Probably 'who are ya?'?

Yeah it was, until that one Victory player started applauding us and we responded in suit. Pure class for both parties involved!

Cleberson had to be man of the match for me especially in the 2nd half.

Old was shocking, looked like a sunday league pub player to me,  I am afraid the 9 who voted for him must have been watching a different game!

I'm a aisle 22er and you got the chant right Robb

big ups all around.  recognition from the melbourne boy of how rowdy we were in getting behind our team, and response from us lot...
i'm all for heckling and jeering, and being plain rude, but when a bloke does that, all power to him!

It speaks volumes (badoom-ching) about the passion we have when a partially deaf person on row Q can make out the chants clearly enough to type out the words later haha

definitely shape started to look better when felipe came on, but big cleberson pulled things together in that back four after a pretty shaky start, he got my vote

Cleberson for stemming the Victory tide in the second half, Felipe for bringing in more urgency, Daniel for reigniting the flame in the Ring of Fire in the 79th min and Smeltz for pouring the petrol on in the 85th min! Great finish guys, came close to winning...voted for Daniel, despite his early stutters, cos his goal sparked it all off.
If there had been a Yellow Fever/Aisle 21/22 choice to vote for I probably would have too cos your work certainly revved the crowd up and got everyone behind the team.Well done Fever!Great atmosphere..by the time CCMariners get here I should just about have my voice back!

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

Old... and i'll tell you why.

Despite not been the standout others were i believe he had the best game simply for the fact he's a cb playing rb in an attacking team AND STILL DID WELL.

His passing was generally v good and he didn't do as many hopeful longballs as lochead who everyone is praising(old's baggage carried over perhaps?). He put some nice balls across, won his headers and was prominent physically.

Cleberson mad more crucial tackels admittedly but also made more mistakes including the missed charging header which almost lead to a goal, although we forgive him. Smeltz we praise for his goal which deflected off a defender on target and who missed a sitter of a header etc to win and old who did nothing wrong we sl*g?.

Old played out of position and was good!

i thought daniel was superb through out. kept playing well even after missing the pen.

Felipe was excellent when he came on the and big brazilian was a monster at the back.

but daniel's passing, movement and willingness to take melbourne on means he gets my vote. the boy is class.

ive got the fever.

Fair play TouchMe, I didn't know he was out of position, he did look like a typical centre back playing out of position without much of a clue.

I certainly wouldn't give him was man of the match though, just because he played out of position. He just had a very poor game throughout in my opinion, he looked well out of his depth and the only passing he did was back and sideways, he was also constantly out of position and we lost our shape because of this (especially 1st half).

I don't know of any baggage he may have, never heard of him before the Phoenix, just calling it from a personal  point of view.

I agree. In the first half he looked as if he didnt want the ball and failed to get into any good recieving positions down line when anyone central had posession. Tho it was easy to tell he was just nervous...like the rest of the phoenix he grew in confidence and played better as the game went on. He IS a good player.

He's the player we had the best view of in the first half so his mistakes were more obvious to us.

Just a message for touch me, Old was terrible, what game were you watching mate, he is slow, takes to long on the ball, and is definately not a fullback, lochhead played well and got foward well, when old went foward his technique let him down and takes him a while to get back into position, I wonder why the Jets didnt want to re-sign him. If he is going to play, I suggest he plays centre half, but with Cleberson playing outstanding and Karl Dodd being solid, I cant see Old breaking that partnership, Christie is garbage, a plodder.

Cleberson was rock solid! Daniel did alot of work, though needs to stay on his feet (his yellow card wasnt much of a dive but some of the others were worth yellows). Thought Coveny looked slow, am interested to see how Costa goes when he comes back from the under17 world cup. Feliepe was an amazing impact player! loved his urgency! I was in aisle 22 with yellow fever and thought it was amazing (WE'RE NOT AUCKLAND ANYMORE)!!!!!!!! Lets keep up the support at the games and not drop off like the Knights crowds did. I think our boys will do bloddy well, bring on the rest of the season!!!

My top players were

1.Daniel
2.Dodd
3.Cleberson
4.Felipe
5.Smeltz
6.Lochhead

Ferrante had a shocker, can't wait till Tim Brown is fit again to swap with Ferrante. I'll admit he tried hard but he should practice shooting first.

Old exceeded my expectations, he actually did well for what i was expecting. The first half he didnt know what to do down the right hand side, because Daniel was swapping from left mid to right mid. He got used to it and didnt really give much away,he left that for Ferrante to do.
I wouldnt say Old would be a first choice right back, but he didnt dissappoint me.

Covs only touched the ball twice in the whole match, so i dunno.

Aloisi was always going to be in battle with Muscat and did pretty well. Some intelligent balls played to the flanks.

Christie, once again not impressed - maybe he was doing some workhorse stuff i didnt see but from his history i'm not willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Brownlie was a little wasteful when he came on, unfortunate post hitting - maybe he shouldve gone near post??.

Moss wasnt too bad. The penalty height from muscat was a good height for a keeper tho. Since the Knights, Moss has become more confident in coming out for corners which is good.

Richard Johnson must have a sore arse from sitting on the bench all night..probly shouldve came on for Ferrante though.

Cleberson was so commited, I was really surprised. Daniel didn't really shine, but Felipe made one hell of an impact when he came on. Ferrante was busy but a bit wasteful but I think he will really grow into that position. Aloisi wasn't at his best but still showed the experience and fire we expected of him. Smeltz and Coveny are going to be a hard combo to take care of...Smeltz is really sharp. One change for me...Felipe in for Old and move Jeremy Christie to right back. Stephen Old is not suited to right back. He is too slow and not attack minded enough. Great performance though, pity we couldn't get another one at the end from Brownlie or Smeltz

Lochhead was pushing up a long way on the left.  Dodd was practically covering two positions most of the game.  They seem to want to set up a cross from the left like the second goal.  Old is the more defensive back, no use berating him for playing second fiddle.

