Why is it that the phoenix are uneligiable to compete in the ACL if they finish in the top two in the A-League.
to my knowledge the ACL regulations does not have any clause saying the can not , technically they can according to it. so is it the FFA who have said they are not allowed?? the FFA do not have any regulations which say so.
Is there any official documents whihc state the exact reason and regulation as to why the phoenix would not be granted an ACL slot if they finihs in the top2 in the A-league.
what is the deal? is it a contractual issue between the FFA and the Phoenix as a consequence of enabling them to have an A-League Licence

The club and players are registered in Australia, I cant see why they are not allowed to play in that competition other than FFA or the other A League clubs being jealous of the Nix success should they qualify.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

The only reason I can think of is that NZF holds the Nix licence not the actual club. Otherwise there is no reason why we shouldn't be allowed to compete.

Yeah, you can only have 3 'imports' and we have heaps of Kiwis obviously which count as imports.

The Knights were the same. The pariticpation agreement for the NZ side says they may not play in the ACL. TOny is/was working on getting this changed.

Never though about it this way, suppose that would be a rather large issue.
Cannot wait for the day the OFC gets absorbed into the AFC and we can completely forget about this mess.

Needs to be sorted out quickly, but it wouldn't be too difficult to keep our best 3 kiwi players and sign a number of australians to fill the rest of the squad on short term contracts (provided we were ever to make it into the ACL that is).

Actually, it would be very difficult, our squad would exceed the 23 man limit and who exactly would we sign?
You know we belong together...

...and with the current Calendar you don't compete until the following year. Newcastle as the reigning Champions start in 2009 February for instance, which with current form is not remotely good.
