out of interest, do you know how many Lochy has done?

3 I think?

Edit: Presumably doesn't count ones stopped by the first defender?

This must be why so many on here believe he should be retired

Passing efficiency will be very interesting. All teams are pretty close together bar the roar. I think we will be at the bottom again but pretty close this time.

Unforunately no. They only provide the top 8.

Yeah, that is unfortunate. I would have liked to have looked at per game or even per minute not just overall for these stats.

I'd imagine we're close to the bottom with passing efficiency.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Imagine how much better we could be doing if we made more passes and were more accurate.

Does a 2nd yellow count as a yellow, red or both?

Gold Coast 6176
Phoenix 5821

Who cares?

That list could just as easily be titled "Amount of completely unnecessary f**king about"

disagree there terminator, the number of completed passes is relevant. Moreso when we look at the number of attempts, if for example this number was out of 10000 attempts our complete pass % would be 58% meaning we lost the ball 42% of the time we attempted a pass. Do they give the number of attempted passes 2ndbest???

So by dividing the number of completed passes by the efficiency I got the number of attempted passes:

Attempted passes:
Roar  14821
Jets  10025
Mariners  9750
Sydney  9676
Adelaide  9420
Glory  8815
Victory  8763
Heart  8201
Gold Coast  8031
Phoenix  7803

And then I thought "wow, if we are in 4th with the least amount of passes at the lowest rate of efficiency then our passing must be very effective" so I divided the number of completed passes into the number of goals scored:

Completed passes per goal:
Phoenix  176
Glory  190
Heart  197
Mariners  215
Jets  229
Victory  230
Gold Coast  238
Sydney  239
Roar  283
Adelaide  305

So there you have it. We are the most effective team in the league at turning passes in to goals. No f**king around, just boom, stick it in the net. I like that.

You can't tell that.  Nothing says the length of the pass.

It could just be we hold possession and run at the man so often we need less passes... or when we're on attack we don't need to knock the ball around the edge of the area 300 hundred times before coughing it up (Brisbane).

not quite how I'd read those, but that's the beauty of stats, they can be read anyway you want, personally I'm with HN on this one, it shows that we hold posession way too much, or we don't often have a lot of posession to start with, and we then thump it long and score.

Or it shows we rely on the counter-attack, or it shows we don't pass it around pointlessly at the back, or it shows we are more prepared to play attacking 50-50 balls, or it shows we don't have the off-ball movement to play a possession game... or all of the above.

I think attempted passes per goal is a better that than completed passes per goal.rjmiller2012-03-15 11:22:47

Actually, we are fourth. Goal difference also counts. So does goals scored.

True, and indeed I do. Goal difference is fairly important, but if we get enough points it might be worthless.

Wonder how often it comes into play. Cant remember for instance if a team ever won the EPL through GD? Suppose that becomes statistically more unlikely the more games played
