Theres always plenty of new ones flying about, people seem to have the terracing knowledge of a politician though. Whenever there is any new ones getting floated about they get drowned out by the 151st version of "Oh Wellington...".
I'll put myself on the line as well and say I'm pretty sick of "Who are ya" - too simple and boring

I'm assuming you weren't even there ?

Come back when you're not 'on tour' in the South Island.

Just from what sources have told me.  I heard El**ch wasnt there either so was going to save myself for the games which matter. Never going 'on tour'to the South Island again,Sydney is much better...

Buch of tweenies behind me thinking it was funny calling Gao - Wing Wong. Felt like slapping them.

Loved the 50yd cross field passes to the wings, very Beckhamesque.

Not quite as panicked in defence as last season, but a bit profligate in front of goal, not effectively finishing the opportunities we were making for ourselves.

Songs to be retired

We're not Auckland anymore - We know that, and get on with supporting who we are an not who we aren't.

I think we need a plan of action, have a new song contest with a poll for the top four new songs to be held the week before the game. Then pre-match on the Queensland game chuck a few flyers round the BB with the new songs on them and have a singsong to get the songs out there in preparation for giving it laldy at the game.

Good to see you were there as I didn't see you and was thinking where is that lad?

The YF was bad, I never saw half of the regulars as I normally do at the BB and the chants where below standard compared to the usual games. Thank god we had Don,(with his lungs of steel), to start chants off. Also that weird Burnley supporting bloke  Turfwashizname

Has the YF become the equivalent of a bunch of Amy Whitehouse Crack Wh*res, (got popular, have some talent -but just blew it) ?Or are we a proper friggin bunch of supporters or what?

Pleased with the result

Not pleseed with the support

FFS people.

We won, kept a clean sheet and could have won by truckloads.  Could we spend a few hours enjoying the positives.

The whole zone is going to be completely different this season, be interesting to see what two aisles does to continuity and originality.  Hopefully a bigger core in the next aisle over will mean the five or six new chants we tried last night will catch on a bit more.

The Snake (Conrad) knows where its at......I know he would love the kind of support we give the Nix.

Ye I thought the game was pretty good, I thought the mariners were pretty poor.
Leo and Gao the standouts for me ran there ass off and showd great pace at times.
Dodd in defensive midfield?? I dont think he should be there at all, cant distribute to save himself. Its like putting John Terry in midfield, Id prefer a mekele who has both defensive assets and can distribute.
Smeltz played well I still believe hel score quite a few this year, however should have scored at least one yesterday but give it time its preseason so all good.
As for Daniel, looked good at times but does too many back heel bulsht balls, when he does the simple stuff thats when he is most effective.
Durante class at reading the game!
Great team and will be even better when Kwasnik is at ful fitness which I would like to see him be a regular starter behind smeltz.

Are there going to be any highlights from the game? I know one or two cameras usually went down to the pre season games last year.

Enjoyed the win, great.  A few things to work on though. Certainly a good improvement on V1 of the Phoenix.
Hard news - A plea to you. My son and I sit in Aisle 24 and enjoy the charts and most cetainly join in. (Generally not much voice for Monday). If possible could chant/song sheets be given out as people come in through the gates. We would like to join in more often but at times it is difficult as it can be hard to hear what the YZ are chanting/singing.

Looking forward to a great season.

Did anyone else think Dodd was completely lost in Midfield? His distribution was poor, but the Dompost seem to think he had an impressive performance...

As an attacking mid-field  player he was struggling but in defence he was tops, broke up so many attacks -  but it is almost like playing 5 at the back with him in this role

Ferrante is there alongside him for distribution

Dodd did his job brilliantly, and he still passed the ball or laid it off adequately (sp...). Hes the 'hard man' in defensive mid...roy keane anyone?

Its a part of the game and a position many apparently dont appreciate...there to do the hard yards while the magic 3 roam around up front wherever they please

isn't it wonderful that we all watched the same game yet no-one seems to agree on whether dodd was quality or not?
im in the nae camp, agree with chopper harris, its a bit like having 5 defenders in the team. better to have that though than leak like we did last year

while i kinda agree he's not a natural DM, it's much better to have in the team than not, i think, and he can't really start as a CB now, so i reckon just enjoy watching the opposition attackers flee in terror.

thought Dodd did ok, not the best position for him - attacking midfield. I reckon he's better suited in a defensive position.

???

He was in defensive midfield.

Like I said earlier, I can understand why Ricky is putting him there, but I'm not sure if it's gonna work for us long term.
But I'm happy to be proven wrong on this.el grapadura2008-07-21 17:07:23

Yes eejit
Very disappointed ,last night it seemed like you had swallowed  a kazoo  ,i know it was your first run out this season ,but dare i suggest that theres been very little pre-season training done ,i think that the forum might consider giving you a free transfer to another club should there not be a substantial improvement  on the bellowing front  and a return to the  bedlam causing cacophony of last season!!
My ears will never be the same again!!

Whilst we all have a views on formations, players, signings etc what I am very excited about is we have real options right across the park and serious competition for starting spots. I think it is only going to get harder to pick the starting 11 for Aug 17 once Kwasnik, Brown, Johnson and Mulligan have had an opportunity to strut their stuff.

I can't wait to see what the bookies have done to our odds after the weekends result.

I'm glad I borrowed from the kids inheritence and backed the Nix last weekend while the odds were still so good.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Yep, I'm with you. I was quite surprise to see him still in the squad to be honest. He was easily the worst in the leaky backline last season, and I would have thought the new defensive replacements would have seen him back playing in the local leagues where he should be. But hey, Ricky knows what he's doing, so I guess he sees something in him that we don't.

But... he does have to get a feckin haircut and lose that band around his melon... who does he think he is, Fernando Torres???

Good win Phoenix  and I'm waiting for my season ticket and those of the other 6 new season ticket holders I'm bringing with me.

Clebo, Old, O'dor, Christie (at times)... To be fair I thought that he was one of the most solid in d last year (besides Lochy).

I'm probably not a massive fan of him playing defensive mid- but think he was solid enough- just some average distribution. See how he goes in the season though. But definitely disagree with him being the weak link last year.bigtobz2008-07-21 20:18:31

Don't let Frankie Mac see that. . ..

Best thing to do is keep an eye on the Chants room in these forums. New stuff is always being written (although 9/10 of it is never used).

There's usually a few standard songs that are reapeated often enough, in the absence of knowing the words, just "na na na" the tune. !

Maybe the wind conditions made it a bit tricky to pick up other groups' chants.  I like the sound of 'hooked on Ferrante', but never heard it from where we were (RHS near aisle 22 entry stairwell).

Only pre-season lads, bit with a bit of spontaneous training in the BB before the next one, I'm sure it will come right.

Very encouraging performance on the pitch right around the park - we actually WERE playing all the football.  Now with Mulligan coming on board, a striking partner/backup for Smetlz is the obvious gap (ideal Marque fodder, I would have thought!).

Now, must check out how to open an account with TAB Aussie Sportsbet.  Still $4.75 for top 4!

I know, I know, its serious!
