This year Huawei announced Lionel Messi as a Global Brand Ambassador."

Pretty good company to be !  Thank you Huawei

almost as bad as the 3way handshake.

Actually a pretty good indication of the clout our Chairman has.

While we know John Key would be at the opening of an envelope in NZ if it gave a photo opportunity, it is a big deal in China to have "backing" from a high ranking politician.

It should also be remembered he is still the most popular PM NZ has had, and remains so by quite some margin, so despite what some are saying in here, this is not a bad thing for the club domestically, even putting aside the apparent increased deal

I've spent most of the day wondering what New Zealand would be like if it was run by the 'Nix Nine- Rob was PM, Gareth Morgan was Minister of ... and so on.... (yes, I've got no idea who the rest of them are, and I guess they probably like it that way...)

If the PM can do football, then WelNix should be able to run the country no sweat

I was actually making a recursive joke about my self by posting #irony because I'm one for going on long off topic tangents. So it was #irony x 2.

Labour which signed the free trade deal with China which gave us a large first mover advantage we've now squandered or at least lost as other countries have jumped ahead of us?

All those voters who have been bitching hard (ir not at all) about Huawei the whole time they've been sponsoring us, running events, match day promos and so on?

So back on topic, the rumor is that the Huawei deal is in the range of 2 million, which compared to the front of shirt sponsorship deal of 800k that the roar had when they were the dominant team in the comp is pretty good.

Is that the difference between loosing money and break even? Or are the nix going to invest it into the playing squad?

Even if that figure is correct, $2million doesn't necessarily mean $2million in cash.

That's why I said it was a rumor. I have no idea about how reliable this site or author is, people on another forum seem to be taking it as given though.

It seems high, but then Dome has said a few times that the previous deal was the highest in the A-League and it seems like this is higher still so might not be outside of the realms of possibility.

And if they sell them all on TradeMe they might be able to get 1.7 million cash.

Left side of the balance sheet.

So that hopefully it'll come up evens without needing personal contributions for the first time ever.
