Normo's coming home
Normo's coming home
Having NZ being successful in the qualifying legs for the world cup can only be good for the A-League - ie having more of their players being exposed to the world cup.
damn...

On positive: There is considering that we don't have a reserve squad or a youth squad to reach into like the other A-League clubs. Also with the announcement of the matches early before the season may allow rescheduling of the season to take place and so there is very little disruption to the travel arrangements and other team preparations as well as rescheduling of Tv and marketing arrangements.
But 13 matches in 10 weeks in four countries for the All Whites is a rough road ahead.

I agree but you would have thought that FA would be a little more intelligent now then it was a season or two ago.

FFA muthauckaz ucking with our sh*tVery strange.

Whatever they do with regard to phoenix players for those games, the whole excercise will be of questionable value if the likes of Killen, Nelsen, Elliott and Smeltz arent released by their clubs. I suppose for those who are not playing or starting regularly (or if the club looks out of play offs contention - e.g. San Jose) it shouldnt be an issue - but I doubt Blackburn or Gold Coast are going to be massively enthusiastic about sending key players off to the Middle East in September to play some friendlies. Fallon, Wood, even Boyens, Oughton, Brockie, McGlinchey could potentially have problems.
you're always sh*tting on us you cocks.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet
Correct. However the clubs has release them about either its 48 hours or 24 hours before kick off for a friendly in an FIFA International window. If it was an official WCQ, then they would have much more time for training preparations than 24/48 hours before kick off. I think they would then be given something like 10 days before kick off then. I can't be bothered to check it but that is the guise of it.AllWhitebelievr2009-07-20 22:47:49
http://www.theworldgame.com.au/a-league/phoenix-request-rejected-206632
The A-League has knocked back a request from Wellington Phoenix to postpone their match against Adelaide United in September so New Zealand can play two trial matches for their forthcoming 2010 World Cup playoff.
This comes as a blow to New Zealand's chances of reaching the World Cup for the second time in their history.
Phoenix should have four starters and three men on the bench when the All Whites play Bahrain or Saudi Arabia away on October 10 and in Wellington on November 14 for a place in the finals in South Africa.
Captain Tim Brown, Tony Lochhead and Leo Bertos started all three matches for the Kiwis in the recent Confederations Cup while Dave Mulligan and Ben Sigmund started one match and Jeremy Christie started one match and came on as a substitute in the other two.
Ricki Herbert, who doubles as New Zealand and Phoenix coach, has arranged two crucial trial matches in Amman against Asian champions Iraq and Jordan on September 5 and 9, which both fall on FIFA dates.
Phoenix have a Round 5 league date with the Reds at Westpac Stadium on September 4 and have tried to get the date changed but the game will now go ahead as scheduled.
A postponement would have caused too much disruption to the competition," A-League chief Archie Fraser said.
New Zealand are expected to go ahead with their two trial matches in Amman and at this stage it is unclear what team Phoenix will field against the Reds.
Herbert, depending on how Phoenix start their league campaign, could take his international players to Amman because the club would have no right to stop them from going anyway.
He might also have to look into the possibility of letting some or all of his internationals play against Adelaide on September 4 and and fly them to Amman for the second New Zealand trial on September 9.

Like AWB said above, it's in a FIFA window, so the clubs have to release players, but since it's a friendly, the 48-hour rule applies.
But like I said earlier, I just can't understand this decision from the FFA. I mean how much disruption would postponing this game really mean? I mean, come on. You can't reschedule the game at a later date, with a midweek kickoff? Absolute bollocks.
Filling left back will be interesting. Might need to get Paul Muollo in

Step 1, make sure the media find out about this - including comments from Archie Fraser - before you even tell the Phoenix.
Step 2, Get Bonita Mersiades to talk to NZ media and ensure she is informed.
- She refers to an NZ match against Malta. WTF ? It's two games against Iraq and Jordan.
- She mentions that the Phoenix never mentioned this when the draw was being done. Well they wouldn't have would they as they had no idea that the games that NZ football hadn't organised yet would be on.
- The FFA's response also suggests that the Phoenix should "just sign more players" so it wouldn't be a problem. WTF ?
So the club unable to enter the youth league, and unable to maximise revenue through the champions league should 'just sign more players'.
I'm sorry but get f**ked.
With the constant double standards around the Gold Coast vs the rules to everyone else and now this it's quite obvious that the A-League is no longer a level playing field. If you have more money you are allowed to buy a competitive team whereas if you aren't at the pointy end they can nick your coach or just tell you to f**k off when you make a reasonable request.
The O'Neill and Matt Carroll era may have been flawed but at least you felt they understood that for the league to survive everyone needed to have a fair chance. This is just becoming a farce.
I hope TP goes off on one when he gets back.

Completely, 100% agreed. It feels like the FFA are constantly treating us like 2nd class citizens.

I guess it is an Australian League, so they'll do what they want, when they want.
I say tackle him in the face.
Actually think its not too bad an Idea. he wouldn't need to play, but if he did, he would probably be only on a for half a game max. Would be the next best alternative on the roster.
