Timmy Tony Leo and Pasty all gone. Vinnie likely to be bench player. Who is the early favourite for this years scapegoat?

Contenders appear to be Moss Siggy or Brockie

If he doesn't perform (hopefully he will), possibly Krishna given his import spot status.

i think Brockie is already?  2 years ago everyone was talking about how bad he was because all he did was score goals. now he does all the other work but he inst scoring enough. (or at all)  people will always find something wrong with it. think Boyd or Caira could be an outside running tho

If we swap "scapegoat" for "shite-player-that-embarrasses-us-every-time-he-plays", then by god Vinnie's shoes are gonna be hard to fill....

brockie. He can come close to golden boot and still get criticised.

Otherwise the default is goalkeeper. No communication blah blah blah

It would be quite interesting to have a retrospective season by season scapegoat* of the year review. Lia, Lochy, and even Brownie I believe would all feature.  Season before last, Siggy would have been up there.  Who else?

This year, Brockie definitely with a head start.  But Dura may have to watch himself.  Fell away last year, but has looked really good so far pre-season.  The gap between legend and scapegoat can narrow very quickly.

* Perceived by some to mean "shite-player-that-embarrasses-us-every-time-he-plays".

I know, I know, its serious!

What about "Offiside", the lino that usually does the side of the field by Aisle 12, balding guy. He gets his calls often so wrong we all start shouting "Off Side" even when they are miles onside. Last season he tried to move over by the side of Ailes 27-30 but you can run but you cant hide from bad decisions.

You have know idea what else goes on outside of isle 21 do you.

Ask the players, they hear us and show their apprectiation :)

I just find it weird that this thread exists. Aren't we supposed to support every player that pulls on a yellow and black stripey? I've never understood so called "fans" who target someone and yell abuse every time they make an error or make a stray pass. On Saturday, it was some young guy just across from me doing this to Brockie.

Yeah, but the whole "scapegoat" thing has basically just become people defending our worst players

If we don't do well this season I'll be scapegoating Welnix

Actually guys, I have high hopes for this season, I will be supporting all our players. That performance against West ham and Newcastle have given me a large amount of enthusiasm. I am pumped up for this season. If the guys continue to improve like they have, could be our year to make a BIG successful statement.

So much this. People are already hating on Brockie and the season hasn't even started. I have a huge issue with people that "support" their team by abusing the players, either at the game, or on fan forums.

i thought the isle question was because the turf isn't that bad right? I mean you can't see any isles from the aisles in the stands right?

Just a reminder that slagging off players is against the rules of the forums, but it is okay to post an informed view of why you think a player has not played well.

Nick Tansley is not a player, yet, right? So we can slag him off, right?

Re-reading this thread, a few folk need to understand the definition of scapegoat.  Oh hang on, I have it right here ....

1. : a goat upon whose head are symbolically placed the sins of the people after which he is sent into the wilderness in the biblical ceremony for Yom Kippur

2. a) one that bears the blame for others; b) one that is the object of irrational hostility.

It's not the shittest player.  Far from it.

And it's not about forum members, particularly those in the Isle of 21, arguing over who to have an irrational hostility towards (then it wouldn't be irrational).

Although I do note that Yom Kippur falls on 3/4 October this year, just as the new season starts.  Coincidence?  I don't think so.

I know, I know, its serious!

Really would never have thought that was the case in any way. Some of the rubbish that gets said about players at times on here is just crazy.Just go look at most threads about game days and there is normally someone getting it.Have to admit its something i dont get and despite the claims of some it has been allowed to go on since season one.
