Yeah, the retailers still want to get rid of their last stocks of last season's gear on sale before they start selling the new stuff.

Just wait for the Reebok deal to run out in a couple of years and you may be able to change the strip. Remember that the Roar wanted Maroon and Orange stripes but they did get them either.

One of those great ironies that Reebok can condense the strips into choices from "templates", mass produce them at even lower cost than usual, and you know they're still going to cost one-fitty...

I vote Canterbury of New Zealand as the new sponsor when the Reebok deal runs out. Who cares if they're not even a Kiwi brand these days. And while we're at it, I'll take the old ABs Steinlager logo back... or maybe we should swap it for a Monteiths. Speaking of which - where's my beer?

Yellow number/name sounds good though. That's basically what makes everyone remember the gold on the Lions strip, not the black... And if you're #11, well, its one small step towards stripes...

Trying to decide if I would have perferred yellow arms. Here's a quick 5 minute job. I'm not sure to be honest.

The problem's probably the yellow... Need some glow-in-the-dark blind-the-opposition stuff imported from Brazil. And then we just use black as the away strip. Perfect!

The black is more of the metro choice. Probably looks right sh*t hot with jeans. Even better if they have grass stains from when you decided to show up the local kids at some 3 on 3 on the way home.

Did you mean concerted? Freud would surely approve of that faux-par.

I must say that I was looking forward to stripes. I guess we'll just have to lobby the club -  and until they see sense we'll all be looking slimmer.

I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.

Well, yeah, "conceited push" works fine if Hugie meant that Melbourne supporters are full of themselves... would be a little bit too much too soon

....I gotta get me a signature.

To be honest, I'm underwhelmed. To me its just a rehash of things that have come before. No imagination involved.

Somehow doubt it will be Zeros as they only exist in Auckland (and the US), and the whole Lee and Dawkins family ownership...

There have been press rumours that they are close to having a sponsor.  Just hope they do the logo properly, not some iron on patch.

Incidentally... Zeros > Subway

Rebel will get them first so keep checking here:

http://rebelsport.com.au/?action=list&category=2398

I'd give it a month at least though.

They'll need to do all the kit, balls, scarves, etc.

Maybe you'll get a bright yellow scarf to cover up the black a bit and a yellow beanie (yeccch!).

Might not be Rebel. I think there will be a sole NZ outlet (as well as the official web sales) which will sell at the stadium as well. They are very stringent about who retails them, and they have some chunky rules that they have to abide by.

Hmmm, I wonder...
Any nominations for worst sponsor (or potential sponsor) ever? Whaddaya reckon?

And I don't just mean by the brandname, but also by how horrible the logo looks on a shirt...
The one that springs to immediate mind is when Juventus had "Sky" splurged on their zebra stripes like a mustard stain from an oversized cheeseburger. But I know there's far worse out there...(The golden arches on any shirt would just look like as out of place as a fat ballet dancer)

Opinions?

Yeah, ok. "Concerted" effort. But the point still stands. If you guys want your strip to be different then you have to keep complaining and proving to Reebok (and the club) that there are enough people sufficiently excited about the Phoenix for them to have a new design!

Maybe if we beat you guys we can strip your V's from your shirts... could be like a Ranfurly Shield thing.

...Maybe not.

Haha and do you think Zeros will be quite keen to come back to sponsor the NZ side?

That is the Hurricanes, a regional team that represent the South of the North Island.  Not just Wellington:

...is the Wellington Specific jersey.

Well the NZFC team is this:

The cricket team is like this (though in recent years has been more gold than
black):

Wellington Hockey is this:

I don't think either colour is hence the dominant one. It just depends on the design chosen.

As a side note, what it is with Wellington and flaming birds? Firebirds and now Phoenix.

The Hurricanes started off as the Wellington Hurricanes.
Every Wgtn Footy Rep team I have known plays in Yellow.
Black is not a colour anyway
Why is there a picture of the Miramar Second team keeper in a Team Welly top?

I agree with a previous poster in saying more yellow would have been ideal as being prodiminatly black it could remind us of the Knights strip haha.

In our last season in the Premier League and before we were butchered to give the MK Abortion a spot in the league Wimbledon were sponsored by TINY. There's nothing like running around with that advertised on them to make a group of players lose the plot and get relegated.

Righty ho, where is the yellow in the strip, it's hardly noticeable. I thought it would be more like the cricket kit.  Still I don't give a hoot, I'm just glad there's still a professional club here.

Im not sure i favour the away strip that much. I mean the yellow was a great way to capture Wellington and they passed on that and went with white. It looks oh k i guess but not really reflective of the city.

Hurricanes don't = Wellington. Common misconception.

Nice kit. Shame you guys didn't get the stripes. It would be a nice change from all the plain kits. If I wasn't a Victory fan I'd be coming down with a case of Yellow fever as I've always had a thing for Phoenixes and (as a Richmond Tigers fan) Yellow and Black. You guys will be my sentimental favourites though.

Good luck for 2007/08.

"Sentimental Favourites" eh... does that mean we get the crappy sweater you knitted us for Christmas while Victory gets the BMX... cos if that's the way you wanna play, then I'm not singing any carols for anyone at the dinner tonight.

Damn. And I was doing so well in therapy.

Look, all I was saying is that I wish you guys all the best and that if you guys were around when the league was first formed I'd be a Phoenix fan. Don't take my sentiments as a sign of pity. To be honest I was pulling for Townsville and was disappointed they didn't get the nod until I started hearing that Wellington have a big football community and have embraced the news of a new team. Terry Serepisos has aspirations of not only putting together a profitable and winning team but he's hoping to bring a championship to Wellington within five years. That's the reason Wellingotn will be my sentimental favourites but that said I look forward to growing to hate you guys when you start to become a serious threat whenever that may be.
