the above is quoted from the WP CE

So, any suggestions?

Only one I've heard so far on this forum is the Cool Brittania store (who could set up an outlet at the Stadium) - but WP  may be looking for someone with deeper pockets

Steinlager maybe. or Steiny pure. now that they arnt on the allblacks jerseys they might need some more exposure. I also think Tourism nz would be a great sponsor. having 100% pure nz on the shirts would be cool

It might appeal to someone trying to get into the Australian market (... which rules out The Warehouse and Telecom)
I wonder if Michael Hill is a football fan?

Telstraclear, Ericsson, Mojo, New World, Woolworths, Hallensteins,

it has to be something that appeals to the Oz market aswell as here....

subway?
LG (the electronic company)?
McDonalds?
Yamaha?

you can rule out any airline, car manufacturer, drinks maker or anyone in competition OR who is a sponsor of the league (Hyundai, Quantas, Telstra, Powerade, Ballentines, Zurich, Fox)

over here in NZ the Warehouse is aka  'the red shed' and I thought they bought into the 'yellow shed' in Aussie, took a pasting ( a few years' losses) and have sold up and moved out ?

I might be wrong.

Alright, on the sponsor front, I am really pleased that they havnt just jumped in and takin anything, I feel that the sponsor says alot about the club, obv if a big company like Toyota gets on board it demonstartes confidance in the team, and that they see it as a positive image, ie. them and TeamNZ. I like the ideas being thrown around about matchin colours or themes, however I also see it to be more important to get the biggest profile company on baord. How about AMI insurance (yellow, and lots of money) they have just bought jade stadium in Chch, so probably not. Insurance, Banking, Utilities, all got good balance sheets, however they mostly seem to be already involved in sport sponsors, ah well I look forward to the best.

As long as we dont go the same way as 'The Kiwis' and end up with Crisco Christmas Hampers I will be happy.

BNZ is owned by National Australia Bank but cant see them sponsoring as the team play at the Westpac Stadium

Likewise you can rule out any car manufacturer because of Hyundai and I suspect phone providers might cause a clash with Telstra. Hard News2007-08-15 12:44:08

perhaps if we told them that it's been renamed "the Ring of Fire"

(and if they still have a problem, we could always use the same approach to lure Patak's into a deal)

Please, please, please NOT the Chrisco Phoenix!!!!!! Just sounds cheap and nasty.  Its a pretty stink name for the poor Rugby league guys too!  Tony Pignata said that they are looking for a good fit with the club and where they're at, at the moment and where they want to go.  So thats a good sign I think. I like the Tourism idea for a sponsor, if the Govt can spend $45 million on a silly yacht race why not put it into the biggest participation sport in NZ for Kiwi kids - FOOTBALL! Looking forward with interest to the announcement of a sponsor.......

Nooo! Please no beaurecrats having a finger in the phoenix pie. . .. That would be a disaster. The govt should stick to rubbish sports like sailing.

Emirates are lashing it about right now, but that would conflict with Qantas as A-League sponsor.
There is quite a bit of "partnership" money out there.  My lot are shaking hands with "participants" every month.  Tens of millions is not unreasonable when you are delivering a whole community.

The idea behind the tourism idea is to promote NZ. I actually think it would be beneficial to get 100% pure NZ on a premier league shirt. it would get more promotion globally than Americas cup ever would, and it would be cheaper. Imagine if they sponsored the phoenix and a premiere league team. they come out here and play us for a pre season warm up. You would get fans traveling from all over Australasia to watch the team in person.

Wasn't there a thing 2 months a ago that Tourism NZ was ramped up it's promotion in Oz to get more aussies to come on holiday to NZ.

A-League/Football is now one of the highest rating sports on Fox in Oz, Sydney and Adelaide both used State Tourism bodies as ACL sponsors

Or we could try for the big guns like RBS, HSBC or Citibank

When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

Charlie's own the Phoenix brand of drinks and today announced they have bought an Ozzy orange processing plant. The idea is a good one. $100000.00 does not sound out of the league of a lot of New Zealand export companies.  Heiniken should take up the deal to compete with stonelonger now ther have pure to try and match the Heiniken taste.

DB must be the one to target as a NZ brewer. Yes the hold the heiniken licence for NZ but have no direct Football links in NZ and probably Ozz.
Permalink Permalink

The problem is DB dont own the licensing rights for Heineken, they cant sponsor anyone with the Heineken logo without approval from Amsterdam. They could use montieths or tui or a brand they own outright, but its the same with Lion, they couldn't put Guinness or Stella on the shirts either.

ps Steinlager pure isnt trying to compete with Heinekens taste, more its lack of a distinct taste.

Must be different then, because this is actually spent Wherehouse in a clever marketing gimmick that goes over everybody's head because they sell tat anyway and nobody cares.

Good work on the 1,000 members. We just passed 15,000, which shows how much potential A-League teams have.

Have you guys seen any pics of your away shirt yet?

I emailed Heat Pump place to promote the idea anyway
Dear Daikin
We have just had a Daikin installed in our house in Matata, Bay of Plenty. We are very happy with it.
NZ's new and only professional soccer team the Wellington Phoenix are playing in Australia's A League, which is very high profile. I was thinking that Daikin would be a great major sponsor for the Phoenix. The Phoenix rose from the ashes (of failed soccer teams the Knights and the Kingz) and heat pumps rise from the ashes of old fire places! A great marketing idea I reckon.
The Phoenix are currently looking for a major sponsor. I reckon you guys would be ideal. What do you think?
Yours sincerely
Barrie Hawkes

Perhaps a little too similar to NZKFC, although I guess there isn't much choice when you need to go white.

apart from the shape of the ball, that's the only similarity - as you've already found out
