Is this the one they cancelled??, or have they decided not to invite the Hoi Polloi.

Note to Mark Sainsbury - Hoi Polloi means the masses, not the gentry - you numptie.
He kept going on yesterday how ordinary Kiwis were getting to mingle with the Hoi Polloi at Windsor Castle chapel. Dippit.

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

Here are a few good photos from me - and a few rubbish ones from CNUT who was too drunk to hold the camera and was more concerned about getting "Now You're Stalking' snaps

Minor point: how come Smeltz gets the Yellow Fever player of the year, but Moss gets the Fans player of the year?

Can we have some video too please?

yeh pendant here, waiting for a classics scholar to correct me, the hoi polloi were the majority in the ancient Athenian...errr whats the word..say assembly..but not the masses in the sense of the plebians or proletariat as there were qualifications required to vote...

I think I remember someone telling me...but yeh says on wiki that it is a common misusuage...something to do with hoity toity or something...

Hoi Polloi - I will always remember that it means the commoners, the ordinary people, because I saw someone answer on "Who wants to be a millionaire?"   that it meant the toffs and they lost a bundle.

Off to buy a powerball ticket now, I want to be a millionaire 18 times over!!

In ancient Greek, Hoi Polloi literally means the many, i.e. the masses as we would put it today. There is no ancient Greek political concept at play here as you suggest.el grapadura2008-04-05 17:57:07
