Don't get me wrong, NZF may be working hard behind the scenes to sort something out but it doesnt come across that way..

NZF as a body have extremely limited resources. They are already helping the funding of our youth academy; it's not like they've done nothing.

There is only so much they can do when they get fudge-all support from Sport New Zealand..

Here's something NZF can do to help the Nix survive: don't pick any Nix players for the Oman friendly.

Getting a big croud in for the Adelaide game is a must obviously, but if we get tonked because we're missing a bunch of first choice players it's not going to help generate any ongoing support from the greater Wellington public and our crouds will just slip back down again. I know Gallop has said our on-field performance basically doesn't matter to the FFA but it does matter in terms of public support and getting crouds and memberships up.

What's going to benefit NZF more in the long run - a good performance against Oman in a friendly, or the survival of the Nix?

Let Hudson pick Kosta, Smeltz, half of Onehunga Sport's U16 development side, and some European based players and play with that squad. Leave the Nix lads here to help save the club.

Yep.  Both clubs' (Lions, Phoenix) situations have little in common and the article is speculative at best, pointless at worst.

At the end of the day, the argument that Dura raised (end of pro football in NZ if we get excluded from A-League) is both correct and also unlikely to sway the FFA. It was useful to have us when the A-League started and Gallop says it is no longer the case.

I am equally hopeful that WelNix are able to work on something to make us more attractive for A-League cost-wise as this is obviously the key in the modern world of commercial pro football.

And just for a bit of contrast between A league and NBL, here is the quote from the media release of September 29 from Executive Director of the National Basketball League Larry Kestelman

.... the New Zealand broadcast deal is an indicator of the public’s confidence in the sport and its popularity.

“We are excited to announce the renewal and expansion of our strong partnership with SKY New Zealand. We are dedicated to making the NBL a professional and commercial product that delivers the best entertainment on offer to the public and I’m sure that this deal will go a long way to ensuring that the Breakers continue to attract new fans by being able to watch all of their games, at home and away, live,” he said.

“The NBL is committed to the New Zealand market and supporting the Breakers. A strong New Zealand market is a major part of the NBL’s repositioning as a premier lifestyle and entertainment sport.

“Delivering coverage of all NBL games to New Zealand sports fans is important to us and I’m very pleased that Sky New Zealand will deliver exactly that during the 2015/16 NBL season.

“We will continue to work closely with the Breakers’ management and sponsors to create opportunities for the team both in New Zealand and in Australia."

Fudge me.  I leave things alone for 12 hours and people are posting Les Murray articles?

He's as delusional and senile as Lowy.

Yes Les.  There is something wrong.  The people who watch your network aren't watching the A-League.  The people who pay to watch TV aren't watching the A-League.  How about you and your cronies put the spotlight on the league's real problems instead of the anti-Phoenix crap.

You are falling for the FFA diversion away from the real problems the game in Australia has.

Succintly put, HN. The problem is that there is no way to reply to articles / blogs on SBS website unless post and see them drowned in the seething mass of nonsense, hate and stupidity that stands for "feedback" in Australian web media.

I had a lot of respect to Les Murray and Johnny Warren in the 80s when they were both doing their bit (one as a journo the other as a player) to move football in Australia from its marginalised wogball status to what it is today, but he is largely living in the past now.

With all the crap, mad rich owners, unstable clubs etc the A-League is nonetheless a much-improved far cry from where the sport was in the eighties. I also happen to think it is the best vehicle for our own NZ football to develop, if we can only buy a ticket to be allowed to stay on board.

Hope the Nix don't do any publicity today - like a Les Murray opinion piece, it'll be lost amongst a sea of black.

Better to leave it til next week and give it heaps from Monday leading into Friday... to maximise "cut-through" as the marketing kids would say.

And while you are at it, get him to auction "the Nix scarf worn by Conrad Smith", and donate to proceeds to our charity.  If Stephen Fleming can sell Fujitsu heatpumps, surely Conrad Smith can easily sell Phoenix memorabilia.

I've heard that the NBL has to pay fox to broadcast the league so you could say that SKY is propping up the league.

Fudge me; now it counts against Welnix because they don't want to go bankrupt by bringing in some superannuated Eurotrash like the Jest did? If they really think money should be no object, then scrap the franchise system and have FFA run all the teams themselves.

Surly its time we heard from the Phoenix understand there were things they needed to take care of . We have had all sorts of people standing up and speaking out yet hardly anything from the Phoenix. From talking to a number of people its not just me who thinks its time.

Fine to have the mouth pieces of the fever standing up but it would be nice if we heard something from the guys that count Welnix. Sorry if i have missed something but havnt found anything of substance yet.

Reading between the lines and with everything going on, I doubt we will know anything until the end of the season.

The current demand for 5k membership and 15k at every home game does not add up unless you know its unrealistic. I'm hoping for four years but its playing out to be FOLD.
