that post makes me despair about us ever closing the gap on Aus

(maybe closing that gap wasn't likely before - but that youth league would be amazing for our best young players - i know it's all politics and bucks but i can't help but feel that - in the words of Col U fans! - 'life's just not fair' )

Valeo you misunderstood me.  I agree with you.  We have no right to be in the league, but the reason we're excluded is not financial primarily, it's to do with the FFA wanting to support the AIS.

Sloth: 3000 YF members can't even find 20 bucks for a party ticket!

Well, the AIS isn't even in it..

so, why don't we try and raise the money ourselves?

We may not all be flush enough to stump up $100 each, but with 3000 members that's an awful lot of manpower for fund raising activities.

Here's a thought out of left field...as the OFC's only professional club perhaps the OFC should stump up for it and half the squad would be reserved for the best young talent out of Vanuatu, Soloons, Fiji, Tahiti etc...i.e. the OFC basically paying the Phoenix to be their elite finishing school. The OFC players would need to push their way into the starting 11 against the locals that Ricki or the youth team coach have chosen.

And in case you are wondering, no I'm not on drugs.

Just watched the NYL announcement on The World Game, and had a little bit more info on the costs involved. Ben said that the FFA is putting about AUS$1.5 million into the league and then each club could expect extra costs of about AUS$170,000 to AUS$300,000 depending on the breadth and depth of each clubs development.

So for the Nix, the cost could be more than the AUS$300,000 talked about here. I am sure that the AUS$1.5million will take into account travel and accomodation costs.

The video can be watched here, under Aussie Focus:

If you pick the right spot to run it out of you might find you pick up some local support in Aus as well.

Canberra? Is situated nicely between Melbourne and Sydney, has the AIS institue which could be used for training facilities and as of yet there are no rumours of a Canberra based A-League side which wouldn't cause conflict of interest until there possibly could be one in the distant future, which by then we may have the $ to have it fully out of Wellington.

^^Good idea, there will be nothing for the young'ns to do in Canberra so they can just concentrate on footy 24/7, and we can stinge the AIS campus... Great idea. Although, I doubt the AIS would have a bar of it.

Terry for CEO of NZ Football I saw. The Phoenix are doing so much more for the development of the game in this country than anyone in NZF has ever done.

"ever' is a long time, but in general I agree -  Terry and Tony appear to have turned our game around, bigest potential growth period since  Adshead/Fallon/Sumner/Rufer/Almond/Turner/Buzzer Mackay  etc

lets hope the administrators and government wake up and smell the coffee this time !!

I guess the question is do we want to organise an emailing campaign to give them a bit of assisstance to remember as per Bullys post in the other thread:

Well, if you want the NZ Govt to do something why don't you ask them and put your argument to them in a positive manner.

Have to say i love the tenacity of your team's board/management, they don't take crap from anyone and already look to have done the best recruiting in the off season.  Knights folding and Phoenix getting in was the best thing to happen to the A-league so far.

If it's going to be based in Australia the youth team should be based around the Sydney area.  It's closest to the most teams and it'd be funny to see a 'nux youngsters home game be better attended than SFC seniors.

MartinB and Bullion, I agree

perhaps tomorrow (in the sober light of day) we should all sip as coffee (or morning beverage of choice0 and email the NZ Olympic commmittee, the various parties Sports spokespersons, and the media to promote

a) the Oly-Whites trip to Beijing
b) more funding government funding for football
c) more coverage of football

surely more important than mowing the lawn, cutting your toe nails, doing last night's dishes or cleaning the car

here's the email I sent to the NZOC

feel free to amend it and fire it in!!

Dear Sir/Madam,

If the Oly-Whites draw or beat the Cook Islands, they will qualify as Oceania Football's representatives to the Beijing Olympics - will your organisation support them in raising the profile of this sport - played by more New Zealand children than any other, and in raising the profile of New Zealand sports people world-wide via the world's most popular sport?

A response to my inquiry would be gratefully received.

Thanks, etc, etc

Now, now loki... save it for SFCU

Heh, can't wait to lurk on there late next season when they work out that their 'super signings' have basically filled places they have covered whilst leaving a huge horrible hole between defense and the strikers that Corica is going to have to try to single handedly fill again.

Then again they should be used to watching that kind of junk (I know i'm used to watching Merrick leave quality attackers sit on the bench for us whilst three DM's toil about).

The little 'nix will be based there if it gets up though, unless they go a little bit further down on the south coast, nowhere else makes sense.
