Great article on the new fitness coach at the Phoenix

Phoenix have signed a new fitness coach. A Yorkshireman called Baranowski who has had 22 years experiance in England. Worked with five EPL clubs.

Sounds like quite a score for the Phoenix. This guy, who has been with the Phoenix for a month is implementing identical fitness training regimes that you would find in any current EPL club.

Interesingly he is apposed to players running there bollocks off to get fit.....its all now done scientificaly....i'll bet  the players are happy about that.!

Could give us that small bit of advantage for the coming season.

Quite a coup that someone with that amount of top level experience in the UK moves to NZ for "lifestyle" reasons, misses football involvement so much and finds the Phoenix......

Now, if only Kevin Phillips felt the same.....

But in seriousness, to have someone like Ed involved in such a crucial area as fitness and conditioning for our mighty Phoenix and the luxury of an already assembled squad and a full pre-season this year.....

Wow, last year was amazing but this year is already looking so much better...

Wow, this is a real coup, Terry has had this guy fall in his lap, you would be hard pressed to find someone of this calibre AND be able to bring them to NZ.

It's all coming together!

Good stuff. We suffered away from home in the heat/after the travel etc. last year so this could help a lot.

Not suprising to know that Lochhead is the fittest of the bunch. To be as fit as a prem league player when he's only been in pre season for a few weeks is bloody impressive though.

Any thoughts on the most unfit? :P

that is good news, news that probably should have been announced on the phoenix website about 4 weeks ago,not via a newspaper article.

Yeah - that is true. Wondering why it took this long. Though I guess they wanted to see how he actually was before 100% committing.

In the first training Covs looked the most unfit by far...but guess he is a bit of an oldie now haha so bit unfair to judge on the first training of pre pre season.

Allegedly

was down at training yesterday and saw this guy operating, seemed all class and the boys looked to be responding well to his regimes and techniques.

I agree a great coup due to his specific experience but to be fair I think there are  Sports Scientists in NZ of the same or higher calibre but without the direct exposure to top flight football that this guy brings.

I like what he says about fitness training using the ball. Of course there is no getting away from having to do the hard physical yards but the more of this that can be combined with an element of ball skill the better I think players are prepared for having to perform when under a combination of physical and competitive pressure. You can see this in the great teams that always seem to come through in the last 10 miniutes - even when exhausted they can maintain their skill level.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

i think its awesome that the nix are getting quality signings both on and off the pitch.

I have an amazing ability to find my way out of mazes. I'm pathological.

Anyone know the training schedule for the next week. I'd like to go along to one or two - depending on how my petrol tank goes.

The guy's pedigree and attitude is really impressive - can only help to raise the Nix to the next level.

Loved the positive comment comparing the players attitude to training to the Leeds work ethic.
