Phoenix playing style..happy or not?

There has been quite a bit of end of season comment about the Nix's playing style.
It sort of all started with Diego saying the Nix don't play a possession style of game and the players have to run and run all game. Since then others, whose opinion I do rate such as Fred de Jong and Harry Ngata and Terry Maddaford have made further references.

These comments are along the lines of " physical", " not overly creative", "old fashion English style", "muscular midfield" etc etc.

I tend to agree. We do play a simple slightly old fashion style and I also feel we are being left behind in the A-League. You would have to ask yourselves....would Rojas have gone if we were playing a Brisbane Roar style of game?.

So the questions are
.....Are you happy with the Phoenix style of football?
.....Is this style capable of winning us the A-League title?

Oh dear god... at various times in the clubs existance we've played rubbish.  At other times (pre-Ange Brisbane) we've been hailed as the best 'footballing' team in the league.

Meh.

Basically we are the Stoke of the A-League. We only sign toothless hacks, try and smash the opposition to bits and anyone with an ounce of skill does not want to have anything to do with the club.

I think this is what Stoke is in the EPL?

Who knows what our style will be next season. I just know we'd better make a couple of inspirational signings or we'll be struggling.

Why? Because we lost a player that starred for 10 or so games? We were well in the playoff hunt before he burst onto the scene. Don't see that much reason for angst about our chances next season, it's more just that he'll be playing for Victory.

It's what half of the EPL is.

Three for me, and two for them.

I see us as a team with no distinct style (except maybe the fact we get in a lot of crosses) - sometimes we play it along the deck but can also lump it up to guys like Macallister all day. I think that reflects on Ricki - it's not necessarily a bad thing, it means we can adapt to most situations. It just means that we will probably never be a 'great' teamvaleo2011-02-27 18:30:15

Simply not true. We scraped in, and in that last period where he played he had a hand in almost every goal we scored!

its simple really.....we dont hold onto the ball enough and when we do we give it up easily, we dont score enough goals & conceed too many. So in answer to the question no playing style needs to change. Although in saying that when they do play at home they are exciting to watch with the crowd behind them.

I think it is true. I remember him bursting onto the scene in the match against Adelaide in Christchurch. At which point we were 5th. One place above our final position. Yes we scraped in but I think we would have still made it with or without Marco.

No he won't. He'll be playing for the Victory youth side.

I know saying that makes it easier for you but that simply isn't true..Mate will be going, Kruse will be going, Angulo will be going too - leaving Marco as the only option.
