City.

A robust game to watch in beautiful conditions, pity more didn't turn up but 5.30pm is an awkward time for anyone working.

Hope Team Wellington get a good turnout from YF for the curtain raiser game this weekend.

Totori; it seems to be a country thing as they all do the same, and need re- training to look up and pass the ball. Ferodio  seem better at the team game.

Emi would be an import for the Nix so wouldn't think they'd consider him. Shouldn't be far off the five years though. Been smashing goals in for some time and isn't unknown to them.

Fuck this stupid game

So based on what you saw today, Totori or Clarke? Who'd you rather have?

Neither Totori nor Clarke looked like they were knocking down the door for a starting place tbh. Interesting to watch Downey and Greenacre trying to instruct Totori on his defensive positioning in the first half and being completely ignored.

Thought Boyd looked good while he was on and think it was Downey who put in a nice cross for Bertsch's goal. Sanchez got on for the last 20 but don't recall him doing too much, good to see him getting back to fitness though.

Great the lads are going to have this amount of football. Will be super interesting to see their progress over this year of training in a professional environment. Lindsay seems to be in the worst position because he can't play for TeeDubs & there are 3 or 4 guys ahead of him in the first team.

Both Totori and Clarke average...I see why Clarke hasn`t made the game day squad, communication could be a bit of a problem............ will be on the first plane back to Panama when Sanchez is back
