When I heard about the possibility of Wellington acquiring an A league franchise at the beginning of the year I, like most of you here was incredibly excited and started saving my pennies to get myself a season ticket.

I (possibly naively) decided that I would offer as much support as I could and went for the Phoenix membership rather than a silver or gold. I decided to do this because it was stated that you would get all these little goodies, have access to that funny lounge and a few other things as well. Most importantly from my perspective it would be the most I was able to contribute ($500) in order to support the club and made me feel like I could keep the club afloat if this first season turned out to be a bit of an Auckland (Obviously the Jafas didn't have YF!).

While it is nice to be up in that boring room with all the children kitted out in full official Phoenix regalia and parents of the said kids watching the TV screens instead of the game not 100 meters in front of them I have to admit I feel that I received no extra benefits of being a "Phoenix" member rather than a silver or gold.

Firstly, my season ticket which I managed to save up and pay for in June did not actually arrive until the 3rd home game against Adelaide at the end of September. This was mainly dicketeks fault but still extremely frustrating not having a ticket well over 3 months after paying for it. I also didn't receive any of the other "goodies" my Phoenix membership promised.

I would have got a lot angrier about it, but after that first game against Melbourne it just didn't seem to matter anymore. As long as I got through that gate and was able to watch our team play I was happy.

Later, more for sentimental reasons I asked if I could have an inaugural pin which I was duly sent.

However ticket renewal season is fast approaching and I am now contemplating my options. The club seems to be sound and has a firm base here in Wellington therefore I am wondering what my contribution should be. Gold, Silver or once again; Phoenix.

As a PS, Nix management did note my lack of Phoenix benefits late in October and compensated me by giving me 2 extra Phoenix lounge passes for each remaining home game. While I did not and still do not use the nix lounge it does show that the management do care about the fans. I don't want to seem like a whinger

Interesting point of view, especially watching the game on Telly - you could do that at home. My suggestion is come down to the Silver end and get a season ticket in aisles 20, 21,22, or 23 or even 24. Where most fans and atmosphere are.

Ticketec have a hell of a lot to answer for. Not advising purchasers that aisles 21 & 22 are mainly standing, singing and drining areas for starters. late arrival of season tickets.

It is geat that the clubs itself do take an interest in what goes on and what fans think. Tony P. visiting this very site is a master stroke of keeping in touch with what's going on amongst the fans.

You paid good money which the club appreciates, whether you enjoy the view from way up there or prefer to mix it amongst the noise is your choice. But once bitten by the "Zone" you'll never wanna go back upstairs.

I've been on the halfway line all season. Great view, but I'm moving to the Fever Zone next season. I'm one of the few who tries to chant in our area but often feel like people just want me to shut up. Fever Zone is only a silver season pass too, so cheaper.

I know how you feel when you try and get an audience to join in. A throw back from egg ball days I guess when the only chant they ever knew was "black, black, black"

pre-season it was all a bit of a gamble about membership - one game at a time, season ticket - if so, what type - but definitely went along with the thought that if someone had gone to the effort to get professional football in Wellington it was worth reciprocating by getting a season ticket. The YF forum promoted the YF zone so that's where my dollars went .... and not regretted.

Would love some type of out-of-town membership....arrange some type of discount when buying tickets, perhaps some very small, possible discount with Qantas or Air NZ, etc etc.

Get a silver pass and hang out with us in the Fever Zone

coolian - Awesome idea! Maybe something involving closer town for buses or trains such as Palmy or Napier, maybe a deal for Picton too courtesy of the Interislander?

I dont mean to bring the Hurricanes into this but they have alot of different season memberships which maybe the Phoenix could look into.

I'm in aisle 24 - close enough to to fever zone - but far enough away to miss the beer throwing!

The people around us have slowly got into the atmosphere. Those who used to sit quietly, are now giving it full noise (singing, abuse, banter, hand signals)

So - for a good atmosphere at a low cost - get into 23 24 or 25 -  with the added benefit of slowly spreading the fever - soon enough those with gold tickets will be into it too.

Also, with a bit of luck and marketing, we could crack 5,000 members for next season

What I'd love to see is maybe a combined Phoenix/Team Welly season pass, so as to encourage people to come along to Newtown Park. I wouldn't be surprised if a large number of people at Lions matches only go because they essentially get free entry thanks to whats essentially just a Hurricanes season pass. Another idea could be season passes for out-of-Wellington NZFC teams comprising of a season pass to their team as well as transport and tickets to a Phoenix match, could help spread the fever over the nation?

Team Welly could be curtain raiser to Phoenix games

Perhaps even try and get some of the backpackers in the CBD involved - while an out of town membership and/or discounts or whatever wouldn't be the thing that tips me over the edge to travel down from Auckland more often, it would certainly help, and be nice too.

I think you're being a tad unfair there. Don't forget they also all go 'heeeavve' on the rare occasions one of those big piles of bodies actually moves forward.

NZ rugby fans are about as reactionary as Brazilian/English/Italian football fans...

But about a 1,000,000 times duller.

And why do those people who ring Radio Sport to complain about rugby always have high-pitched, squeaky voices?

I know one thing that puts some potential members off is the knowledge that they will not be able to get to ALL the games in the season.

I'm sure there's other clubs that do this, but Argyle offer part-season tickets. So for example, you buy a part-season ticket in advance for 5 games. You then get to chose which games you go to in advance. Seems to be pretty popular, plus the club pockets the money in advance of the season. The ticket is discounted, but not at the rate of the season ticket.

Maybe the Nix could do something similar.......??

My season ticket will definitely get renewed though, only this time it'll be in Aisle 22!!

it's not like the English league season though when you have about 23 home games...the point of a season ticket is committing to going to every game, and receiving a discount for it. If you want to pick and choose then understandably you don't get the discountjames dean2007-12-29 13:29:59

Depends on which season you order for. Knowing Ticketek, you could order your 2010 season pass next month and it'd still be late.

I went up to the lounge for a couple of games and it is deadly boring. Much better out in the crowd on the other side of the ground. Perhaps they should make the fever zone closer to half way next year.

I like the Fever Zone where it is - right next to the players tunnel, cheap seats and still with great sight lines, and the proximity to the field corner makes it feel closer to the field than the prawn sandwich zone.

Yeah I have probably spent a grand total of 30 minutes up in the Phoenix lounge. Only use it to buy beer and take a piss. My allocated seat is actually in Isle 20 which is close enough for the atmos (and pathetically contribute to the atmos) with the added bonus of extra leg room and no danger of having a television camera pointed in my direction! I think I will stay there but elect to go with silver.

Were you only meant to get this and the other goodies with the most expensive membership? Just wondering because I've never received ANYTHING in the mail (I picked up my ticket).

Silver membership comes with the pin, two bumper stickers, two wrist bands, the pass and the pass holder, an a letter of thanks. If you got none of these, hit up Ticketek and demand you get them.