Dodd was immense covering the left and center, surprised he has not got more votes.

I dont think Cleberson is that rock solid.   Hes great in the air, fast, tough, and I love his commitment... but gets drawn way out of position way too much, isn't quite on the same wavelength as the rest of the defense when playing the offside trap, and caused both the goals...  first with the hand ball and the second when he kept the Allsopp onside when Dodd had played the offside trap. I thought Dodd (who is class BTW) and Aloisi covered for him well.

It's fair to say Old isn't fast enough to be a fullback and will be targeted more if he plays there again.  But who else can play there???  Lia didnt impress there in preseason, Christie would be too slow maybe ODor when he gets back?

Ferrante looked like he was still playing for Melbourne in the first half... but hit some good corners and longer balls in the second half gave me hope that he will grow as a player as the season unfolds.

To be honest I didnt really notice Christie --- not sure if thats my fault or his.  Would like to see Brown or Jonson get a run next game (hopefully Brown is fit).

Smeltz was great sure his goal was a bit lucky with the deflection but I think he was trying to head it across to Aloisi who was free at the far post which could have worked if the defender hadnt got in the way.  If we get him running at defenders more he will be a superstar this season.

Royce Brownlie impressed me when he came on an IMO should start the next game.  Felt sorry for Coveny as we used the long ball far too much in the first half --- The Melbourne CBs were loving it!!!

Lockhead is class at leftback.  He defends well and looks dangerous on attack when he combined with Daniel --- we just need a right footed version of him for the other side!

But my player of the day was Felipe --- when he came on he really lifted the team.  What I liked about him is that hes tricky but he still plays quick There is no doubt that Daniel is a talent but he drives me crazy when stops the ball dead dances around it and then tries to do a back heel and then falls over clutching he ankle.

I also voted for Old, Yes he was sh*t in the first half playing too many long balls( because no one was making any runs for him in the midfield, so that he could play the ball into them.)

He was also caught out of position as he didn't seem to know where he should be. But in his defence nor did any of the  other Phoenix players as they were all to slow on the ball and were closed down by a very good Victory side.

To be honest in that first half it really looked like an extenison of the NZ Knights, long balls defence sitting to deep and victory running riot.

Old was a totally different player in the second half, made good runs foward, played ball to feet even took players on and got good crosses over.

The improvement in him from the first half in my opinion was massive .I also think that he will be one of the more consistant players in the Phoenix as his confidence improves.

Midfield was a concern for me as for 60 minutes we were run over by the Victory, though with Johnson and Brown to come into the side it will improve
.
To all you supporters at that game there is no way to discribe the sound coming over from the TV other than it was out of this world, the noise was unbeliveable you lot even had me out of my chair shouting!!!! just fantastic. Wellington Phoenix supporters you are a credit to the Club well done and I look forward to the next home game.
P.S. give Old some slack he is a very good player down on confidence.

Felipe for me even though he played hardly any of the game.  When he did come on he added the urgency that we were lacking in the start of the match.

felipe got it from me aswell because he played well, added spark to the team, daniel missed a penalty (but he played well),and not cleberson because he gave melbourne a penalty(he to played quite well

Quality post dksv, and I know it's sacrilege but I tend to agree.  His passion is superb but he made some pretty basic errors.

What a game, certainly got my money's worth and some! Hard to pick one stand out player as there were probably 4 or 5 in my eyes. Daniel certainly showed glimpses of class, just needs to cut out the diving!! I thought Cleberson was out of position a few times and hoofed the ball away a lot - although came right in the 2nd. Good to see the kiwi lads looking the part also. Overall a bloody good performance by all - on and off the field!

Face it everyone, that last 20 minutes were played with such speed and passion, that the whole squad deserve a MOTM award. It certainly has us all off our seats and it was oh so close to being 3 points for us. Yet our defending had also picked up too!.

Everyone is MOTM.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Have to agree totally. Whatever was he thinking with that handball, so bad he was luckly it was just a yellow card. That bit of foolishness could have cost us the game, not good from a seasoned pro like him.

quite right too!

OLD had a dog of a game, felipe was the catalyst for the comeback.  Daniel played well throughout but missed the penalty and got booked for diving - we don't need that at the Phoenix!  Cleberson had a good 2nd half but was a bit shaky in the first half and we looked vulnerable.

the fans were outstanding, i really thinks it makes a difference to the players out there!

Hey everyone. I'm a Melbourne fan. Just wanted to say I was really impressed with your team/crowd during the match. I was watching from home and you guys were really loud! I was actualy hoping for a draw as i want the club to be as successful as possible over there. Your atmosphere is probably already out doing teams Like Central Coast Mariners, and your chants are better than Sydneys hah (sydney pricks). hope you guys can get even more numbers to games and get some healthy (blood thirsty) rilvaries going. Not sure how you would go about that but if there's a will there's away.

how can cleberson get motm he gave away a penalty from which melbourne scored from. old was rubbish, christie did nothing, ferrante needs directions on where to find the goal, daniel fell over to much, dodd looked out of sorts
motm i agree is hard ot give to soemone who only played 20 minutes but he did make a huge impact. Perhaps the skipper deserves it this time round for the way he wore his yellow heart on his sleeve, also smeltz tried all day

You're right.  I voted for clerberson on the strength of his 2nd half performance.  But a defender doing such a blatant hand ball which could have cost the game -I shouln't have picked him.  can I change my vote please
