It hasn't been played yet, so we wouldn't know, but I'll go with Smeltz.

Hard to say. Lochead played well, as did Old and Cleberson. Smeltz may have got my vote if he got a 2nd goal but I though Daniel was a handful for the full 90 so hes my MOTM.

Daniel was class most the game but he did miss that penalty. Felipe must of had an impact as we played well as soon as he came on but I thought Cleberson was brilliant at the back so got my vote

Cleberson FTW. Played an excellent game, he was totally on to it.

smeltz for me. scored and showed his class with a spin and layoff in the dying minutes after the nice interplay between felipe and daniel down the left almost won us the match.

Felipe - game turned when he came on the park, looked like we had a bit more shape with Daniel staying to the left a bit more.

Eric the King saw it as I did.
Perhaps start with him and Coveny on the bench. Him and Smeltz are very much the same type of player, Felipe was a live wire when he came on, A very impressive 30 minutes.
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Sorry but do u guyes know much about football? Daniel man of match no chanceee mate. He is one of our best players no doubt but today did not play well. 2nd half did a few nice things sure. But sorry him diving and moaning jst pssed me off. Cleberson gets my vote. Did very well sorting out Archie. Also thought Smeltz did well upfront really good player he is.

Yup, have to agree with Felipo as well. A little livewire it seems, they just did not know what to do with him. Interesting to see whether he could sustain his terrier like tendencies for a full 90 minutes.

just done what (i think) is called a tactical vote

Aloisi, just cos i think he deserves some recognition for his work rate and some intelligent balls in the second half

If he had a few votes already then I'd be torn between Daniel (good 90 min effort, some nice pace down the left), Felipe (not long enough on for MOM really, but made the difference) and Clebo (coz he's a character, doesn't piss about and he geed them up after have time)

So one vote, four opinions  -  and one very happy camper

CLEBERSON for mine. I thought he had an outstanding game it it could have been an a whole lot worse a story by midway through the second half had he not been on the park.

Daniel played well and toiled hard all day, as did Aloisi. The young fella Felipe played very well when he came on the park, and could prove a very good impact player in the future.

A very good first up result for the lads and they certainly have my support for the rest of the season if they keep trying like that.

Cleberson was so commited, I was really surprised. Daniel didn't really shine, but Felipe made one hell of an impact when he came on. Ferrante was busy but a bit wasteful but I think he will really grow into that position. Aloisi wasn't at his best but still showed the experience and fire we expected of him. Smeltz and Coveny are going to be a hard combo to take care of...Smeltz is really sharp. One change for me...Felipe in for Old and move Jeremy Christie to right back. Stephen Old is not suited to right back. He is too slow and not attack minded enough. Great performance though, pity we couldn't get another one at the end from Brownlie or Smeltz

I was saying on another thread that he's been mentioned as looking good on two Australian forums I have checked today.  Maybe we're a bit harsh on him.

The game changed when Felipe Campos entered the ring a little pocket rocket ship very impressive must get a start next week.

Thought Clebs changed the game at the start of the second half - pushed forward and won alot of tackles  - Daniel looked lively - esp second half - Old looked dodgey at times - but playing longball was a big mistake -- Second half made up for all the short comings.....could of won it

Where gonna win 3-2!!!!!

Felipe, the team changed after he came on...Daniel was all over the place but not in a good way like usual..however, at least he takes people on

Daniel was sh*te for the first half but I guess most of our team was. My vote goes to Felipe with Dodd close behind - simply because Felipe turned the tide of the match. Cleberson deserves a mention too.

Thought Cleberson had a great game, always looked in control, and was still putting in great challenges with a yellow card hanging over his head. Solid.

Daniel for me - flag worrying about taking a dive from time to time... he's ours - he never dives!

Kleberson excellent whole-hearted second half. Felipe made a huge impact. Lochhead was impressive. Smeltz held the ball up well, but I'd like to see him facing goal more often.

I thought Aloisi - really dominated the middle of the park in the second half. Overall a good performance, the only one who didn't shine for me was Ferrante, but I think he was trying too hard to make a difference - pre-season showed he is a better player than he showed today

Lochhead did well...good little relationship with Daniel...seemed to link up well...Kleberson had a couple of moments in the first half where he looked like he got a little bit caught out, but came good second half and got stuck into some real go-forward tackling...Felipe mixed things up..Ferrante, Coveny and schmeltz had great work ethic and Aloisi looked to be involved at every opportunity...pretty good for the first game of the season...great last 15 minutes!!

I voted for Smeltz, I thought he was dangerous with every touch of the ball, he has really impressed me. Interesting isn't it that he didn't 'make it' over in the UK.  Daniel was busy all of the time and I think made a nuisance of himself with the V defense. Cleberson was very solid, he is going to do a good job for us. The little fellah was all go when he came on and that coincided with our fight-back. Old was on my sid ein the first half and I began to get nervous every time he touched the ball up to the end of the 1st half, then I thought he came right. A lot of the play came through him and he settled well. Aloisi was solid and you could see he is a natural leader bringing the boys through. I'd seen a fair bit of brownless when he was at Brisbane and his one strike today was typical of him, he can quickly latch onto the ball and score out of nothing. I don't think anyone played badly, they all contributed. As an aside though, Melbourne did look a class side and we were good enough to beat them. I think it is going to be a good entertaining season.

And Aisle 22ers, what was the chant as the Victory were entering the tunnel at full time?

(did you see me on TV? holding the Go Phoenix sign behind the couple being interviewed in the stand on Sky - who were they anyway?)

Felipe for MOTM.

I see Daniel is going to be a controversial topic in these forums.

It seems to me people perceive Daniel to be a better player than he actually is, and I think he suffers from the same delusion.  When I watched him in the pre-season against Sydney I flagged him as the first player to be sent off in Phoenix history.  His constant diving is disappointing, and it will get him bookings. He also seems a bit niggly and prone to swiping back at players as the game wears on.

I hope he pulls himself together and proves me wrong. In the meantime, can we get someone else to take the penalties...

(Putting big stirring spoon away now).
