http://www.stuff.co.nz/4032580a1823.html Article from Stuff.co.nz about Serepisos' intentions and expectatinos for first few seasons. Sounds nice but are these excpectatinos realistic?

I note though that Terry seems realistic about the financial costs ($1-2 m losses per year), which is a good sign. He's obviously not going into this with grandiose hopes for financial return. I suspect he migth actualyl be keen t invest in some decent players if he realises that the venture will loose money to begin with. . . .

What about the 20k fans to home games into the second/third season? That's a big call, and won't be realised unless there are performances on the park.

If they are getting 20k to each game, with TV rights and everything else... the Phoenix won't be losing money.

he says in the article that he's expecting to lose that only in the first year, and I think that's realistic.  I also think that it's realistic to expect 20K + fans to show up if a team is performing well.

Not sure about winning it in the 3 year period but I think we should at least be able to make the playoffs

In an eight team league, which really is still brand new, winning the whole thing isn't all that hard.  I don't see why he shouldn't have it as a goal.  Still, he didn't say that winning the championship was his aim, he just said he'd love the Phoenix to win it.

It's just paper talk, it doesn't mean a thing.  Only useful for helping me get my post count up!

I think we need to be ambitious. Why not set a goal of winning the competition?  thats what its all about!

We should be targetting - midfield finish season 1, playoffs season 2, and grand finals season 3

Being competitive and exciting from the start is key, there seems to enough enthusiasm around to ensure good crowds. I only hope we dont do a cricket world cup, and overcharge on the tickets

I agree that's what we should aim for, to win every game. But that doesn't mean it is realistic, given the time/ resources available.

Realistic aims:

Season 1 - finish bottom
Season 2 - finish bottom and not get kicked out of the league
Season 3 - finish 2nd bottom

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

LOL. I wonder how long the Association will let the team struggle for this time. . .

"the Association ", what, you mean the FFA?

Football FEDERATION Australia

If you don't mean the FFA, who do you mean?

Other comments about the article. I didn't know that your owner also owned a Basketball team. How rich is he?

In terms of winning the league, does he mean being champions or premiers? I think the former is possible, if very unlikely, but not the latter. Its good that he is aiming for 10000-20000 crowds. I hope he realises what he will have to do to achieve that- good results, lots of advertising, get at least some positive media coverage. Sydney really hasn't done the second one well at all.

Yes, sorry I should have referred to them as "the fatties"

agree that the key is to get publicity to get the crowds in for the early games and then it's up to the team's reputation.
How good would it be to get a DomPost frontpage spread in the days prior to the Melbourne game?
Who do we have to lobby to achieveit?

He's much the same as "the bubble" who bought Millwall out of receivership, he put money in for 2 years reaped the benifits i.e Promotion, FA Cup Final & Europe, then stripped the club of every penny he put in & left us in the deep & smelly.
