All home games in Wellington - stuff going on the road except for pre-season. How many home games have we seen of the Warriors? (of late we probably don't want to see any either).

The whole idea is for the home games is that you make an effort to get there, If the nix have fans all over new zealand im sure that they will not have too much trouble catching a bus/train/flight to the game....
i know that i travel up to central coast to watch sydney's games-
but now im a nix fan im sure i will be hittn up one welly, one sydney, and 2 central coast-Thats 4 games for all those that went to school in Christchurch.

It has been tried, moving the games around look at Hurricanes the ground sizes, logistics of travel were very restrictive. May be a photo ID season pass for trvellers from SI and Hamilton north. This could be then priced to help the fan travell.

opps! forgot free entry to Away games also may have an impact both ways for across the Tasman travel.

Atmopshere will be a big killer tho, its hard to establish a conistant fan base with Phoenix, a) some people dont want to pay money for games and air-fare b) season ticket holders would be put off from buying them.

Why this come up again?

We all ready had a thread about this and almost everyone agreed that it would be a stupid move by the Phoenix to move around not only finacially but becoz they would ave a problem building a solid supporter base.

Maybe cos other football lovers want to have a chance to see NZ's only professional side?

It appears that it has touched a nerve tho, not sure why as all the people commenting on this (and the last) thread probably had little to no input in securing the franchise in Wellington.  Yet they seem all protective and passionate about keeping it in Wellington.  "WELLINGTON Phoenix play in WELLINGTON, get it?"

Just understand that there are others out there interested and don't have the means to get to Wellington and it isn't really that bad an idea to play in another city.  Honestly, what harm would it do to the 'fan base'?   It could be like having two away games in a row which happens all the time in every sport and every league...

maybe we should have yellow fever representives going around the country boosting awareness.  Paid for by a combination of the Phoenix and Wellington City Council (and maybe try to tap up the government for some support as well)

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

What I would like to see for us Kingz/Knights refugees is perhaps some sort of NZ comp where we can see the Nix play the Auckland City, etc - a knockout tourny would be ideal, or a pre-season tourny, since the NZFC is not that far away.

Auckland City v Phoenix would draw 5000 in Jaffaville, Kiwitea St would rock.

That sounds allrite and good to trial youngsters.

If they Phoenix were to play 1 or 2 games abroad a year were could it go like only 2 cities Christchurch and maybe Hamilton cos Auckland wont support anyone.

i honstly  do not see them playing in hamilton, i think wellington, christchurch ok, auckland i think could field some supporters. The thing is look at the sydney teams prior to the a-league. I NSL never had suporters-perth was the best team to watch and it was still terible level!
Now they pull decent crowds and partly its because of the marketing...auckland never marketed well-about as much effort as the kings...

With a good campaign and strong supporters it can lift the nix to a team to watch(like melborne)

It's not only going to come from wellington-for the first season it needs to be a packed stadium. And then after some good results people from auckland will be happy to say that they support the nix. Lose and they are goneeee-

I think Wellingtonians will get behind the Nix regardless cos its NEW to Wellington (lets face it, Auckland had it too long and maybe there was complacency that the Franchise would remain in AK). I know the Nix are no Hurricanes, but they are an example of a team that the region supported even though they lost.

I would support the Nix even if they lost as long as I could see that they are showing improvement - however, losing games by more than 3 goals would not be percieved as positive.....But hey lets all give em a fair go and back the NIX!

Auckland City v Nix would attract a good crowd. City have a great support base by NZFC standards and their would be a lot of former Kingz/Knights fans who would turn up. If there was something on it it would get 5000 plus no sweat.

Canty Utd would be the same. Would make a great pre season game!

Just a note

Sadly there is no nude beach in rio that i can think of. Its outlawed here, however you get to see plenty of fantastic bodies in very little anyway.

And yeah it is a little time consuming cycling through 14 pages.....

Im loving this forum though ay, Its funny because I had my yellow fever vaccine before i came to Brazil and here I am inundated by it now!!! hahaha

Will be good to meet some of you in person at a game!!!!

Botafogo - Rio de Janeiro and Wellington Phoenix, my two teams til death do us part.

By having no nude beaches, does that mean you wouldn't see any Brazilians?

Pre-season games against NZFC opposition (Team Wellington, Canterbury United, Auckland City) would be a great way to advertise the Phoenix - provided they won all of the games.

Being based in Auckland ,as much as I would like to see a match up here I would not recommend any type of "Home" matches played out of Wellington

As I am sure Hardnews can attest too, this produces a large gap in momentum & frustration,as when matches are played elsewhere they caused confusion for "Home" based supporters  & casual supporters.

Experience with The Football Kingz saw significantly smaller crowds for the next home match and this could be partially attributed to this drop in momentum as people had lost touch with where & when the next home game was.

It is only something that should be entertained once a strong support base is obtained in Wellington.

Personally speaking I will be fortunate enough to see most home matches and am quite enjoying the anticipation of a new season

How often did the Kingz/Knights play their home games somewhere else? Not many.... if any...

And it would be a hard case to sell that this had anything to do with the awful crowds they got in Auckland, our biggest city.

I was referring to The Kingz...Wellington,Chch,Hamilton.

Personally I think it is a good idea having the Phoenix based in Wellington as there is too much competion in Auckland for the discretionary dollar.(Knights/Kingz had to contend with The Warriors,Breakers,Blues, not to mention North Harbour,Counties Rugby Netball,Auckland Mortgages ,Water Sports,(general costs of living) Your numerous other activities ie Rainbows ends Kelly Taltons etal.,

This is not too put anwhere else (Wellington) down its just a fact of life.

Ohh Finally,...never mind Granny Herald.

No no mate that's fine.
Put Wellington down if you want. I hear they have got ten pin bowling now.
Actually went to Jade Stadium to watch the Knights/Kingz. Well worth the effort but ican understand what people say about the impact on home games in Auckland. I think the best scenario is pre season games in other centers to satisfy those fans who live out of Wellington.
