Ricki's Nix coaching record - 145 games, 53 wins, 33 draws 59 losses.
If the aim is to make the top 6 each season, yeah he will do the job. I know ambition is a dirty word, but surely we should at least try for better?
There is no guarantee that changing coach would turn us into title contenders, it could just as easily backfire and put us back fighting to avoid the wooden spoon. But keeping Ricki for a few more seasons just feels like we are willing to accept mediocrity because it is safer.
I don't think the new owners are prepared to accept mediocrity. Something's gotta give, and I suspect it will be Ricki's job as head coach, probably at the end of this season.

Reading between the lines Welnix have flagged they want the club to be more than a mid table finishing club. So either Ricki delivers a grand final finish this year or he's on his way out. However it turns out I suspect Ricki will still have a major influence in years to come.
I doubt we will get any of the A-List experianced A-League coaches(Merrick, Bleiberg, Culina etc ) because A, they are outside our budget and B, I doubt they would want to work with Herbert looking over their shoulder as Football director.
Which brings us back to an Emblen type assistant under Ricki next year groomed to take over as head coach the following year. Its the cheapest option and fits within Welnix's do it locally plan. Can't say I'm hugely excited about the idea....seems like more years of "being in transition"
One guy who might be worth a look is Trani. Loads of A-League experiance(and ACL) knows the club well and was quite highly regarded when he was here. He would be a bit of a gamble but it could pay off.
