PHOENIX FAMILY DAY
Welcome your Phoenix All Whites heroes home

PHOENIX fans will have the chance to welcome back some of New Zealands World Cup heroes when Wellington Phoenix FC holds it annual family-focused open day at Westpac Stadium this Sunday.

The Phoenix contributed star goalkeeper Mark Paston, Tim Brown, Tony Lochhead, Leo Bertos, Ben Sigmund and coach Ricki Herbert to the All Whites stellar campaign in South Africa, with the Kiwis bowing out of the tournament despite being unbeaten in their three group matches.

From 11am-2pm on Sunday, July 4, the star six will rejoin their Phoenix teammates at Westpac Stadium for the Wellington clubs annual Phoenix Family Day in what will be a wonderful opportunity for fans to welcome home their heroes and get fired up for the Phoenixs coming Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season.

We havent experienced this unbelievable sense of pride in New Zealand as a football nation for a long time and I still dont think that we have quite grasped the magnitude of what the All Whites have achieved, said Phoenix interim chief executive Nathan Greenham.

Its an amazing time for football in New Zealand and its not over yet by any means. The club is gearing up for another exciting Hyundai A-League campaign on the back of last seasons fantastic performance and everything is pointing toward our biggest and best season yet. Add to that the Phoenixs game against Argentinas Boca Juniors at Westpac Stadium on July 23 and the football carnival rolls on.

The Phoenix Family Day on Sunday, July 4, represents the official start of the Phoenixs Hyundai A-League 2010/11 campaign.

Our family open day at Westpac Stadium has always been incredibly popular with the fans and the return of our All Whites stars and coach Ricki Herbert will make this years event something extra special.

The Give It A Go area will feature a range of fun football activities. Fans will also have the opportunity to experience what happens behind the scenes on game day at Westpac Stadium. The Phoenix change rooms will be open for fans to explore. Better still, visitors will have the opportunity to walk out the players tunnel on to the hallowed Westpac Stadium turf.

The full Phoenix squad will be on hand to chat with fans, sign autographs and pose for photographs. Classic Hits breakfast show host Camille Guzzwell will host the event, featuring interviews with players and Phoenix stars going head-to-head is some fun challenges.

The Phoenix Family Day kicks off at 11am on Sunday, July 4, and finishes at 2pm.

Heard on the radio they are also selling season memberships and tickets to the Boca Juniors game.

Hope the weather will be nice for us.

Hope it's a good day.

We probably won't be going, but might suddenly change our minds on the day.

Forecast is for rain

Hope there is no rain, or at the most some light drizzle.

Was a good turnout last year, and with the World Cup players just back, I would expect a bumper crowd to show-up regardless of the weather.

^^ It was indeed a really fantastic day, bigger crowds than last year. Everyone in the mood, we bought 2 more Boca tickets (tally up to 14) and I was talking to a family from Otaki who were queuing up to buy their first ever season passes! The momentum is growing!

Yeah, I spotted the Paston shirt there. You were the last ones allowed in the Ricki Herbert queue. I wasn't allowed to join and even showed the girl that I had Ricki's "A new Fire" book that I wanted signed. She wasn't having any of it and I had no money to pay her off.

You should have given it to me to get it signed!  I would have done it for free!   That queue was particularly chaotic, people kept cutting in at the front.

<< Pasty was v nice and even re-signed the shirt, the original was getting a bit faded ...

Open day numbers have climbed every year and it seems like they were doing good ticket business today.  Season tickets already around last years number I believe.

How's my driving? - Whine here

Thats pretty massive news if true! I expect a lot of season tickets to be bought closer to the time of the season starting,or is my logic a little wrong in that assumption?

Allegedly
