A good listen, mainly coz Dewhurst just let Piney Talk.

I wonder if Ricki has read the Ben Sigmund book, will be an awkward interview if he has.

Really excited about this book. I'm keen to find out more about the early history of the club. I only remember bits of the early seasons. Also interested in the history of the fever. Should be a good read.

Well he hasn't asked me yet, so he's not even interviewing all the main people apparently.

Will he take the easy route and just stitch all his pre-match columns into a book?

More seriously, has this been done for any other A-League club?

I believe there was a history of the league as a whole which came out last year(?)

Yeah that would be this one. It's quite a funny read at times to be reminded of some stories you had forgotten about. The crazy Clive Palmer era with Gold Coast is a particular highlight. Also caused me to face palm a lot at some FFA decision making.

There's an Adelaide book as well, it's called A Decade United. I haven't read it but it's got good reviews and seems to have interviewed all the key people.

There is also a WSW book coming out http://www.hardiegrant.com.au/publishing/bookfinder/book/welcome-to-wanderland-by-michael-visontay/9781743792568

Im hoping Piney can do a 'Where are they now' section for it, would be interesting to see what some of them are up to. We all know Elrich is in jail but then you have the likes of Cleberson who is over in Queensland and tragically lost his kid a couple of years ago.

Should've called it

"A Pissant Town" surely?

Looking forward to hearing how this project goes. Practically have grown up with the club being a major part of my life so it'll be a good read looking back at certain times and relating them back to other certain things.

Isn't there a thread on this? Probably get better information on there? No disrespect to Piney but as a writer he wouldn't want to end in court

Yes there is a thread but its rather patchy on info. And how would Piney go to court for getting in contact with former players and having a 5 min convo about life post Phoenix & putting it down on paper?

Still reckon one of the best days of those early days was the first game at the stadium no kit around so everyone just wore either yellow or black. The BB before and after just rocked, there were also some good meet the players nites in those early days as well. The classic was the nite  it bucketed down and Phoenix players and staff out numbered the YF embarrassing.

Are you talking about the pre-season game against Sydney? Where it was scheduled for the Basin but shifted to the Stadium because of the interest?

One of the greatest days ever. Still have the ticket up at my desk at work. Got mashed at the BB beforehand, remember the first time I heard "same old aussies, always cheating", thought it was the funniest thing I'd ever heard.

Now I sigh whenever it starts up! Hahahahaha

"We're not Auckland anymore" was awesome in the early days too.

Yep thats the one sure was a great day the assortment of tops was a classic. The other one that came out that day was your just a bunch of convicts.Found my ticket along with a whole lot of other stuff during a recent cleanup.

Would love to have that enthusiasm back again but sadly traveling circus   has pretty much dulled it for the moment.

That could actually be an interesting chapter as it seems at times that some are very selective on  remembering things. Also seems that some lay claim to being there when that isn't the case. Then again it's only since Welnix took over that things really count anyway.

Terry's part will go straight from hair cut to "I have no money, the Cars and houses are not mine"

Thats are the press reported about him back then (maybe  the odd glamour attachment of the day)

:-)

I always thought it came about after a conversation with the Beige Brigade

I think the idea came up before that, and they went to the beige brigade for ideas.

There are so many good stories about the Fever beginning.

The page launched with an "exclusive" interview with Tim Brown (written by me) which was actually Wiremu Patrick (current Miramar coach) pretending to be him...

I also did a classic interview with Ricki which must be floating around here up at Terry's office where I managed to get about 15-20 basic facts wrong...all captured on video

Big issue also has to be how crap we've been for the past few years

Objectively we have been really bad.  Finishing 10th, 9th, 4th and 9th; GD of -18, -6, +10 and -20 over the past 4 seasons - it doesn't make great reading!!  180 goals conceded in 108 games for 122 points (source; Wikipedia).
